As long as there's not a 30% chance of rain like there was for Orlin and Sharon's Maintenance Day, we should be golden. Bill

83 & 84 Ignition Units
a1bummer replied to a1bummer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yup, your right, damn dyslexia got me again. The 3JJ is for the 90-93 models. And yes, this ignition unit is a 26H-10. Thanks for the confirmation and the correction. Bill -
Are they interchangeable? I'm assuming not, but I've been known to be wrong now and then. 83 P/N: 3JJ-82305-11-00, 84 P/N: 41R-82305-11-00. I have an 84 and I've never had any issues with the ignition unit so I went ahead and changed the diodes out before I did as a little extra insurance. I would still like to have an extra just in case I've spoken too soon. I have an 83 for a parts bike and I believe that ignition unit works fine, but it's useless to me if they are different from 83 to 84. If they are different, anybody need one for an 83? Anybody wanna swap one for the other? Bill

Solo camping trip
a1bummer replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I would cover it and park it up front where it can be easily seen by others and where ever a camera might be looking. Have you thought about alarm systems? Maybe something with proximity sensors? Get a couple of those personal alarms that put out a really high pitched eardrum piercing squeal that's activated when the strap is pulled out and attach it to your gear or to the cover where it can't be seen? Like one of these, http://safetynow.com/resources/Palarm.jpg You could always tag one of these guys along... -
trip odo reset rubber ?
a1bummer replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Still no ideas, damn! I just got a new to me dash cover for mine off eBay that still had the reset button cover on it, but when I pushed it to reset it, the rubber cover fell off. Go figure! I've been looking at some of the marine toggle switch rubber covers thinking they may do the trick. http://www.parts-express.com/images/products/standard/060-378_s.jpg Also thought about maybe using a neoprene or rubber vacuum cap and a rubber grommet might due as well. http://performanceparts.com/performance_parts_images/mr_gasket_3704.jpg http://www.radiodaze.com/images/sce/grommetsbw.jpg Bill -
Gear idicator

Wow, I didn't realize I've been ignoring this problem for this long. I finally got around to getting a spare CMU and got it put in. Now everything works as it should. As I thought, nothing wrong with the switch on the tranny or any of the wiring. Now when I get time I'll have to go through the bad CMU and see if I missed anything the first time I had it apart. Gonna check all the solder joints again and see if there are any bad components I can find. I just thought I would give an update in case anybody else ever has similar symptoms and to help point them hopefully in the right direction. Thanks for all your input guys, even if it was so long ago. Have a great Memorial Day weekend everybody. Ride safe and don't forget, it's not National "BBQ Day" coming up. L8tr g8trs! Bill -
So where can a guy find a set of those mount/brackets you have your light ad horns mounted on? Bill

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but my cousin has a set of Dunlop Elite 3's for sale, just bought brand new. Front is 130/70/18 rear is 160/80/16. $329.00 for the set. Not sure if that's a good price or not. Tired are located in Turtle Lake, WI. 54889. PM me if interested. Thanks, Bill

On the rear tire that is? My cousin bought a pair of tires for his 1500 GW but decided to take a different route for some reason. Anywho, I considered buying them of him, the rear is a 160/80/16. Stock is 140/90/16. So that's about 20mm wider, and I know its been mentioned that people have gone with a 150mm tread width. Not having actually measured th space with the stock size, I'm guessing a 160 would be to wide. What's the widest that anybody has been able to stuff under the bush pad? Thanks, Bill

Anybody know what happened to HIDCountry.com? I purchased my HID headlight from them last spring and Friday even it went out for a second time. Luckily I have some nice bright running light, but it was still not a nice ride home in the dark. Anyways, I looked them up to let them know it went out again, but I get redirected to light-pros.com. Is it the same people and just a new name, or completely different website altogether? Did HID Country go out of business? Thanks, Bill

Ya know I'll be there. Is there anything I need to bring? Food, tools, etc.?
-
Or you could try the craft store and saddle shop or even eBay. You can probably find a nice metal one in a variety of shapes and sizes. Almost anything to suit hour taste.

Um, I dunno. Looks like what might happen 9 months after a sports car and crotch rocket go to prom together. Very interesting to say the least. Bill

I did similar when I was a kid. Only I pulled it with my old Rupp snowmobile. I put wheels on the front one year when there wasn't any snow to speak of. Should've seen the look on my Dad's fce the first time he seen me come around the corner of the house with it. I took it everywhere and never had any issues pulling it. Of course I couldn't do anything near highway speeds. The overhang out back was sometimes an issue tearing through the woods and brush to get to the good fishing holes though. Had to watch out for the dips. And ya, I did get a lot of weird looks for some reason. Bill

I seen this one back in 07 at a bike show. This one looks a bit smaller though. I got bet in show that time. Bill

Can't ya just use the hole to give people that cut you off, the one finger salute? Or how about putting in a sunroof? Bill
