  1. Yesterday during a group ride, I ment to throw her in second gear to catch up with the group leader but accidentally put her into first instead. I discovered these first gens have enough power to flip ya on your back. You should have seen the looks on all those HD riders faces. One of them said he could've walked under the front wheel. I could just imagine the look on my face! All I remember thinking was, OH:yikes:SH**! She came down kind of hard. But no damage. Other than some to my shorts. Glad I put in those progressive spring when I rebuilt the frontend.
  2. I replaced mine with one of those clear reusable outfits. Works great and I can tell just by looking at it if it's getting dirty.
  3. Well now that looks interesting. I know they make some pretty nifty all-in-one aftermarket speedos that do everything ours do and maybe even more. Some get pretty hard on the wallet though. Like here http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=results/Category_ID=361/home_id=60/mode=cat/cat361.htm
  4. I would like to see this thing as well. Please?
  5. Ya a while back I accidentally formatted the wrong HDD on this computer and lost a bunch of goodies. Good thing I had a lot of it backed up onto some disks. But not all of it. I still have a bunch of recipes that I'll share if ya want to try it again. I think you can get a lot better and more realistic recipes when people share them. I've spent plenty dough on cookbooks, and when I went through them, I only found a few of them that I really liked and would make. I just use most recipes as guides anyway. Thanks, Bill
  6. What ever happened to that cookbook we were all sending in recipes for quite a while back? It's probably been a couple years ago already. It pops into my head every now and then, but then I forget about it all over again.
  7. Yup, what he said. On page 3-8 in the service manual.
  8. Ya, the recovery sucked, but the other day I could smell the brownie my other half was eating behind me while we were riding down. A while after that I could smell what smelled like corn dogs out in the middle of nowhere, and a mile or so later we drove past a chicken factory that made fried chicken.
  9. It would stay out all night and talk back a lot?
  10. Ummm... in my manual it says 298.00x8.5mm for the MKI. Same as the chart. I would have to believe what it states since I couldn't fit the rotor covers off a MKII onto my MKI. They were to small. THANKS FOR THE CHART!
  11. Well... I do find it quite interesting. Something I might do to go camping so I could haul all my crap. But NOT to my MKI! Maybe to a Goldwing... they're already ugly! J/K
  12. I have a crap load of those. I've been getting them from all the renewable energy fairs and coral/frag swaps I've attended. Quite often I get a disgusted look and a sigh from the check out person when I had them to them. But then these days a lot of them don't look like they care to be there anyway. And they do come in handy for lots of other things like you mention. I use one for my dirty clothes when camping. One for all my toiletries and shower goodies when I hit the showers at campgrounds.
  13. I stopped by a garage sale a few weeks ago not to far down the road from me when I saw a blue MKII for sale in the yard. It wasn't in the greatest shape. Been left outside for a while. Paint fading, clear coat flaking in spots, etc. But it could've cleaned up with some TLC. Don't know how well it ran. Thought about taking it for a test ride till I was told they wanted $4000 for it. I said, "Whatever!", and left. Am I wrong to think that $4000 is way to much for a bike like this? I figured it might be worth somewhere in the range of $2000-$2500. What is a MKI or MKII in excellent condition worth? If it belongs to someone here... no offence.
  14. After a bit of research this morning, the 1300ccm engine would have a bigger bore. Both engines have the same part numbers for the crank and con rods. The 1200ccm bore and stroke is 7.6cm & 6.6cm. I don't have the specs in front of me anywhere, so I'm assuming the bore on the 1300's is about 7.92cm?
  15. Where do the MKII's get the extra cubes compared to the MKI's? It it a larger bore? Longer stroke? Or both?
  16. Anybody use any of these on their keys? I kind of like the crown. How do they stay attached to the key? Set screw? Does the key have to be modified? http://www.starparts.org/contact.html

    I WON!!!

It's to bad the average Joe can't deal out this kind of justice on his own without getting himself into hot water these days. Way to many times I've seen the law biding citizen not be able to do anything about someone doing him wrong and the coppers refusing to do what's right.
  18. Can a guy still get the original blanks? I got a spare a couple years ago, but it was an ugly, new, plain blank. I'm guessing that if we can, their expensive?
  19. "Adjusting the shocks 'on the fly', could be downright dangerous, not only if you do it yourself, but things might also adjust without you having to do much with it, seeing as it's always live." I don't know about all that... but I would have a toggle switch on mine so it was only on when I want it to be.
  20. Unfortunately... I would have to agree.
  21. It probably hasen't happened to them yet because other people see them coming at them and get out of the way just in time, and because their on the phone, they never even know it happened. That's happened to me several times. I lay on the horn and I get flipped off as if I did something wrong. I wonder what would happen if it wasn't the horn and was a pistol pointed at them instead? Not that I would do that, but it has gone my head a few times. Turn around is fair play... right? I know, two wrongs don't make a wright... but three rights do make a left!
  22. I would like to be able to do the same. Sometimes I forget to make the adjustments BEFORE I get on the road. Until I figure out a mod, I just get going down a hill and put it in neutral, then put the key into acc to make my adjustments. Then I just pop start it when I'm done.
  23. Ya! That first link! Those big o-rings! They work great! You can get them in several sizes. That's what I've been using for years. Just slip them on to close the gap, and when the tire gets enough pressure in it, it just spits the o-ring off. Lubing it up with a little soapy water helps too.
  24. Looks good. I have some extras laying around. I'll have to try what you did and see how they look. Thanks.
