This 86 has 97K on it but runs fair. It needs lots of tlc, steering head bearings, new rear tire, seat repair, etc. It pulls strong into the triple digits no slippage of clutch and brakes are good. All or part of it have to go.In the next 30 days I'm going to decide what to do with it. 1. sell it outright 2. part it out 3. partial part it out. lighten it up significantly and see what a rat venture looks like.I have a 89 engine with only 15k on it. I could install it just to see how it runs. This 86 still sounds good with 97K. 4. Buy some duct tape and run it. I bought this one last spring to part out. My brother wanted to try it out so he licensed it and rode it some last summer. He decided he was to short for it and has a problem with crossing my creek. Not many know how to surf on a first gen. Any ideas on what to do with it? No input from REDNECK either.:rotf:

My cold weather project. Drink coffee, surf internet, drink coffee, surf internet.:rotf:

I can think of a few places around here that could use a little heat. Nobody hurt of course. Then again? Hmmmmmm!

Now I remember why I sold the Vmax. I used to ride a bonneville to high school. I'm thinking get that cabin up on the other side of the creek. Then a garage and one of these. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2006models/2006-Triumph-RocketIII-Classic.htm

Hoping to have The log cabin done and property paid for before retirement. Now who has my lucky power ball numbers?
-
I got another 10 years before retirement. Riding time on the weekend only with a few planned trips. Might get in more if I could get the creek to cooperate.

Several G2 owners weighing in on this thread. Must be secret admirers of the first gen. Good boots for a good bike.:rotf:

Loaded question isn't it boys. The truth is you can't have everything in just one. The 84 is my first choice in a solo machine. What a work horse. I enjoy a day out by myself cruising through the mountains. The 84 has quicker throttle response and remove those bags for a noticeable increase in performance. What a twisties machine. My 89 loaded with all the toys is our two up machine for those local meet n eats and weekend outings. Both machines have less then 30K each and will last for years to come.

If you had your choice to buy a low mileage first gen what would it be? Some love the 83-85 models with 1200 engine and removable bags. Others like the 86-93 models, larger bags,1300 engine, with all the royal bells and whistles. I have both and there great bikes. A low mileage first gen is a great find.

Dog it was good talking to you last night. We got a good deal on our voyager. I bought the scoot, voyager, and trailer as a package deal ebay. Some here say I stole it. After our maiden voyage to florida last year and after 3000 miles of experience the voyager is great.I have two other first gens. Having a spare bike for the twisties and solo riding is a great benefit. My concern was if the voyager would get in and out of my driveway? No problems. Peace of mind is what the voyager is all about. For stability, pay load, towing, riding two up on those week long outings, braking control, etc makes it the first bike out. Now don't get me wrong my first love is a good first gen but I'm spoiled on the voyager for towing. I haven't let momamo ride it yet. Told her I wanted to check it out first to make sure it was safe for her. She is getting mad I've had it for 6 months.:rotf:

Current thinking on best oil filter
FROG MAN replied to Z Factor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
First gen filters are hard to find. I buy mine from Tractor Supply. The second gen uses same filter as my atv's. The only in stock supply locally is either Napa or Fram. I have run both no problems so far. Walmart does not stock the super tech filter.Rotella synthetic in everything. -
We need 7 more members to reach 4000. Now we know who is buying all the first gens. Welcome aboard!:rotf:

Effective date 10/08 looks like they want to push it through. If your gonna ride in florida better buy a slow second gen.Whats next or Who?

Don't forget about the laws of physics. When riding two up we are increasing the bikes center of gravity. Forward motion inertia causes more weight transfer to the rear. Sometimes riding two up I can put 100 % or 1200 lbs on the rear tire. It's called riding a wheelie on a first gen.:rotf::rotf::rotf:

Hope your not working outside. Neat pictures.

I ordered me one of those digital game cameras. Got an inexpensive model as I figured none where bullet proof. Now to catch a thief. I figure I got a shot at that local $1500 reward for info. I could buy another first gen with that. Ahhh I hope it's not family I catch.:rotf::rotf:Yammer Dan you got any vacancies down there?

Thanks wizard. If Metzler recommends varying the pressure with load makes one wonder about the other mfg. The tire I blew on the rsv rear was a new metzler.
