  1. Wow. I got about 7000 on the rear Avon that was on the bike when I got it. I rode it pretty aggressively. I replaced it with a Metzeler ME880 and took it much easier and got only just over 6000. I was told by the dealer that it would last much longer. I put a match on the front later. I don't like the way they feel either. Going back to Avons.
  2. I've still got the one I built for my 84 sitting here collecting dust. Pics of it are on that link up above that randya posted.
  3. Thanks for that link. I just got done buying one from there.
  4. I got everything back to where it was before I started. I'll try that schematic that was posted. it looks better than the one that came with the horn, (that didn't work).
  5. Umm... I was always told that I would go blind if I did that. But I showed them! All I ended up with is glasses.
  6. I did sink them when I changed everything else. But now that you mention it, I should redo it now that all slides are working.
  7. I ran into a bit of snow last weekend. They called for a 30% chance of light rain or a possible snow shower. I could've dealt with that like I have before. But instead it turned into a short blizzard. I was finally able to get off the highway and to a tavern where I got some odd looks when I walked in. The drinks sure tasted good after that. Then I called for a ride. Lucky my friends Butch & Jackie over at Bateman's Tavern let me park it there over night and come get it in the morning.
  8. A while back I had asked about a fuel problem I was having. I had changed the plugs, wires, and caps. I ran Seafoam through a few tanks. But I was still only getting about 33-34 mpg. Someone here had mentioned that I might have a float problem and told me how to check for the fuel vapor rising out of the carbs after I shut it off. I didn't see any vapor but I did notice that one slide was not moving at all. I pushed it open with my finger and it wouldn't close. So I pulled the diaphram and slide out so I could clean the carb where the slide moves. there was some build up of something along one side of it and it came clean fairly easy. The slide moves freely now. Now I wonder if I'll get my milage back.
  9. I installed an air horn on my VR today. Took it for a spin and I noticed the turn signals didn't work. If I turn on the hazard switch and turn it off again, then the signals work as they should. Till I turn them on again anyway. When I got back home I noticed that if I leave the hazards on and then turn on the signals the horn goes off. I'll have to undo what I did before tomorrows ride.
  10. Checked things out again today. The switch in the tranny checks out fine when tested with the test light in each gear. When I ground the wires leading up to the display the neutral light comes on but says it's in 4th. If I ground the 5th gear wire it says it's in 5th. All the rest still say it's in 4th. Any ideas what I should check next? Thanks, Bill
  11. OMG!!!
  12. WOW! And to think I was glad I didn't go down after running over a cat some years ago doing about 70mph on the old Yamaha 650 special.
  13. I for one think there is way to much censorship in this country already. Example, I pay for my cable service, but all the "naughty" words and private body parts are blurred out on just about every channel. I feel that if "I" don't want to see or hear it, I just turn the channel or walk away. But on the other hand, I AM glad that this sight isn't full of all the crap that I have seen on some other forums.
  14. I thought about posting my opinion, but that's as far as I got...
  15. I have an 83 with some cruise control buttons on the left side. Is that what your referring to?
  16. Was it a member from here that I pulled up next to in Eau Claire this afternoon? He was riding a blue 83-85.
  17. Now why didn't I think of that? Thanks man.
  18. Ya! I for one!

    WORK

Right now I would be happy as hell to get back to work. I lost my job after I wrecked my knees on the job a few years ago. Back to school to train for a different career.
  20. I saw that on TV last night. Not sure what I think yet. I think it would come in handy for some disabled people in wheel chairs.
  21. I keep mine folded up in my bag in case I need one.
  22. I'm hoping the floats are still the same? All my floats were 4.445g, 4.395g, 4.363g, and 4.287g. So I'm guessing they are all good. Not that I know how much they are supposed to weight.
  23. What ya gotta get for the backrest? Heck, I should just ride over this weekend!
