A good wire-feed welder and all the necessary accessories to weld aluminum, a torch, a band saw, mill/lathe, Jessica Alba, an upstairs for my lab, insulation, the list goes on. But that's more than 2 choices, isn't it. Bill

Hey! I would like to send you all an invite to our post wedding reception via this informal post. It will be Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 28th in Dallas, Wi. The address is 1855 2 1/2 Ave. Chetek, Wi. 54728. Were having a barn dance, pig roast, DJ, and maybe a bonfire after the Dj is done. Food served at 5pm and DJ starts at 7pm. There will be room for camping. We will also have a couple kegs of High Life, but if you want anything else alcoholic to drink, it's BYOB. It will be outside and in a barn, so please dress casually. Please RSVP with number attending via text to PM or email to theskes@yahoo.com by April 30th so we know how much food to order. I'll be saving an area for cycle parking somewhere. I hope to meet more of the venturerider gang. Hope to see you there, Bill & Jeannie

I too was one of those unpopular kids in school. I have Dyslexia, ADHD, Dysgraphia, and Asthma. All things that no amount of surgery could fix. Another factor was all the abuse I took from my Father on almost a daily basis, as well as watching and hearing what he did to my Mother and sometimes my older brother. And then there was the fact that I was a Jehovah's Witness. It took a lot of years before I figured out why all the other kids were always asking why I believed in Satan instead of God. And they weren't polite about it either. Even with dealing with all that as a kid, I think I turned out rather well. But you would have to ask the people around me to get an unbiased opinion. I don't do drug, I'm not an alcoholic, I'm not in jail/prison, etc.. It took a lot of years to become the person I am today, and I wouldn't be that person if it hadn't been for all those things that happened in my life. So even as tough as things were for me, I wouldn't change a thing if I had a chance. What would help is if parents would tech their kids that we're not all the same and that all because someone is different, doesn't mean there's something wrong with them. Teach them tolerance, forgiveness, and understanding. Which is what all those people were supposed to be learning in their churches and what have ya anyway. And lets not forget what we've been taught once we're adult. Bill

Well I guess that goes to show how much I've been paying attention to what's been going on in my own back yard. That must mean we haven't been getting together and having cocktails often enough. Glad to see things worked out for ya. Say Hi to your better half! And don't forget about May 28th. Later, Bill

I used to use it to help start my wrecker during the winter before I replaced all the dead glow plugs and got two new 1100cca batteries. It worked better than ether. But it did make the engine knock hard and the whole truck would rock pretty good until she warmed up. It just took a tiny squirt down the intake. To much and the engine wouldn't turn over so well. Truck/Semi drivers use gasoline in their fuel during colder weather to help reduce gelling and help starting. I don't recall what the ratio was though. Bill

Here in WI., the placard that hangs from the mirror i NOT "valid" on a motorcycle or scooter. I don't really understand why seeing as how it it supposed to be valid on any motor vehicle, and a motorcycle is in fact a "motor vehicle". The only explanation I got from the DMV when I mentioned the law was rather discriminating, was that it was to easy to steel if it was on a bike. Which doesn't seem to be a good excuse seeing as how I have seen them on convertibles and vehicles with the windows open. Heck, if someone wants it bad enough, they'll break a window anyway. The only option for me was to get a HC plate. Bill

Ya, I bet it would. My thought was that if I did fix it, I was gonna put knobbies on front and rear and use it as an on/off road bike.

If anybody here is either looking for or knows anyone looking for a 1978 Honda CB400, either for parts or to repair, they are more than welcome to come get it. When I got it, I did get it to start, but not well. I found a hole in one of the pistons. My first hunch is it was caused by the fancy splitfire plugs that were in it. I took the engine out and pulled both pistons. A friend was interested in fixing it but then lost both pistons. A long story how he managed that. The timing guides also need replacing and a valve stem also got worm kind of funny as well. I do have all the parts boxed up and it has always been store indoors. It's a flat primer gray and has a tear in the seat, but is in good condition otherwise with good tires, at least the last time I looked, I think). I also have a couple manuals that you can have as well. When I was going to fix it, I was going to bore it 1 over and if I remember right it was gonna run about $500 total or so. Any questions, please feel free to ask. I'm not fixing it myself because I have plenty other projects. I'm giving it away because it was given to me by the original owner. And I'm usually not much of a capitalist either. Thanks, Bill P.S. I'll try to get into my shed later and take some pics if needed.

There doesn't appear to be any way to do so. I know I would've found it to be handy now and then. Bill

Help-valve shim tool
a1bummer replied to dug050's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I'd be interested in those. I have a few friends who either work in or own metal fab outfits that I'll ask if they can make them. And what it may cost to do so. The more information I can get the better. Thanks, Bill -

Maybe this will help ya? Bill -
Yes, that is a very interesting read. Considering the way some of you guys keep talking about Yamaha not listening to customer needs/wants, I guess it's not real surprising that Yamaha has had a drop in sales. But then I have to take into account that we're only 1/4 of the way through the 2011 year, so I'm sure those figures will/could change drastically by the end of the year. Now am I safe to assume that those figures reflect the entire 2010 year and only 3 months into 2011? So then the figures show that seeing as how we're only 3 months into 2011, most manufactures are already showing sales in excess of the entire 2010 model year? Now some more statistics I would be interested in are how the ratio of motorcycles to motorcycle accidents have changed over the years. We keep hearing about how the number of motorcycle accidents has increased over the years, but we don't hear about how many more cycles are on the road. Hypothetically speaking, say in 1980 2% of the 100,000 motorcycles sold were in some sort of accident, and in 2010 1% of the 1,000,000 sold were involved in similar accidents. All we hear is that in 1980 there were 2,000 motorcycle accidents and in 2010, there were 10,000. So then we see a 500% increase in motorcycle accidents from 1980-2010, but in reality the ratio of motorcycle accidents to motorcycle sales has fallen 50% from 1980-2010. But we never hear that part. Did it change anything significant for the passenger? Can the bracket be felt much, if at all, by the passenger when riding? I love the idea and your work, I just wouldn't want the bracket under/in the seat to be poking my wife in the crotch area and making for an uncomfortable ride. The brackets for the backrest I have now dig into her knees. Your idea is a route I would take as long as it doesn't interfere with passenger comfort. Keep up the good work, Bill

When I bought my VR, it didn't have a knob/lever on the fuel shutoff/petcock. Would anyone happen to have an extra one laying around they would part with? I've found the entire petcock a few times om fleebay, but I don't care to shell out $30+ for one when all I need is the dang nabid knob. Thanks, Bill

Starter crunching
a1bummer replied to BlueVenture87's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
So far mine has never made a "clunking" noise yet. But this spring when I went to start her up for the first time since fall, it slipped out a few times. The starter kicked in as normal and the engine spun, then the drive slipped out and the engine quit spinning. On the plus side, it started a hell of a lot easier and quicker this spring after I put that Deka AGM battery last summer. But the question in my head is, is this also related to the clunking that you other guys have had? Would anybody happen to have any before and after pics of the clutch mod? Thanks, Bill -
Are these what all you guys are talking about? Circled in red... Bill P.S. Maybe if you guys took them off, there would be less wind resistance, and maybe you could keep up with us first geners a bit better?

If you bought the kit yourself, then there should've been a small CD with it that has a video on how to use it. If you don't have the CD, here is a link to their site that has a video also. And YES, it really does work just the way they advertise it will. That doesn't happen very often. http://www.plastex.net/index.php?pr=How_To_Videos

Stay away from the Nikon P90. I bought one a couple years ago. It takes great pics in the daylight, but in low light it takes absolutely horrible pics. It wants to auto adjust for everything then. The shutter stays open longer to gather more light automatically. Which is nice when you want it to work that way. But 95% of the time I don't. I don't want to spend 5-10 minutes making subtle adjustments manually every time I want to take a picture. But for a bike ride it might be handy when it can take pictures every split second as long as you hold the button down. But then it may be a bit bulky. I just might have to give it a try this summer. Ya, the warm climate in the Southern Caribbean sure made me feel a whole lot better. After a week and a half my chronic bronchitis and sinusitis sure felt better. All those stairs on the cruise ship didn't help the degenerative joint disease in the legs, but the Captain Morgan and Rum sure did. All the pretty woman in the bikinis didn't hurt either. They helped take my mind off my problems. But then the nude beach was a different story. Trust me when I say that not all the people on the nude beaches are super models. If I could take my Venture and my wife with me, I'd move down that way to get some relief. Bill
