Speedometer greasing
a1bummer replied to a1bummer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yup. I'll take a picture when I get a chance. -
The other day my speedo quit working while I was in Marshfield. I just figured it had froze up and snapped my cable again. But I thought it was kind of strange for that to happen when it wasn't making any noise before it quit. After I got home I started tearing the things apart to get at the speedo. when I got the cable off the speedo I noticed there was nothing inside. When I looked at the other end, it had come loose and fell off and the center slid out somewhere along the road. D'OH!

Anybody ever try putting a grease-zerk on the speedometers of our 83-85 ventures? I was able to put a small one on the other day. I used a 1/4" bit in the drill-press and went very slowly as to not drill into the shaft. I used a dremel to finish it off. If your careful, you won't mar the shaft. I tapped it and was able to screw the zerk in fine. When I pumped grease into the speedo it came out both ends of the shaft. I worked quite well. But after the speedo/tach assembly was all back together and reinstalled in the bike, the zerk is at a wierd angle that migh make id tough to get the greese gun onto it. Considering how often I might need to grease it, I don't think it will be to much of a problem.

I finally got around to resoldering those pins like you suggested the other day. Still does the same thing. Next time I have some of the bodywork off, I'll have to check the wires between the dash and the wires going to the transmission. Any other suggestions? -
I would've done the same thing. And have far to many times. Is it getting hard to find good customer service these days. Or is it just me? These days it's though to find someone behind the counter at a parts store who knows what their doing. Or at Menard's, Walmart, etc.. I can't find most of the things I need around town anymore. It seem like all these big superstores put a lot of places out of business and won't offer the same goods or services.

And it was a bit chilly at 35* out. I brought the battery up out of the basement and put it back in. Put the new HC plate on so I can quite getting so much harrassment from the campus security. Boy I'm glad I finally found a Dr. who actually READS my medical files. Anyway, after I got the battery in and the plate on, I just couldn't help myself. I shot a little gas down each carb and hit the start button, and it fired right up. Then it died. Started again, and died. Did this a few times till I got the choke just right and it stayed running till it warmed up good. I took it out the highway and back through town down main street. I got a lot of weird looks from some cagers for some reason. It was a chilly short ride, but it was a good feeling. It's supposed to be somewhere around 50* the middle of next week. I can't wait!

Sweet! I know I've been on a lot of them over the years. I'll have the check my map and see how many more I can find. This will give me some good excuses to go for a ride.

That's odd. If I copy and paste the link into my address bar it works, but if I just click the link it doesn't. http://www.newser.com/story/52071/mom-nabbed-for-breastfeeding-while-driving.html http://www.newser.com/story/52071/mom-nabbed-for-breastfeeding-while-driving.html Seems to be working properly this time.

Mom Nabbed for Breastfeeding While Driving http://www.newser.com/story/52071/mom-nabbed-for-breastfeeding-while-driving.html It never ceases to amaze me at just how stupid the human race can be sometimes. This is a classic example of why "Big Brother" thinks he has to make so many ridiculous laws to protect us from ourselves. A few people out of how many millions does something stupid, and now we ALL will have to suffer the consequences.

I just love it when something like that happens and I lay on the horn and then they give me the finger. One day I was making a right turn into the right lane when a guy making a left turn wanted to turn into my lane instead of the left lane he was supposed to turn into. I quickly pulled off the road to give him the "right of way". When I got along side his drivers side I pointed out that he had made an illegal turn. He yelled f**k you and flipped me the bird. I love these people who try killing ME and I'M the a**hole.

Building a 83 trailer hitch.
a1bummer replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey! This is the receiver hitch I built for my 84 about 1.5 years ago. Then I found a chrome one to replace it with. Even though I thought it might be a bit wimpy as far as side to side movement is concerned, it actually worked great. I didn't get any sway from my trailer at all. There's even a bracket to mount a mudflap. If your interested in it, I willing to part with it. Have any goodies you might want to trade? Left side mirror? Valve covers? A rubber band for holding the side covers on? Misc.? I added a picture of the bike with the hitch and a trailer attached just to give an idea. Of course it sat much lower with 2-up and the trailer tongue was about even with the rear axle. Thanks, Bill -

LOL, I remember doing that as a kid. I guess I'll have to remember that in a pinch.

Where are you planning to travel this summer?
a1bummer replied to Yama Mama's topic in Watering Hole
Planning on taking the ferry to Madeline Island over the 4th of July weekend. My brother and his girlfriend are coming along on his 85 Goldwing. -
What ya guys using to keep your feet dry? I've tried several methods but none seem to work for long. Now I just keep my rubbers or knee boots in the bike.

Sounds like something that I've done. LOL:rotfl:
