Fuel in crankcase problem???
a1bummer replied to SC89Venture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have an old Honda CB450 here that had plenty fuel in the crankcase after the P.O. put "Fancy" plugs into it and burned a hole into one piston. -
So where did you get the light housings? What vehicle were they originally from? You mentioned that you got them in pairs. So I'm guessing they were for a car, truck or SUV? Running/driving lights maybe?

It's been quite a while since I've looked, but I think here in WI. that red light have to face rearward or on the rear if they face to the side, and amber can go just about anywhere. Maybe only amber facing rearward if they are turn signals? Blue light can't be used. If that's the case, I wonder how it would look if a person totally covered a bike with LEDs. I know I saw a old Goldwing, (I think), somewhere covered with lights. But they weren't all LEDs though. It was king of hideous, but I'm sure people saw it.

YA! All those thoughts are exactly what I've been thinking. Sometimes I don't know what I would do without all my fancy gadgets too. But then, I think I could get used to it in short time. Imagine how much less hectic our live would be without all the cellphones, pagers, laptops, etc.? I think the Amish and Mennonites are onto something.

Ya, I've been itching for a ride myself. It was some time in November for my last ride as well. I though about taking the bike to school yesterday, but then decided not to. Then I saw three other bikes out. That didn't help. Now I'll at least have to take the bike to the auto parts and hardware stores this afternoon. I found a fuel leak in the Bonneville. I gotta get it fixed before my trip down to Diamond, MO. for my little sister's wedding. I have to replace the cat sometime within the next two weeks as well.

I've been seeing more and more ads and commercials about how important "keeping it local" is. I have no problem with that all. I support my local butcher and fruit/vegetable farmers as much as I can. But then there's just about everything else a guy needs. The local grocery and hardware stores have way over inflated prices, and that's only if you happen to be able to find what you need. One of the lacal hardware stores wanted $4.50/ft. for some chain for my snow-blower. I found it in the next town over at a Mennonite owned hardware store for $1.56/ft. So I end up driving 45 minute to Wally World where it's cheaper. But then they still don't carry a good share of the things I'm looking for. And if you ask they usually say it's seasonal or just plain have no idea what I'm asking for. It's gotten hard to find someone who knows what their talking about behind the counter at some the auto parts stores. Menards and Best Buy seldom ever have anything I need. So I end up doing most of my business online. So I have to wonder if the same people who put on those ads saying to "keep it local", ever talk to the "local" businesses about their extremely high prices. I think that if they were asking fair prices, I would have no problem doing more of my business with them. Is it because I'm getting older? Am I turning into my Dad?!?!

I think about the only decent service I get these days is at Culvers, Olive Garden, and a local mexican restaurant called Cancun's. Everywhere else, they seem as though they couldn't really even care if your there. It used to seem like it was the younger generation that had those attitudes. But these days it seems to be just about everybody and in just about any type of business. Last summer I called one of the local stealers to price a couple bearing for the rear wheel on my MKI. The tech couldn't understand which ones I needed. He kept telling me there were ONLY two bearings in the rear end. He kept saying there was one in the wheel and one on the big gear. I said to forget it and hung up. Then I found what I needed online at a much better price.

I think all I've seen over here for motorcycle awarness is some yard signs and the occasional bumper sticker.

Toilet bowl brushes work great for getting into those hard to reach areas too. Just make sure you get a NEW one. -
Congrats and Thank You! I tried smoking when I was a teen. All it did for me was make me sick and I tossed my cookies all over. Pot made me do the same thing...

Drag Specialties drivers backrest pivot covers
a1bummer replied to a1bummer's topic in Watering Hole
Well I got them off. there were four rivets holding each one on. And the bolt just kept turning because it was held in by two nuts locked together. -
Anybody know how to get the Drag Specialties drivers backrest pivot covers off? The backrest is from a 94 Goldwing and is about 3" to tall. I need to get these covers off so I can shorten it and hide the welds under the cover when I'm done. There's an allen head bolt on the back but all it does is just spin. I'm thinking maybe the plastic ring that says WINGLEADER comes off and there maybe some screws under that. Anybody ever try to take off those covers?

It sucks that I can't get a HC/collector plate. I just got my renewal notice yesterday.

There was a girl somewhere whose dream was to be an airline stewardess. But she couldn't be one because she was to short. So she had a Doctor break or cut the bones in her legs and put some kind of cage around each leg with some sort of turnbuckles. Every day she would turn the screws a bit farther to stretch out her legs until she was tall enough to get hired. True story. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/girl-who-had-legs-stretched-suffers-her-third-fracture-689837.html Another girl had her legs lengthened 5 inches! WOW! Or should I say OW! http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/dec/15/gender.uk -
I could tell ya what I think of insurance companies...

That's a good idea. Now put another tub on the bottle with a check valve and you won't have to take the hose off the bleeder to get more suction. Just keep squeezing until you hearts content.

Ya know, now that you guys point it out, I should have gotten that color of rain gear instead of the black and gray ones I did get. They have the reflective stripes like in the picture. But still, on a dark, rainy, and cloudy freeway, that bright green or yellow is much better. Hind sight is 20/20 as they say. And you absolutely right. With that suit on... you almost have to try not seeing a person. That being said, I did have a guy in an LTD pull out in front of me in my old wrecker. I wondered how he could NOT have seen me. It wasn't a small truck and it had a large light bar and a great big boom-lift on the back. He hit me hard enough to push me over quite a ways. It was an 9000 lb. truck! Luckily it was a city side street and I was only doing about 15 mph. -
Ya, I can't justify paying that much for those BIG name brand boxes either. I've gotten it by the generic brand tools and and boxes on occasion. I bought one of those Harbor Freight air compressors because I don't use one a lot and the price appealed to me. But when it gets cold out, its breaker kicks out. When I say cold I mean below 45*F. I took it back and got another one that does the same. It's reasons like this that make me leery of the off brands. That SS box felt like it was made from a thin gauge steel. If it was made from a thicker gauge, I probably would've poked around in it some more. Even some of the generic brands I've seen felt sturdier.

Hey Squidly, What ya asking for them? I just got a Drag Specialties backrest from a Gold Wing this winter off eBay and put that on my MKI. The mounting brackets were different but I had the right ones on hand already. It fit, but it's a bit tall. I'm going to take about two or three inches off and it should feel a bit better. Arm rests would complete the package nicely I think. It would probably make my better half happy too. Thanks, Bill P.S. If anybody needs some Drag Specialties Driver's backrest mounting brackets for a 94 Gold Wing let me know.

I saw them last weekend at the local Sam's Club. Sure they may have looked pretty, but they sure were flimsy feeling. They might work for the back yard mechanic, but I think most any serious mechanic would do as I did and just walk away.

I see they keep pointing out that Anita Zaffke was wearing a helmet. That's great, but what difference does it make? It seems like superfluous information to me. Or am I not understanding why they keep mentioning it? It reminds me of a conversation I had with a couple acquaintances. They figured that if a motorcyclist, who wasn't doing anything wrong, wasn't wearing a helmet and got hit my a car that "Didn't see them", and got killed, that it would be the motorcyclists own fault they're dead. I argued that it would be the person driving the car that wasn't paying attention that would be at fault, PERIOD! I just don't understand some peoples ways of rationalizing things. I also don't understand why we keep passing new laws that are supposed to protect us from other peoples stupidity when we don't bother to enforce them or any of the other laws that are already in effect for similar reasons. Unless of course there's an "accident". Then maybe we'll think about it. Every day I see these laws being ignored. But I'm just another citizen. Not a cop. So what can I do about about it? Nothing! So why should any of these people care if anybody sees them breaking these laws if it isn't a cop who is catching them in the act? I just don't think any of these laws are being taken seriously. Just my -
If it hasn't been mentioned already. An, ON-ON Single Pole, Double Throw (SPDT) toggle switch will do what you want. Flip it one way and your head light is on and you "dummy" light is off, flip it the other way and the "dummy" light is on and the head light is off. Here's a link to some SPDT & SPST relays also. http://www.the12volt.com/relays/relays.asp

I think way to many people are way to willing to rip on others without bothering to take a good look at themselves.
