Still... You CAN'T change the laws of physics.
-
Now that you mention it, I have seen those "Slower traffic keep right" signs as well. I'm seeing the "State Law Keep right except to pass" signs more and more these days. Some state mandate that if there are 5 or more vehicles behind you, you need to pull over and let them pass. Something to that affect anyway. I seen that somewhere out west. I found this link about the "Keep right except to pass" laws in the states. http://www.mit.edu/~jfc/right.html

I totally agree. if a law isn't enforced, what's the point? We have a lot of those laws. Littering, talking on cellphones while driving, (in WI. now), and smoking in public, (some states and many cities anyway), just to name a few.

Well actually I have noticed it's usually women getting tailgated. No offense to anybody. Just an observation. But then you also have to ask why people are being tailgated. It's usually due to holding up traffic. For some reason, a lot of people just can't get it through their heads that the left lane is for passing only. Quite often I see people getting tailgated when they decide to do 1 or 2 mph faster than the traffic in the right lane. Then these same people stay in the left lane because they intent to pass the next vehicle that's a hundred yards up the road yet. If there is someone gaining on me when I'm in the left lane, I pull into the right lane as soon as there is enough room for me to merge back into that lane. If your in the right lane, nobody should be tailgating you. If you are getting tailgated, try doing the speed limit or GET OFF THE DAMN PHONE! If your in the left lane and getting tailgated, GET OUT OF THE LEFT LANE ASAP! This also happens on 2 lane roads as well. Then it's usually some bonehead who is on a cell or just doesn't feel like doing the speed limit. Then there the pricks who tailgate no matter the situation. Those are the people who have to watch out for people like me. There have been a few occasions where I've locked up my brakes because flashing my brake lights wasn't working.

Will this kit work on our carbs?
a1bummer replied to a1bummer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks, I'll take a look when I get some more time. I assume that's the price for one kit to do one carb? -
Parking in marked stalls..ediquite and safety

How is it that they can get away with such obvious discrimination? -
Just curious if anybody knows for sure if this kit for the VMax will work on our MKI's and or MKII's. I know somewhere somebody said they might except for an o-ring or two. NEW YAMAHA V-MAX V MAX VMX12 KEYSTER CARB KIT 1985 - 2005 Kit K-923YK One Kit fixes one carb, bid price is for one kit Kit includes: includes float gasket; slide needle; float needle and seat; #90 intermediate and #37.5 slow jet; air screw; misc packing and gaskets and "O" rings as shown http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-V-MAX-VMAX-VMX12-KEYSTER-CARB-KIT-1985-2005_W0QQitemZ380186182261QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5884dcc275

Okay, thanks. I should've known that. That is impressive. It just goes to show just how much better things can get when the proper time, money, and research goes into them. Unfortunately much of what most of us understand about diesels, ethanol, and hybrids is based on old outdated technology. BigBoyinMS... I've seen that one before. That's the picture I got in my head when I seen this thread. I wonder how well that idea would work for a 2-wheel drive bike. Or even an 3-wheel drive trike or hack. I know somewhere there are 2-wheel dirt-bikes, but they are shaft/chain driven. If i remember right anyway. I'm gonna have to go look those up again to refresh my memory.

Here it is. The efficiency info starts on page 9. http://quasiturbine.promci.qc.ca/QTMarchettiSthSixStroke0509.pdf

Okay, silly question, maybe. What does, "on the hose mean"?
-
Sounds interesting enough. Would've been nice if we could've covered some of that stuff in our material characterization classes.

Ya, technology in engines has made leaps and bounds in the past few years or so. I see a new type of 2-stroke using the "Atkinson cycle", as opposed to the more commonly known "Otto Cycle", can produce up to a 60% efficiency these days. WOW! Gasoline engines can't get any higher than 25-30% efficiency without using supercharger or turbos, etc., while diesel and ethanol burning engines are up around 40-45% efficiency w/out turbos and superchargers, and can burn just as clean if not cleaner.

Are you trying to figure out how much of a magnetic field is being emitted? I myself haven't used any magnetometers. We've used magnetic fields to direct the flow of electrons, ions, plasmas, x-ray difraction, etc. But nothing to actually measure the strength and/or direction of the magnetic field. our 4-point probe wasn't set up properly yet, so I didn't get the experience I wanted to on it. I used it mainly to test for continuity and to help calculate bulk & sheet resistivity of the features on our wafers after going through the whole mask/exposure/etch/strip, etc. process.

Make Ipod control box for CD player wiring?
a1bummer replied to TWehrle's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I simply made an IP-BUS plug to hook up my MP3 player to my Pioneer on my VR. An after-thought is that since my MP3 player has a FM receiver on it, I could eliminate the stereo all together. I could simply hook the MP3 player to a small amplifier to power the speakers. Then I can use the space where the stereo was for a glovebox or other storage. -
LOL! I just got my degree in Nanoscience Technology. I'm now educated enough to use a lot of mega $$ equipment like - Scanning Electron Microscope, SEM - Optical microscope - Atomic Force Microscope, AFM - Four point probe, M-Gage - Clean room protocols - Contact aligner - Reflectometer - Profilometer - Spin coater - Reactive Ion Etch - Wet chemical processing - Particle counter - Photolithography - Microprobe test station - Sample encapsulation and polishing - Micropipeting - Gel electrophoresis - Polymerase chain reaction thermal cycler Quality Methods - Statistical Process Control, SPC - Design of Experiments, DOE - Total Quality Measurements Methods, TQM It took some time but I got-r-dun! There was a lot of chemistry, physics, cellular/micro-biology, etc. I'm hopping to at least get a simple job as a lab tech somewhere close.

Diesels are much more efficient! There have been many technological advancements made in recent years that make both diesel and ethanol burning engines much more efficient, powerful and cleaner burning than gasoline engines. But because of most peoples ignorance, it's real tough to convince most people of that. Most people tend to simply go with hear-say than do the proper research on a lot of subjects.

I did that same thing to mine a while back. For a couple tank-fulls anyway. It was just plain to loud for my taste. It sure sounded sweet when I cracked her open though. My fear was getting pulled over for loud exhaust. it did help with acceleration! Years ago I know some engines had troubles with "burning" exhaust valves. I'm guessing that the reduced back pressure made them run to lean. If I remember right the problem could be avoided if the carbs were tuned properly.

I've been having problem for the past few months as well. I recently learned it can be caused by the medications I take for my frequent allergies, sinus infections, and bronchitis. As a side effect, it causes the mucus in our ears to thicken and not drain properly. Using an over the counter drug with guaifenesin in it such as Zyrtecshould help thin it out a bit.I'll be picking some on my way home tonight after class. This is only one possible cause by the way. About 5% of the people who have Tinnitus, have it due to this cause.
