I've been thinking about going with the MKII bags & trunk for my MKI. Anybody have all the goodies for the conversion at a reasonable price? I would also be needing a hitch. Right now I'm skimming through eBay and finding a few goodies. So far I'm up to about $500 without the trunk, trunk bracket, tail lights, and trim. I found a complete trunk that's the right color that would add another $250 O $300 to the total. I'm thinking it could be $1000 or more if I can find all the parts on eBay. You guys think that's reasonable? I would later turn around and sell all the old goodies to try and offset the price. That would help a bit. I'm not sure what they would all be worth though. Thanks, Bill

It might surprise you. I put my Blond in a similar show a couple years back and got "Best in Show".

Which style of carburetor synchronizer do you think is better? The kind with vacuum gauges or the kind with mercury filled tubes? Or whichever kind of Hg alternative they're using these days. Would the gauges be as accurate? I don/t really want to worry about losing the Hg or other fluid either like many here have done on accident.

So... this might be a silly question, but can I get one for my MKI?

The Crusty Riders of Wisconsin? Aka The Crow? If I remember right anyway. I found them while looking for a sidecar on Craigslist a month or so ago. Then I was able to find their facebook page they mentioned. But now I can't find them again. Anybody here a member or have the link? Thanks, Bill

We have officially named the ride, "The Naked Biker Run", August 28th, register anytime between now and then, 15 per couple per bike, or 10 per person, we have tentative destinations, (last year we ran along highway 35 for part of the ride), TSG (titanium snailglazers) are playing that night, free food and more, still got some kinks to work out though...um we are leaving at noon from The Construction Zone Bar & Grill. I and my better half have a hotel room reserved for the 27th & 28th at the Cobblestone Inn & Suites in Durand, which only a couple blocks or so from the Zone. So if anybody would like to join us, your more than welcome. Hope to see some of ya there, Bill

this sounds like it would be a nice weekend to finally meet some of you guys. I'm only a couple hours north of La Crosse in Thorp. I'll tell tell the better half and make plans for us to come ride. I've been through that area many times and it really is a nice ride. TTYL, Bill

I'm working on putting the original engine for my MKI back together. It hald fallen off my trailer and the valve covers and a couple side covers had gotten cracked and/or beaten up. With the help of some generous members, I think I have everything I need to put it back together. So now I have all the parts and a bucket full of bolts sitting on my work bench. I'm trying to figure out which bolts go where. Unless I'm not looking in the right part of my manual, it only tells me the diameter of the bolts that hold the part in place. As in 6mm,8mm, and 10mm. But how long is the bolt supposed to be for that particular hole? I can look at a microfiche and find out the P/N for the bolt, but still no dimensions. Would anybody happen to have some sort of reference that can tell me the lengths of the bolts according to either P/N or location? Thanks, Bill

The shading, contrast, and brightness don't appear to match very well between the baby in the bucket and the passengers on the bike. The passengers towards the front have some sun on their heads and then everything else is shaded. Look at the skin color on the baby on the back of the woman which is shaded. Then look at the baby in the bucket, it also would be shaded the same as the first baby. But there is quite a difference in the colors. Then look at the way the baby is in the bucket. the weight wouldn't be evenly distributed. The top of the bucket would be leaning towards the camera. But the rest of the people on that scoot I can definitely believe. I remember when I was little, me and my brother and sister would always ride with my Dad on his old Honda. I remember sitting on the gas tank and holding onto the handlebars. But now days in America, you can get in really hot water for just about anything. When I was down in Mo. for my sister's wedding this spring, my now Brother-in-law had the cops called on him when he too his 4 or 5 year old son for a ride in the dirt bike. He pulled a couple wheelies and stuff. The kid was grinning from ear to ear. The guy races bikes, so I'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing. My sister on the other hand, is a whole different story.

I got my Superbrace in the mail today. It's already on and looks good. Now I'm just waiting for my new rear tire to get put on and my solid engine mounts. I'm going through the rear suspension in the mean time and greasing up bushings and repacking bearings good. OH... I CAN'T WAIT!

Engine knock
a1bummer replied to BrileyR's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
just a little FYI. When I thought I had a knock in my engine, it turned out to be the baffles in the exhaust collector rattling. -

I've placed about 6 neodymium magnets on my bike that I salvaged out of some hard drives. 2 on the front forks, 2 by the front foot pegs, and two on the trailer hitch. But it still doesn't seem to help much. -
Well I finally got my rear sequential LED turn signals installed and working properly. I had them done last year but never got around to getting them put in until this week. Now I just have to get the fronts done. What do ya think? Thanks, Bill

ROTFLMFAO! Thanks for those images that are in my head now. As for the collector, I gutted it when I figured out it was that making noise and not the original engine. It was making a strange howling noise after getting on her last week. I wasn't sure if it was the one baffle that I don't remember if I left in there or not. But I ended up thumping the bottom with my little big hammer and popped the center in slightly today and that made it go away. I'm guessing that the center being domed out slightly was allowing the exhaust to resonate at just the right frequency to cause the loud howl. I'm also guessing that maybe when I got on her, it may have build up enough pressure inside the collector to pop the center of the collector out far enough to make it start howling when it hadn't before. It makes me wonder just how much power is being uncorked when we put on aftermarket mufflers. Which will be coming later. And I plan on getting rid of that collector all together and replace it with one of those Markspipes collectors made for the VMax. But the last time I heard he was wanting somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 for them now. When I called him a while back, he wanted $250. If that's the case I'll have to build my own. Those shifter linkage seals and a few other miscellaneous gaskets, seals, hoses, and o-rings are already in the plan as well. Thanks, Bill

Nothing wrong with the engine that's in her right now. I had taken the original engine out because I thought I had spun a bearing or something. Only to find out later after swapping in the engine from my 83 parts bike, that it was the collector making all the racket. So now that I'm back to work, I can afford to add some of those mods everybody keeps chatting about in here. So I figured why not do it to the engine that's been stored in my shed so I can reduce the amount of downtime. Plus, it has less miles on it than this engine does and gave me better mileage. I just got an estimate for all the parts from Rick over at Buckeye Performance, so I can get started as soon as I get the parts delivered. I can work on the engine as I feel like it on my days off and still be able to ride back and forth to work. Later, Bill

Sounds about right. When I went down to MO. a few years ago, I was running between 80-85 mph most of the way and it didn't give me a lick of trouble and purred like a kitten all the way. The 17* weather, snow, sleet, or rain never bothered it either. Wish I could've said the same for myself though.

Horrible Howling
a1bummer replied to a1bummer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
At leas for now anyway. I changes out both front header pipes with no change in how it sounded. Then I got to thinking... while it was running I stuck the floor jack under the collector. I put only a little pressure on it and the noise went away. I let the jack back down and the noise came back. Then I grabbed my little big hammer and "messaged" the under side of the collector a little bit, and no more howling. It didn't take much. Now we'll see how long this little fix works. Before I did that, it sounded like hitting a cowbell. Now it sounds pretty solid when I tap on it with my smaller hammer. I'm assuming that the header piped are double walled for two reasons. 1). The outer wall acts like somewhat of a heat shield? 2). So the chrome doesn't turn blue like it does on many single walled exhaust pipes? Thanks for the replies guys. Bill -

Yup! I've had to use this method a hundred time already. Quite often around here, even if there is a cage behind me, the light still won't change. I've even had a cager get pizzed off at me because the light wasn't changing quick enough. -
Ok, so I'll be putting the original engine back in my 84 soon. But before I do so I'll be taking care of the second gear issue. It has never had the slipping yet, so I wanted to do some preventative maintenance before I put it back in. I figure it would be less costly if I took care of the problem now than if I wait until it starts slipping out of second gear. You know what the mechanics say,"You can pay me now, or you can really pay me later". But anyway, is there anything else in there I should address while I'm in there besides just the defective thrust washer? While I've got it apart I was also going to put in one of Buckeye's higher output stators. Can I still get one of those stator cooler upgrades somewhere? I'll also be putting in one of Buckeye's spin-on oil filter adapters and solid engine mounts as well. Am I missing anything? Any other suggestion while I'm in the process? Thanks, Bill

Are both front and rear header pipes double walled? I have spares of both out in the garage laying up in the rafters. I' have time to swap out the front today but won't have time to swap out the rear until Tuesday or so. Man I really hate these 12 hour night shifts. Thanks for the info guys. I'll update ya on any progress. Bill. -

Well I got it back in and it still makes the same howl. I knew it might be long shot, but I had to try it. Stranger things have happened. I still can't figure out why it could howl like that now but never has before. Sooo... Does anyone have an extra collector they want to sell?
