  1. Is there any difference between the carbs from an 83 and an 84? I've been wanting to rebuild my carbs on my 84 to try and get my mileage back into the high 30's and low 40's. Right now it's in the low to mid 30's. I have a set of carbs from an 83 that I started pulling apart the other day. They were pretty nasty looking inside the bowls. The floats looked pretty good and the diaphrams have holes in them. I'm gonna weight the floats in a few minutes to see how close they are to each other. I have a scale that goes 3 or 4 decimal places that should work good.
  2. KILL JOY!!!
  3. http://www.roadstercycle.com/yamaha_vmax_fuel_injector_cv_car.htm Cheaper than the WIldbros conversion. http://www.wildbros.com/EFI.html I wonder if you could use this carb to throttle body conversion in junction with the Wildbros FMM electronics.
  4. Hey look at this! http://www.roadstercycle.com/yamaha_vmax_fuel_injector_cv_car.htm
  5. However the case may be... Blondes still have more fun!
  6. I LOVE camping. I don't get to do it nearly enough anymore. I spent a good share of my childhood in the woods. When I moved away from home I spent two entire summers living in my tent just outside Turtle Lake, WI. That area is now a boyscout camp. Last fall we went up to Madeline Island for the weekend. This year we plan on going back over this 4th of July weekend.
  7. I used to a lot. At least you might call it that anyway. When I was a kid we would pack up the little red wagon and go out to the woods. I still have the same old fire ring, (an old steel tractor wheel), I used 30 years ago. When I got older I built a trailer for bicycle and carried a lot of stuff with me. Now I'm older and lazier. Now it's the motorcycle, a trailer, and a LOT more stuff/junk with me. If it was just me I wouldn't need, (well maybe not anyway), the trailer or big tent and all the extra junk. But i gotta keep the better half comfy. If she ain't happy... NOBODY is happy.
  8. So... what does one of them cost a guy? I like!
  9. I'm looking for a new tent to replace the one I've had since I was in my teens. Which is a 6' dome tent. It still suits me fine when I'm alone, but my better half dosen't like it very much. She's not big on camping like I am. So I got her an air mattress to make her more comfortable, but it won't fit in my dinky little dome tent. I borrowed my parents tent a few times and depended on tents others brought with them that were big enough to put the air mattress in for the past few years. But I feel like a mooch when I do that. Due to her bad back, I need a tent that is big enough to stand up in. And big enough to sleep about 6, so we have enough room to put down two mattresses if need be and/or to put all the extra gear in out of the weather if needed to. I'm looking for a dome tent that big but not to heavy and not take up a lot of room in the trailer. I was also hoping not to spend any more than $150 - $250. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Bill
  10. Ok. I thought you were talking springs in general. The clutch disks and suspension springs I mention were from car & trucks I've repaired over the years. I haven't had nearly as many bikes apart as I have cars & trucks, so I haven't seen any broken bike clutch springs yet.
  11. Sorry to say... but I've seen that many times in the clutch disks in manual transmissions and coil spring suspensions.
  12. Is there anything you DON'T have? LOL
  13. 3 piece windshield trim? Got any pics?
  14. I got my insurance through Dairyland Cycle Insurance. I just copied the information from the first page of my policy for you. That was easier than me trying to figure out what info might be useful. I wasn't expecting anything to be done about it really. I was just curious how some groups get on the list and others not. I didn't know if it might be something that needs to be done on our end or if our group didn't meet the necessary criteria. But if someone is willing to go the extra mile for me, far be it for me to look a gift horse in the mouth. Thanks again, Bill
  15. I got new insurance on my bike today. There was a 10% discount if you were a member of group or club. There were about 20-30 to choose from but no VentureRiders.org. Not even an option to write in on that wasn't in the list. Now I'm curious what makes one group better than another? Venturers.org, (for example), was in the list. They have about 5701 registered users. We have 6840 members here. Is it because we don't collect dues or have to pay fees to be members or something like that? Thanks, Bill
  16. Congrats! And thank you

    D'OH!

Didn't think of that. Good idea! Thanks.
  18. Hey! That looks cheaper yet. Thanks!

    LOL
  20. Ya, I tried that too... for a few days anyway. And ya, it's loud as he**. But it sure did sound sweet. I had a thought of somehow gutting out a pair of stock mufflers and running a straight pipe all the way through. I also wondered how a glass-pack would work. But then that might look a wee bit gaudy. That could work on the rat bike maybe.
  21. Well... when I checked the switch with the ohm meter, I clipped one lead to the engine for my ground and clipped the other lead to each wire coming from the switch one at a time. Then I changed gears till I got a completed circuit. I did this with each wire. After doing this I could tell which wire was for each gear. Before doing any of this I had the switch off and got a good idea how it worked and made sure I cleaned all the contacts and stretched the spring a bit to put more pressure on the contacts. I'll try using my test light next by connecting it to the positive battery terminal and clip it to each wire coming from the switch and see if I get different results. But I'm also assuming that if my neutral light comes on when it's in neutral that the gear indicator would also display an "N"? Now that you guys got me thinking, I could just ground each wire going up to the dash from the switch and see if the indicator changes. Well I'll let ya guys know when I figure it out. Thanks for all your input, Bill
  22. FIRST DAY OF SPRING??? It just got done snowing a few inches here. :crying:Just after all the snow piles had melted. It's supposed to be in the low 50's and sunny over the next couple days, so hopefully that will take care of it.
  23. That was the first thing I checked. I used an ohm meter to check it out and it appeared to be fine. That is if I was checking it properly anyway. I didn't look that complicated.
  24. I'm to late! I need some of those. I have a lot of extras of the larger ones, but need some of the mini's.
  25. I thought the same thing about mine. So I got rid of the stock unit and put in a CD player. Now it will get louder but the speakers aren't big enough to handle the extra power and make a lot of noise when I turn up the volume. Not the kind of noise I want to hear either. Now I need to find some 4" 45w or so, weather resistant speakers to replace them with. I'm also looking for a good way to mount a pair in back so my better half can hear the music as well. Any ideas?
