  1. I used @skydoc_17’s shim kit. He’s got the feeler gauges, picks to get the shims out easier, and the cam tool. I highly recommend having a kit like his to save tons of time. Instead of going through all 16 valves to figure out where to move shims I did each one as I went and then rolled it through again to double check each one.

  2. Kris and I have been talking about doing some landscaping clean up on the back side of our small, park like back yard. We got a couple estimates to remove some over grown and/or out of place pine trees and just generally clean up the layout. I was amazed at the $10,000.00+ prices! Today I decided to start on the job myself. I tackled one of the smaller, out of place blue spruce trees at the back of the lot. It was about 8" di. at the base and 25 feet or so tall. My Bauer(Harbor Freight) 18V 10" chain saw made short work of felling, limbing, and sectioning the evergreen. One 5Ahr battery still had 2/3 charge after it was all said and done. I'm thoroughly impressed with this inexpensive tool that I bought as a onetime use item for pruning a 40 year old apple tree last spring.

  3. I used RTV at the cam recesses. I didn’t replace the rubber plugs, I didn’t know about them when I did it. My rear cover has started seeping recently (30,000 miles later)but it’s gonna have to wait til next winter, although I’ve heard of some re-torquing the bolts and having good luck. There’s always been an argument whether to do the valves but like you I plan to keep it til either it’s worn out or I am so I invested the time, I took them close to the outer limit to try not going there again.

  4. I’ve got the tool that I could send you but do not have the shims.

  5. Not really newer but definitely not worn out. This one is for sale locally, he started out around $7k several months ago. I’m not looking for one but if the price keeps dropping I may have to. I just don’t want to start over since I’ve gone through mine and preemptively fixed all the known issues and added all the extras I wanted. And yes that is the correct mileage 6700.

  7. I am looking forward to a ride and lunch with you once I get moving again. The Ortho doctor says the break needs to be pinned so I am having surgery next Wednesday for him to put 2 screws in it. When we meet, we can compare scars and see who has the worst. 😁

  8. Another solution is to park by the Harleys, then no one will notice.
