  1. even more good advice to add to my list. Thanks.
  2. LOL! I guess I can't read! That makes much more since. Thanks for pointing out my stupidity. I thought that was my better halves job to do.
  3. Not on my bike or other vehicles. I made a bracket to put my parking permits and state park sticker on and mounted it to my license plate frame. A clear lexan one for the park stickers. I will put them on on the trailer or the pop-up camper. They're both ugly anyway.
  4. I called the local, (that is if ya call 45 miles local), dealer a couple weeks ago to get some bearings and seals for the rear wheel on my 84. I stated that I needed BOTH bearings for the rear wheel. He said there was only one in the rear wheel and there was one other in the gears. Again I said I wanted both bearings for the rear wheel. and again he said there is only one in the wheel and another in the gears. Then he asked if those are the two I wanted. I just said to forget it, and I hung up. If ya look at the microfiche, you can plainly see there are two bearings in the wheel and two for the ring & pinion. I ended up finding what I needed much cheaper here, (http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1984/XVZ1200DL%20VENTURE%20ROYALE/parts.html). When I first got my scoot, I called these guys looking for a stop switch. I was told they have been discontinued and couldn't get one any more. I called another dealer which was twice as far away and was told they are still available and they got me one right away.
  5. I would have to disagree. IMHO, a 20-30% increase would be plenty for me to go through the trouble. Every little bit helps. Now I have to wonder if the solid drilled rotors on the MKII would be more or less prone to warpage. I'll have to keep my eye open for the parts to make the upgrade on my 84. Maybe when i find them, I'll have the money to fork over for them at the same time. Going to school in order to get myself back to work, dosen't leave much mad money.
  6. I've taken the vanes out of the frames and put super glue in the holes that they snap into to make them fit a bit tighter. I've also thought about trying tiny o-rings aroung the tabs on the ens of the vanes where they snap into the frames.
  7. Really? Do the rear calipers also have 4 pistons then? I assume we have to change the forks due to a bolt pattern difference? Aren't the rotors on the MKII smaller? The reason I ask is because a couple years ago I aquired chrome rotor & caliper covers. If I remember right, the rotor cover wouldn't fit because they were to small and the caliper covers wouldn't fit because a different bolt pattern. Better brakes sure would come in handy when pulling the trailer. I had also thought about VMax ring & pinion for better low end power for the same reason and for if I am ever able to get a hack.
  8. Okay, so what's different about the brakes? Larger diameter rotors?
  9. I see some people swapping out the front end of their MKI for the MKII front to get the newer anti-dive system. Other than the MKII being electronically controlled, what makes the MKII better than the MKI?
  10. I'd call it a trike. But at that price, I sure wouldn't be calling one mine. I would maybe define a "motorcycle" as having 2 or 3 wheels, and is open to the wind. I've seen a lot of so-called trikes that look like they simply replaced the front with a motorcycle triple tree.
  11. That's what I thought. I'll go looking for one today. Seeing as how I got rid of the factory stereo and installed a CD stereo, I can use the scan button to activate the relay. I left the buttons on the handle bars thinking they would come in handy sooner or later.
  12. Well after three years of troubles with both knees, I finally got to see the doctor I saw when all the problems started. He had an MRI done on the right knee and found a torn meniscus. He did surgery shortly after that. It felt good till things went south after a few weeks. It never got better. In the mean time my left knee started killing me again too. Another doctor, (thanks to workman's comp), had an MRI done on that one and said there was a degenerating meniscus, and there was nothing he could do about it. Now after all this time I was ale to see the original doctor. He looked at the MRI done by the other doctor and said it looks there was a tear in the meniscus all along. He ordered a rescan on both knees. In a way, I'll be pi$$ed if I find out that the left knee was torn all along, but then I'll be glad if it can be fixed. After the last three years, and this summer, I'll have about enough of the doctors! I had a mammogram, (or is that a maogram), a few weeks ago. Luckily no cancer. Just a very tender, large, lump in my right breast. Tomorrow I get another MRI. This time on both knees. Who knows what that will lead to. More arguing with workman's comp I'm sure. Then on the 22nd I get to have surgery on my sinuses. Maybe after 38 years, I can finally breath through my nose and smell like a normal person.
  13. On a warm day after slow riding and stoplights in city driving, after I shut my bike off, I can hear it gurgling and sometimes it spits a little coolant out the vent tube leading from the puke tank. I've checked both the radiator and the puke tank. Both are staying full. I'll change out the coolant for some of that fancy stuff and see how she acts then.
  14. Thanks guys. I did find some pics of both. And they looked like they would bolt up. I did see that the exhaust might be a problem though. You guys have any pics of the way the exhaust was mounted?
  15. Great ideas! I'll have to look into that myself. Perhaps a lighted momentary switch hooked to a timer? Kind of like the rear defrost of a car? Hit he switch, light comes on, defrost comes on, after a period, both the light and the defrost go off. Now I wonder what tells the defrost to shut off. I could steel the timer out of my pizza oven! NOT! But similar maybe?
  16. Has anybody tried this fan upgrade? If so, how did it work for you? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-XVZ1200-XVZ1300-Fan-Switch-UPGRADEdfygt_W0QQitemZ250327262606QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3a48aae58e&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A12|39%3A1|72%3A1171|240%3A1318
  17. What is it that is different between the rear footrests on a MKI & MKII? I think I read somewhere on here that the MKII footrests will not fit on the MKI. Is there a difference in the bolt pattern? Or is there something else obvious that I'm not seeing? Thanks, Bill
  18. I ended up in court years ago for simply swatting a cat while it was tearing up one my plants. $138.00 for improper discipline! I asked the judge where they had been when my dad was beating the snot out of me and my mother all those years while growing up.
  19. I think it would be awsome if there was a revolution and everybody who uses Microsoft went to Linux!
  20. After reading this post, (Does this mean we've made the big-time?) I thought about all the discounts and stuff that some companies and such give if your in a club or organization. I've seen the list of companies that do give us a discount and I appreciate that they do that for us. There has been a couple time where I was asked if I was a member of a group and I said yes. But Venturerider was not on their list. We have more members that a lot of the groups on the lists. Just wondering what they have done to get themselves on those lists. Is there anything I can do to get US added to those lists? Thanks, Bill
  21. I just drilled and tapped the speedo itself and installed a zerk. I can leave the cable attached when I grease it. I put the bike on the center stand and put a 2x4 under the frame to keep the front wheel off the ground. I start pumping grease ad spin the wheel at the same time and I'm done. Thought about putting a hose with a zerk leading to it so I don't have to take any of the bodywork off to grease it.
  22. Ya! What he said. And be careful when it comes to Microsoft updates. I don't let my system do ANY automatic updates. Some of them can slow even the best computer. I've even seen them crash a system. I go through the lists of updates available and read them to be sure if I really need/want them or not.
  23. I fell for that kind of trickery myself a long time ago. The free scan said I had a whole crap load of problems. After I paid for the software, it found only a few. Now I don't use any anti virus software or any of the like. I just try to be as careful as I can be with what I download and keep track of what's in my system. I know if something new appears somewhere it shouldn't be.
  24. LOL! I know exactly what you mean. I'm in college right now working on a Nanoscience Technology degree. I can see raising money for the extra curricular activities. But these are the regular classes I'm talking about. Law says schooling is mandatory and that they are entitled to a free education. I see some extra curricular activities are being cut. It really bugs me when I see teachers being cut BEFORE the extra curricular activities. These activities are great, but our kids education should come first.
  25. Our kids started going to this school last fall. It's come to my attention that if anything is needed for their assignments, the school won't give the supplies to the kids unless they pay for it. These assignments are mandatory and if they don't pay for the supplies they will fail. Last I checked, the law stated that our kids were entitled to a free education. We pay our taxes to cover things like this and now we get to pay for it a second time. Feels like extortion to me. Can anybody shed any light on this for me? Thanks, Bill
