Bargin Battery
FROG MAN replied to FROG MAN's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
$42 for a venture battery is an excellent price. Maybe I should shop around. 5 years is probably max life for any of them.I would rather replace it early then get stuck waiting for a jump somewhere. -
Squirrel gravy with biscuits starting to sound good.

Bargin Battery
FROG MAN replied to FROG MAN's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I could probably extend my battery life to 4 or maybe 5 years by regular charging. Maybe I should buy a battery tender.More riding time would be good for battery life to. Just no time and when I do have time that creek doesn't cooperate.I'm lucky to get 6-8K of riding a year between 3 scoots. -
Shotgun was tempting several times this weekend. I keep a loaded Mossberg 500 at the camp. MamaMo gets pissed when I start blowing holes in things. It's okay if she does it shooting a possums but not for me?

It's time to replace the battery in the 89. I do a battery replacement every three years buying one a year. The 84 got one last year and the 99 gets one next year. Battery life is usually over three years but this is part of my maint schedule. My choice has been to find a bargin battery. I have tried various offerings from Walmarts powermax, Tractor supplies champions, Kmart sells the sears die hard reasonable. I really have no complaints with any of them. $55 for a battery is not a bad price and no shipping charges or driving out of my way $$$ to find one. I know the Oddysey 680mj is probably the number one choice among riders and I understand the extra CCA it has. Also no Oddysey dealers anywhere in WV. Is it really worth with shipping three times the price? Can I expect 9 years of service instead of 3. Most of my riding is above 50 degrees so cold weather starting is not an issue. My next question is has anybody tried one of the maint free AGM batteries?

All I done was fire up the wood stove at the camp and the party started. Pitter patter of many feet dancing in the attic. Nuts rolling across the floor, chatter of conversation. I thought it might be Saturday night bowling in the camp attic. Then I read that February is the annual mating season of the flying squirrel. Ramona and I watched a movie about pissed off squirrels doing a little nut cracking of a different type. Not sure now about smoking them out in the spring.Flying squirrels eat meat to so at least they keep the insects down.Another thing about that old house. I have never seen any sign of mice.Still that upstairs attic gets noisy when the party starts.

Good luck with the Kenda's. Most members here are Avon fans. I have never run Avons. Cooper tire owns both Kenda and Avon so not sure how much difference there is.

Sorry to here the news. Every thing is OK here.I just got phone and internet back.I been out of town working on moving a 911 center then the storm hit. I worked two days just restoring critical communications for 911.Now to access our own infrastructure damage but that can wait till Monday. First gens stacked up like cord wood. Heartbreaking I tell just Heartbreaking.Dan you need a shelter with reinforced concrete for those scoots.Hope you get the roof fixed.

A great day yesterday. I got the new stove installed. A local friend had some seasoned firewood for sale cheap so I bought a load.I got it up to 80 last night. Turned on the TV,kicked back in the lazy boy and fell asleep. NOW THATS CAMPING!:rotfl:

Not many first gens or seconds in WV. I can't remember ever seeing one. I sold my kz750 when I brought MamaMo home.Hard to keep a wife and a scooter on $5.00 an hr in 81.After 24 years with no scooter I went to look at a wing. That was a big mistake the thing was trashed.I wanted a low budget cruiser to hone my riding skills and not wanting to drop a new one crossing that creek. I decided to buy myself one for my birthday in July of 05.Thats when I found on Ebay a 84 venture with only 17k. The bike had been in storage for 13 years. A doctor who had one just like it bought a second one when his riding buddy died of caner in 92.I said to myself what is this?I entered a low bid of $1200 my max budget for older cruiser. Thats when I found out it's 1100 miles to Mena Arkansas.I bought a rebuilt set of carbs and paid some A##hole $800 to paint a faded fender, install two new tires, and change the carbs.I went surfing for info on the venture and found this site and two other riders in WV.

What a bummer. Good luck with the scoot Thom.I hope the insurance company treats you right.

I enjoy that old house. I'm practicing the retired life on the weekends. At least I can dream about it but Monday is coming.

You were riding at 14 degrees?

Redneck I remember sleeping under a leanto in November with snow all around and half froze. I decided to move up a little. Squirrels on the porch and an 8 pt buck looking in the window. An old skunk keeps digging up MamaMo's cactus plants on the porch to. So it is still camping.

It looks like a nice weekend. I'm going to clean out the chimney flue in the camp living room and install that new wood stove tomorrow. Any luck at all and I'll be camping tomorrow night. MamaMo is already talking about planting roses and apple trees. I think spring is coming soon.I even thought about buying a new battery for the 89. Must be catching spring fever.Highs tomorrow close 60.

Yamaha's TW-200 anybody ever ride or see one. It might make a good putt putt for to and from the camp. 75 mpg fat tires and all. Small enough for MamaMo to ride and my 10 year old son is as tall as she is. I been looking for one just curious for now. Lots of back woods roads to explore from my camp.

I don't have time for this
FROG MAN replied to FROG MAN's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
Yep sent an attachment which she opened and printed out no problem. I don't think the other machine has anything. It may have been a coincidence but other people in our company have had crashes lately. -
I just went through our office managers PC. Installed all the latest Microsoft updates,AVG antivirus update,Spyware/Malware scan and reg clean, HDD defrag, and upgraded her ram. The machine has been running excellent for a week. I came back this evening and after she opened an email from another employee ZAP. All crap breaks loose. The Firewall is turned off,Windows update disabled,Antivirus disabled, Internet explorer won't run, and we can't connect to the internet. It does boot up normal but that is about it. I tried a system restore to a previous point but it won't allow that either. I think a bad virus has grabed it but I'll run a hdd utility in the morning. ANY Ideas or similar experiences?

MISS IT NO WAY! Cheesecake and Peanut butter pie Ladies wet T-Shirt contest ALL those Second Gen's needing repair. Who could miss that?

I can take the fact my driveway is iced up and still takes a 4x4 to get out. I can take the fact it's Feb 1 and the creek is running high. I can take the fact I got called out to work a few hours today but? What was that group of 4 Harley's doing out on the interstate? Acting like it was the fourth of July and I didn't feel like waving.
-
I took a nap at 8pm did I miss anything?
-
I might need it next week for snow removal.

I put 4 new tires on the wifes pickup today. I still had another 6-8000 miles of safe running on the old set but. The weather man is calling for back to back snow events all month for February.Better safe then sorry. Ramona still won't drive in snowy weather. I could buy her a D9 and she still wouldn't drive it in the snow.
