  1. TriWing states that they use a Ford 7.5" rear end.
  2. What rearends are a good choice to build a trike with out of a 1st gen? What gear ratio? What are the pros and cons to a trike as apposed to a hack?
  3. Bubba of the Hell's Beerguts MC!? I think I'll just stick with the nickname I've had for the past 35 years... Bummer. There was already a "Bummer" on here when I registered so I went with "A1Bummer".
  4. Just some quick calculations. 34mm bore = 907.92 mm squared 35mm bore = 962.11 mm squared A 54.19 mm squared difference That makes the VMax carbs about 5.97% larger. (That is if I did my calculations correctly)
  5. I wasn't planning on it. I ran into a guy at Farm & Fleet a couple weeks ago who spotted my VR and waited for me to come into the store to chat with me. He asked about the second gear issue, and asked if I wanted a job to do over the winter. I don't remember how we got on the subject, but he mentioned that when he got his bike it had VMax carbs on it. I said I thought they were the same. But all because I "thought" so, doesn't make it so. So it peaked my interest a bit. If I run into some VMax carbs cheap, I suppose I'll have to try it now. I'd be more interested in putting EFI onto it. I've seen the complete kits, but they're way to spendy for my taste.
  6. Thanx guyz. I figured it was as simple as that.
  7. Is there a difference between the VMax carbs and the Venture carbs? Are the VMax carbs larger? I know the diff between the intakes, just curious about the carbs.

    Tires

Wish I had seen this before I had the ME880 Marathon's put on my bike. Does anybody know why this happens? I'll keep ya posted if I have any problems. Also, have any of these "bad" tires been replaced under warranty? Thanx, Bill
  9. I had a problem the shimmy shimmy shake shake in the front. I repacked the steering head that was quite dry. Still had problems. Noticed the tire wasn't worn evenly. I had to look real closely to find it. I assume the dry steering head caused the uneven wear. I put a new tire on last week and now it ride perfectly.
  10. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  11. I hate iPods. They have a lot of issues when used with a PC. But if memory serves me right, you can set iTunes not to sync when you plug the iPod into your computer. Then I believe you can copy the tunes on the iPod into iTunes.
  12. Pretty soon the government will be making us all wear diapers and such and locking us in our rooms to "keep us safe". Here in good old WI. a lot of stores and hobby shops won't give model rocket engines or paint and glue to anybody under the age of 21. If I way under 21, I'm sure it would really pi** me off. Even not being that young, it still really irritates the hell out of me. No wonder so many "kids" are still in their parents homes till they're in their 30's and 40's.
  13. Wrong link... ARGH!!! This is the right one. http://www.popsci.com/diy/article/2008-05/car-crushing-motorcycle Sometimes I kill myself. Sometimes I wonder how I get out of bed in the morning without falling flat on me face.
  14. Ya! this is the kind of stuff I'm looking for. Thanx guyz. Keep it coming.
  15. Maybe the cagers would see ya on this one. Give them a taste of their own medicine! http://www.zapworld.com/electric-vehicles/electric-scooters/zappy-3-ez
  16. That setup looks pretty nice. Not quite what I had in mind though. What I'm trying to find is how a sidecar attaches to the 1st gen. Then I can go from there. If I star at it long enough I'll figure it out sooner or later. I was just hopping that someone here might have a hack on their 1st gen and might have some pics of how it hooks up to it. Not sure what kind of scooter I'll end up with yet. Nothing extravagant. Something small and portable. I was thinking something on the order of these, http://valuemobility.com/solarr.htm or http://www.zapworld.com/electric-vehicles/electric-scooters/zappy-3-ez Not sure what I'll be able to get away with. My doc still has me at a temporary disabled status for some reason. Even though it's been about 2.5 years since I got my knees wrecked at work. I reached maximum medical improvement in October of 06. Workman's comp quit helping me with anything since then. Now it's up to my lawyer to get what I need. Sucks that I can't even sue the insurance company for my lawyers fees. Things just keep getting worse. Today I had to go to the emergency room due to the pain. I guess that's what I get for yesterdays activities. It's really bad when I get passed up by the blue haired old ladies at the grocery stores.
  17. That has crossed my mind. I already have a small trailer that gets stuck behind me quite a bit. But if I did that... where would I put my beer cooler and all the camping gear? Lol. That was my plan in the mean time till I got the hack set up. And ya, it would make things a bit easier on the knees if I had the sidecar. I dunno for sure what I'm gonna do yet. Just running through some ideas. Keep the suggestions coming.
  18. Hi there. One of the other members told me you might be able to help me out. I'm trying to build a sidecar for my 84VR that will haul an electric scooter or similar. He mentioned that your husband built one for you. I know I can build it just fine, but I'm not real sure how I would mount it to my bike. Would you happen to have any pics or anything to see where to hook things up?

    Thanx, Bill

  19. Thanx for the info. I'll see what I can find.
  20. Anybody in here with first gens with sidecars? My knees have gotten so bad it's getting real hard and painful to get around. I want to build a sidecar for my scoot to carry one of those electric power chairs on. I was hopping that I could see some pics of how they are mounted to a first gen. I think I've got the rest of it figured out. I just don't know how to mount it to the bike correctly. I was also a bit curious about haw far back to place the sidecar wheel. Would I put it inline with the rear wheel or closer to the front? If so, how much forward of the rear wheel? Thanx for any help in advance, Bill
  21. If anybody is interested... there is a poker run the local vets are running on the 23rd. of August in Cadott, WI. We are all meeting at J & J's in Cadott at noon. From what I've been told, it will be about 91 miles or so with raffles and such at the end of the ride which ends back at J & J's. If anybody is interested, please come join us. Thanx, Bill
  22. I kept seeing Bigfoot a lot. That is till I was told it was my brothers ex-mother inlaw!
  23. I make a point to stop at all the brat stands. Those kids better be careful though. The IRS might come shake them down for their cut. Gotta love'em. When I was in Jr. High, my school got ticked at me and a couple friends who got together and sold Little Debbies, candy and pop out of our lockers. Something to do with students not eating lunches anymore, or something like that.
  24. I put an I.C.E. in both my cell and my laptop phonebook. I suppose it would be a good idea to put one in with my registration on my bike.
  25. It's interesting what kind of things we can learn from those kind of folks. I can only imagine what I can do with some of that stuff. You could hook the steam engine to a generator for when the power goes out. It would also make a heck of a boiler system to heat the shop and house. I wonder if you mounted that missile to our skoots, the cagers would notice us better.
