A while back I remember a thread about a tachometer program for a pc that used a microphone to determine the rpm of and engine by listening to the sound of the engine. I had the program downloaded, but never got a chance to try it out before I lost it. Now I can not find it again for life of me. Does anybody remember it and know the link? Bill Never mind, I finally found it here http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=38904&highlight=tachometer+program

Anybody use these on their 1st gens? How do/did you like them? Pros? cons? I'm gonna be needing some new pads soon and was just thinking about all the different kinds that are available and thought maybe these would be a nice upgrade from the OEM/organics or even maybe the semi metallic pads. Sooner or later I plan on doing the SS brake line upgrade, but until then I figured better pads would do. I really have no problem with the brake system as it is now, but any improvement would be a good thing. Bill

I just so happen to be one of those Atheists. There have been several times when someone has belittled, harassed, or otherwise ridiculed me when I have made it known I am an Atheist. I tried a little experiment and put the "Darwin" fish symbol in my signature a while back and got plenty grief for it. Only one person politely ask me what it meant for sure and what my points of view were on the subject. We had several pm's back and forth. None of which was rude or insulting. So YES, religious discussions can be held without one or all getting all bent out of shape. But by no means should those discussions be done here in the public view so the childish and ignorant people, who just can't help them selves, to ridicule other. The same should also go for the prayers. When you post a thread asking for prayers here, your asking everyone on the entire site for prayers. And while I do ever so deeply feel for those of you who are in a rut or have lost someone you care for, or whatever the case may be, I do not want to pray for you or anybody else. As for the jokes, there was an atheist joke that was very insulting that was less a joke and more of a bashing that condoned violence against them. I had asked it to be removed because I had found it to be very offensive. But the person/persons in charge at the time could not see the offense and chose to leave it posted so many more could join in on the fun at anothers expense. So these days I no longer have the Darwin symbol in my signature, much like many others are aloud to have other religious symbols and sayings in there's without ridicule, and I don't bother reading the jokes anymore. Simply because, even though some people here believe we are all treated with respect and dignity no matter who we might be or where we're from, that is far from the truth. But on the other hand I feel it is only the minority here who feel it is ok to put others down for things they themselves can't possibly comprehend, and I in spite of, thoroughly enjoy this site and have met many wonderful people from here, and hope to meet many more. Oh! And the vast knowledge and all the tech stuff here helps as well. No other site/forum I have ever been a part of, has been so comprehensive. Bill

Has anyone used a B&H seat cover?
a1bummer replied to preach2u's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
A few days ago I saw someone had mentioned they has put some insulation/heat barrier under the seat, and it helped during the summer. Speaking of seats, has anybody done the seat mod on a 1st gen like they do on the 2nd gen with the memory foam and gel insert? I sat on Bryan's last fall and it sure did feel comfy. I'm thinking a nice Swede seat would feel better than the vinyl. But then it would have to be waterproofed. I'm thinking that it wouldn't get as hot in the direct sun as the vinyl gets. I have a brown seat and can only imagine how hot the black vinyl gets. The biggest issue with my vinyl seat is that after I apply some armor all, it gets slippery and I slide forward on it when I come to a stop. Also I notice some of the pattern is beginning to get rubbed off. Thanks, Bill -
I wonder if yellow stains and skid marks would cost extra.

I went to ram-mount.com for my mounting system and it holds it very securely. The 765T also has a FM transmitter that will allow it to play through the stock stereo system via a station that isn't being used by another radio station. It also has a headphone jack so I don't even need to play my tunes through the stereo. I just put my ear buds on under my helmet. I've never used any other GPS, so I don't really know what others have to offer. Another thought. A lot of phones these days have a built in GPS. Have you given that a thought? But then the smaller screen could make it less useful while riding down the road. Bill

I got a refurbished Garmin Nuvi 765T fr om Best Buy online and so far, I love it. It has a lot of "bells & whistles", but no lifetime updates. But it was a bargain at $149.99. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=AD9AE0C4C4C77E6FD30315546CA3BBF7.bbolsp-app01-49?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=-2300525025167616767&id=pcat17071&type=page&st=Garmin+765T&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960 Bill

Well I got my key blanks and took them to the local hardware store to have them cut. I gave them a try when I got home and neither of them work. One will turn the ignition if I wiggle it just right, but not at all if I flip it over. Same key works fine in the gas trap, but then not if I flip it over. Now I'm gonna have to go talk to them tomorrow and see if they will be willing to get me some new blanks and cut them again for me. And maybe if I'm lucky, they'll work this time. Either that or give them the bill for having to go into Eau Claire to Tru-Lock and having them done. Their not cheap! Which is why I ordered my blanks on-line in the first place. Bill

Anybody have any ideas on how to cut down the dust in a pole barn? I and my wife have been spending every weekend cleaning out her Dad's pole barn since the snow cleared enough to get into it. It was used to store hay up until 20 years or so ago. I got all the old hay out and now the dirt has a layer of real fine dirt on top that is more like dust. This is where we are having our post wedding reception and we are trying to think of a good way to cut down the dust on the floor so it doesn't get kicked up so easily when all the people start showing up. I was thinking that a good wetting down would help the finer particles clump together a bit and not get kicked up so easily. I also thought maybe some sawdust might help. Especially where the dance floor is gonna be. Others have mentioned a load of gravel. But I'm thinking that fresh laid gravel is hard to walk on until it is good and settled. The party is in three weeks. Anybody have any other ideas? Thanks, Bill

Thanks guys. I told my wife she was using it all wrong! I hope those punctures on my butt go away soon! Bill

Well that could very well be. It is a farm I've been cleaning out. Bill

Can anybody tell me what the heck this thing is and what it's for? I've been doing some cleaning out of old junk at my Father-in-law's farm and came across it. Thanks, Bill

Clear Side Panels
a1bummer replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I would be interested those! Right now I also used some Aluminum to close up the side overs. I polished them to a shine, but I would rather have chrome. I also took out the inside panels of the of the fairing lowers to allow some airflow over the engine in warmer weather. Thanks, Bill -
YA! That is one of the places I want to visit before I kick the bucket. I'm a big Sci-Fi nerd, so after watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind, it and the location in California, Vasquez Rocks, where they shot the Captain Kirk and Gorn fight scene, as well as many other movie and tv scenes, are both on my "Bucket list". http://www.elevenshadows.com/travels/miscellaneous/vasquezrocks/ And of course the list would go on. Niagara Falls was in Superman II, so that would be another place to visit. Well, for that reason, and the awesome natural scenery. Does that make me a nerd? Bill

So how old were you guys when you had your knees replaced? I've been having troubles since Feb. of 06, and the doctors tell me that I'm to young. I'm 40 now and was 35 when the troubles started. I was using Meloxicam for a while, then a lot of Ibuprofen for quite some time. Neither seemed to help me much. Now I've been on Lexapro for a few months, which seems to help with the pain better then the others. But there are still days when it is almost useless. I've also started having issues with my hips and ankles. Bill LOL!

My wife had an issue with a crushed/bulging disk in her lower back pinching the sciatic nerve about 6-7 years ago. The doctors made her go through all kinds of rehab before they finally decided to get an MRI done. They found the budging disk pinching the nerve and performed surgery to relieve the pressure. It turned out that the rehab had just made things worse and by the time they performed the surgery, there was permanent damage done to the nerve. If they would've just done the MRI from the start, things would be much better for her now. Most of her issues have now gone away except for some numbness in her foot. Live Long & Prosper, Bill

here's what you'll be looking for when you come to pick up the Honda. There is no way to attach pics to a PM, so this was the next best thing I also PM'd you my address. Good Luck, Bill

I kind of doubt it. I would think it would help the engine breath better. But not so much better that the carbs would need a lot of adjusting. But then I'm not an exhaust engineer either. Bill

So, a man walks into the service department...
a1bummer replied to Dave77459's topic in Watering Hole
Your a better man than I am Dave. I would've been rattling a whole lot of cages a long time ago. your whole situation reminds me of a bunch of big high school bullies kicking around a grade schooler for his milk money simply because they weren't satisfied with just his lunch money. It seems as though the old mentality of "the customer is always right", (which is something I never really agreed with anyway), is long gone. And now the attitude of far to many businesses seems to be to take advantage of the customer however they can. JMHO, Bill P.S. I hope the work they're doing for you keep you on the road for many thousands of miles to come. -
I have a couple of the 20% off coupons I got out of Car & Driver from the lobby at the Dr.'s office. I don't remember if there were any of those specific coupons though. When I got my lift from them, it was on sale for $299 already w/out a coupon. They looked at me funny when I had them put the crate on the trailer behind my bike though for some reason. It works good for what I needed it for. I've been having troubles with a degenerative joint disease bothering my hips, knees, and ankles. My back also goes out now and then due to poor lower body mechanics if I'm not careful. I wish I had gotten the one with air over hydrolic assist though, and bigger wheels on the front would help. My knees don't always work so good pumping that pedal. I also added a couple eye bolts to the front corners for more securing points. The locking system could be better as well. But it does work. I also learned quickly that I don't want to actually ride the bike up onto it. And once the bike was secured, I had to get creative to get it on the center-stand. A better wheel locking system up front to make sure the bike stays upright while it's being strapped down would be nice as well.I'm thinking about one of those automatic locking wheel-chocks would do the trick. But all-in-all, I don't have to kneel or squat and break my back anymore. And that was my main goal. Bill

LOL... Seeing as how I was only 13 when my bike was made, I don't have any of the paperwork from the dealer. But I did manage to find two blanks for $8.49 on ebay from p-motorsports. I'll just have to take them to the local hardware store to have them cut. It will still be cheaper than going anywhere else for them. Bll
-
Yup, that's the same blank for my 84VR. But the 86 Maxim key is the mirror image of it. Bill

Do we have any locksmiths here? It seems as though I remember a while back that we had a member or two who could cut us some keys. I ran all over the place looking for someone who could make a couple duplicate keys for my Maxim and the kids scooter locally. Not even any of the steelerships could cut a cycle key. I have the keys in hand and I'm assuming they can be made if the locksmith has the number stamped on them? Even if I can just get the blanks would be nice. Then I could take them to the local hardware store to have them cut. Thanks, Bill

Is it to stop the wedgies? Which in itself would take care of a few things. No more getting caught by all those surveillance cameras picking out said wedgie, keep your grundies cleaner longer so you can get a couple more days out of them, thus helping the environment by not using up as much hot water. Bill

I like that idea as well as the rear camera. Bill
