  1. After 39 years of road maintenance, I get to hand my duties off to a new younger guy. The way it was looking I told Sharon that it looks like another winter of plowing snow and sanding icy roads. I had put my winter plan together and along came just the person we were hoping to find. He likes the work and lives a half a mile away from the Town shop. He went through his 60-day trial period and has done pretty good. Needs a little guidance and some more experience and I think he will do fine. I will still be doing some work running the road grader, He said he wanted to slowly work his way into it. So a few days a month I will go in and play around with the grader. And I can pick and choose the days. So now it's time to get to work on the house and get some hunting in and wait for it to snow and all I have to do is put some wood in the stove kick back and watch it fall. And it is going to feel good to know that I won't have to be up at 2:00 in the am to head out into the weather and head to work. Orlin

  2. We had something similar as a kid not sure it was sears or not. Had 2 sisters living on the same road and would mow all 3 lawns. When I was about 13 - 14 it stopped running. My dad looked at me and said the push mower worked. So it sat. each lot was about 1/2 acre and the houses were small 2 bedroom/1 bath ranches. Went from taking maybe a couple of hours to a large part of my Saturdays. I tried to fix it a couple of times with no luck because we could not afford the parts. What happens when I move out at 17, he fixes the darn thing. So glad I have YouTube university today.

  3. Temp today was 9c(48f) today when I went out for a 175klm(108mi) ride today. Stopped off to visit with @Marcarl while I was out but only stayed for about 20min as he had to go get some parts to fix his furnace in the shop. Same place I just came from(spent $80)Princess Auto! Left around 9am and got home around 7pm ! Went back to trying to get my new to me 1970's Sears SS16hp lawn tractor started. Fired up the other day then stopped. Turned key and got silence ,no clicking of solenoid or anything! Took all wire connections of and cleaned them, remounted solenoid after cleaning and testing but ran out of time and will finish trying tomorrow!

  4. There is a knuckle on that shaft on the other side of the cover bearing, so with no bearing to hold things in place the shaft will wiggle wherever it wants and seems to be broke.

  5. Its hard to tell by the picture but I am inclined to agree with @Chaharly. If memory serves me right, (which ain't so great these days ) thats just a through shaft supported by the cover and connects to another flex joint and linkage behind the cover. You should be good by simply replacing the cover. BTW I have worked and stripped down a lot of these old girls and this is the 1st one I have seen do this. What size boot do you wear LOL.

  7. Yes bleeding the conentional way will work though these bikes can sometimes not be as co-operative as when bleeding car brakes. Back bleeding by feeding the fluid under pressure in through the bleeder screw until the master. Is full is more effective. On many hydraulic systems I have worked on which includes cars, heavy trucks and tow motors as well as hydraulic clutches, I have found back bleeding is sometimes the only method that works and is also the quickest.
