  1. I TOTALLY agree. This is what I use. It comes in several different colors now. I'll never use anything else on my bike. I use it on many different things. Here is a link to the website. Which reminds me... I need to order some more. http://plastex.home.att.net/
  2. This morning I found out that I had gotten my account disabled on another forum. When I got to someone who could tell me why, they said I was kicked off because my nickname was offending to many others in the forum. I was using the nickname I also use here, (a1bummer). Come to find out that in some other parts of the world, not sure exactly which, the term "bummer" is a derogatory term for a gay person. Who would've thunk?
  3. Only the best managers can work them selves out of a job. Maybe you can use this as an example on your resume?
  4. Generally speaking... You would only go to a lower grade oil as the temperatures get lower. Not the other way around. For example... use a 10W/40 during the summer months and a 5W/30 during the winter years.
  5. I wonder why the SUV decided to make the sudden stop? Makes me think maybe he might have been trying to cause trouble. Either way, if your following close enough for that to happen, your too close. Here in WI. if it happened like that, it would be your fault even if the SUV was trying to be a jerk. This make me feel pretty fortunate that I have had no close calls at all this year with any cagers. So far this year I've put on about 8000 miles and no close calls... I'm good with that. Last year I lost count of all the jerks. I wonder why the change from last year. I hope the trend keeps going that way.
  6. "The Time Machine", when I ride I sometimes feel like a little kid again, and sometimes I lose track of the time.
  7. On the left, it's where the buttons for the seek and mute, etc. are bolted. Just take out the bolt and screw in the mirror. The mirror will hold the button bracket in place.
  8. OMG!!! Your totally freakin' right!
  9. I believe the correct term for the wobble or weave would be oscillation. A high frequency oscillation would be the wobble, and a low frequency oscillation would be the weave. I had the problem a couple years back. I had the wobble, or the tail wag when I hit the long sweeping curves at 100+. I repacked the steering head bearings, changed nothing. Changed the rear tire, better but still there. Then I noticed the eneven wear on the front tire. Changed it and the problem went away. Now this spring I noticed that when the wind caught me just right or a when passing a semi, it felt as though the rear tire was made of Jello. I also had a tail wag back, but at 70 -75 mph this time. I only got 6000 miles out of that ME880 then put on an Avon Venom. The felling felt worse! I checked the rear wheel bearings when I had the rear wheel off for the tire change. They felt and looked fine. But when on the bike, I could feel a tiny bit of free-play in the bearings. I changed the rear bearings and the bike feels great again. Later I plan on adding the fork brace and solid engine mounts to see if I can make it feel even better. Hope this help someone!
  10. I've been wanting to do the same on my 84. I already swapped out the stock stereo for an old Pioneer I had. I'm also looking for a good way to add rear speakers that won't look gaudy or just plain funny.
  11. It wasn't me! Not this time anyway. I didn't get arrested. I just got a disorderly conduct ticket for doing that a few weeks back in Durand, WI. on my 84.
  12. I'd have to be making a hell of a lot more than I do now to even think about taking him seriously. BTW, When did eBay start doing classifieds?
  13. :doh:LOL!
  14. Yup! Happened to my cousins. One of them had his more than 25 years ago. He's been going back and fourth for many years till one day he wasn't allowed to pass. Unless of course he paid some sort of fee, then would be allowed to pass again.
  15. I finally hit 50,000 on my 84 a couple months ago. It had 31,000 when I bought it almost 3 years ago. Put 10,000 the first year. Not many miles the second year. It's practically spent more time on the road than in the garage this year. What would we do without them?
  16. OMFG! I don't know diddly about the laws up there, but down here I know I would be rattling a bunch of peoples cages right now if I was him. Way to often I've heard it straight from the horses mouth and still found out later I didn't have the full story. Don't ya just love it when the jerks in authority can't keep things straight and nail you for it?
  17. I guess I haven't looked at any bodies manuals lately to see what they suggest. None of my vehicles have the manual still with them. Seeing as how my newest vehicle is the 84 VR. My other is a 78 F100. Which I put in MEFI, an overdrive tranny, cruise, tilt, power windows, etc. a few years back. The poor thing doesn't see the road much with the VR around. I even skip the old Ford and take the scoot & trailer to the lumber yard when needed. It gets me some strange looks sometimes, but it works for me. I'm gonna take a look in the Old Ladies manual to see what it states now out of curiosity. That's a 99 Bonneville with about 185,000 that still runs like a champ and has never needed any major repairs. I'm a Ford nut, but I do love these GM cars.
  18. Yes, after more than 30 years toying around with engines and such, I totally agree with all that. Which is why I, "Don't skimp on the filter", either. Years ago I used to see a lot of the farmers logging tons of miles on their vehicles. They were taking a lesson from the tractor manufactures and adding the remotely located, old style filters that had the filter that looked like a roll of toilet paper, in conjunction to the factory filters. Even without the oils we have today, they were still able to prolong engine life by reducing the wear causes by contaminated oil back then with these kind of methods. I remember when 100,000 miles was a LOT on a vehicle. Now 200,000 is just getting broken in.
  19. Ya, I would like to see later updates on this as well. Also, maybe this should get added to the tech library?
  20. Growing old is mandatory, Growing up is optional!
  21. Correct me if I'm wrong here at all. It seems to me that the idea of changing oil every 3000 miles has been around for many years. But over the many years, the quality of motor oil and filters has become much better. So why is it that we still stick with the old 3000 mile intervals? I see adds boasting change interval of 5000 - 15000. I use a full synthetic with the best filter I can get and change oil every 10000 miles and have had no internal problems at all on any of my vehicles. I've seen shops put in semi or full synthetics during changes and still tell the customer to come back in 3000 miles. I've had to stop myself on several occasions from calling them out in front of the customers.
  22. Who you callin' trouble makers? All I've gotten in trouble for these days was for riding naked.
  23. Apparently I've fallen a bit behind with the news. But I just found out that there is another FUTURAMA movie, "Into the Wild Green Yonder", AND On [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_9]June 9[/ame], [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009]2009[/ame], Fox announced that 26 new episodes will be produced for [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedy_Central]Comedy Central[/ame]. Which will be the 6th season to air in 2010 - 2011. I don't know if I can wait that long! What shall I do?!
  24. A very early 70's Suzuki T500. It was a two stroke that had the kick-start on the left side that made it a bit difficult to start when on the side-stand, so I used to stand next to it and kick it with my right foot. Drove it till the carbs fell off. Literally! I then moved onto a mid 70's Yamaha 650 Special, an 85 Suzuki GS700E, an early 70's Honda CB500 with straight pipes and a chopped fork (NOT good on bumpy roads), now the 84 Venture Royale.
  25. I found mine here, "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile". Just back it up and update Firefox. There is also a portable version of Firefox that can be installed onto a thumb-drive. It also works great. You can take all your bookmarks and settings with you to any computer. And NO, none of your personal information is left behind on the computers you use for others to find.
