Any ideas how to remove a stripped Allen bolt?
a1bummer replied to Color01's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
I've also used a torx head bit that I tap in with a hammer to remove them. If you can use it in an impact driver, it would help to. Oh, and be sure to use only a good quality set of allen wrenches. Cheap ones just round off quickly and cause the problem you mention. Also, if you do round off an allen wrench after a lot lot use, you can use a grinder or cut-off wheel to cut off the rounded off part making it like new again. Just be careful not to get it to hot so it loses it's temper. -
Wot 80 mph???

What he said! They will also do wheelies big enough that you can't see over dash. -
Ok, that took care of the boredom... for about 20 seconds!

Newbie questions
a1bummer replied to crosschapel's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That would be correct. It will bolt into place, and the speedo and tach will work, but the display is totally different and will NOT work. -
Well... You just can't fix stupid!

Now that you mention the chopper gun... I remember there is a small Mom & Pop composite company a few miles to the south of me. I've been in their fab room before to talk about composites with nano-technology worked into them. I'll have to stop in and talk to the owner again and tell him about the new nano-materials I learned about this summer. Then I can see if he has any tips for me.

Badges? We don't need no stinking badges! I like that nice clean uncluttered look. Judging from the Harley showrooms and all the accessories, I couldn't get away from having to have the logos all over my bike if it was a Harley. I like a lot of their over prices accessories but wouldn't want them on my bike simply cause everything has a Harley emblem on it. Talk about going overboard!

Aside from occasionally having someone mount new tires for me, I do all my own work. Always have. The one time I did let another mechanic touch my vehicle, was in the middle of January and I did some brake line work on my Ex's car. It was so cold out I couldn't bleed the lines very well and told her to take it to the guys across the parking lot to bleed the lines. They told me there was transmission fluid in the system and told me I had to replace all the wheel cylinders and the master cylinder. Sure enough, "someone" had put trany fluid in with the brake fluid! Seeing as I'm the only one who was ever under the hood of that thing, I knew who did it and why, but they wouldn't dare admit it. I immediately drained it and flushed out the system with new fluid and everything was fine. I figure if I do my own work, I know it's done right.

I like the idea of using joint compound. But then I wouldn't get to play with it after the job was done though. So if I'm understanding you right, you used the foam and joint compound to make the mold. And then laid the fiberglass over that. Then when you took out the foam/compound, what you had left was the BEERCART and not a mold/negative for the BEERCART? Have any pics of the finished project? Thanks, Bill

Sweet! That looks like the thing I was looking for. This is similar to what I was thinking but even better. Thanks!

Hey thanks. I found a really nice write-up in another forum from a guy who made a carbon fiber/Kevlar fuel tank for a motorcycle. I've only been able to read through the first 8 of the 30 pages, but so far it is very interesting and very informative. This guy does a great job with the details. I don't know if I'll ever get the chance or time to build my tri-car thing. I also have some blueprints for a gyro-copter I would rather put the time into. But in the meantime, this process would work great for making glass or carbon fiber replacement body parts for our aging VR's. I wonder how an entire carbon fiber body would look on a 1st. gen? Here's the link to that write-up [ame=http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145975]SV Carbon Tank project for Zoran - BARF - Bay Area Riders Forum[/ame]

If it takes me longer to get dressed in all the warm clothes than it take for the trip, then I figure I should drive instead. Or if you have to have someone chisel you off the seat, it might be to cold to ride.

When I was going through rear tires to fast, I found that the rear wheel bearings were a tiny bit loose. I replaced them and now my ear Avon seems to be holding up pretty well. Just a little FYI.

Oh..I can see what the members are going to say here

Sure beats a float tube. Or floating on a log like I did when I was a kid. I used a machete to hack out a spot to sit and paddled my feet out to the middle of the lake. -
So who does a guy go to when he's built a custom rig like a trike or sidecar and needs a fiberglass body or shell made for it? Are there some tricks or simple equipment for the DIY'er so he can doe it himself? I've been putting a lot of thought into building a Tri-Car using my 83 VR and a VW engine and trans-axle. I'm sure I could put it together, but have no idea how to make fiberglass body panels. Any advice?

Why is it those meteorologists gotta be throwing that "s***" word around so willy nilly and all so early in the fall already?! If I plug my ears and pretend I never heard it, will it stay away?

Now that's funny!

The only time my scoot has been on a trailer is when I ran the rear tire through the cords. I'm just not comfortable with the idea of hauling it. I got it for a reason... to RIDE it!

I love it when a plan comes together! Now you've given me some ideas to think about. Thanks -
I figure that if it takes me longer to get ready than it takes for trip, I'll take the cage.

This is what I was gonna suggest. Sometimes it can be a real pain to get all the air out of the cooling system. If ya can get at both heater hoses, feel them after the engine warms up and see if they both are warm. If not, there is probably trapped air in the line. If both lines are cool, then start looking for what is restricting the flow. It would most likely be on the input side of the heater core. Probably a sticky flow control valve or similar.

I'm hoping maybe someone in here can help me. I just obtained two used telescopic crappie poles. At least I think their called crappie poles anyway. One is a Shakespeare TSP 13, 13' Wonderpole. The other is an older fiberglass 15.5' - 16' pole with no identification on it at all. My question is simple. How the heck do I string them up? I'm assuming I don't just tie the string off on the eye on the tip. I did manage to find some info on stringing up a bamboo pole. It says to tie it around the pole every few feet in case it brakes when I get a big one so I don't lose the fish. But I couldn't find any kind of illustrations or anything. Would any of you happen to be able to point me in the right direction? Thanks, Bill

I'm gonna have to remember that one. Sounds about right to me.

Well I got the nickname almost 35 years ago shortly after I learned to walk. When my parents would ask, where's Bill?, some one would say he's bumming around again. I was usually found either at my Uncle's about 1/2 mile away or a couple miles across the wood at my cousin's house. When I learned how to ride a bicycle, I was usually found miles away. Everybody within an 8 mile radius knew who I was and where I was supposed to be. Plus I was always getting into trouble. Nowadays when people ask where I got the name, I say, that's what the Dr. said when I was born.
