  1. What's the mileage and where are the pictures of your new machine?? For what its worth, I joined this group 3 years ago, knowing almost nothing about working on motorcycles, after purchasing my 2007. With helpful guidance & encouragement from this group here, I worked through an issue on my bike (basically, gunked up carb from sitting too long). Well, lo & behold, after that experience of wrenching on the Venture, I discovered that I actually enjoyed working on motorcycles and this old dog set out to learning a few new tricks. Thanks to the immense wealth of knowledge about all things on the internet, I'm now on my 7th & 8th motorcycle projects in the last few years, learning more with each project. All have been Japanese bikes, with low mileage (except one) that had been sitting for years (30 years in one case). A couple were parked long ago for other reason's that I had to sort out, along with the resurrection process. With all that said, here's my advice and the first thing I do when I get a new project home: Give the bike a good bath and do a quick polish up on the side you first see when walking into your garage. It may sound silly, but seeing what it will look like, or close to it, as the first step keeps me motivated to keep going on the rest of it.

  2. So far I only have a couple of battery operated tools. When they get everyone converted over to battery powered everything, the new power plants that will have to be built and added to the rate base will double the cost of electricity. No one is going to save money with battery powered. I don't understand the rationale. Currently, there is 0.04% carbon dioxide in the air. That is 4 parts per 10,000. If it gets below 0.02% plants begin to die. Is 0.04% such a problem? I saw a video about how much greener the earth is now from the extra carbon dioxide... All of the climate disaster predictions so far have been way off base. So, I'm really confused about the whole push for electric everything.

  3. Welcome to the club. I had mine done last year and never in my life could I see so far and so clear and with so much detail. My 1st discovery was that trees had individual leaves they weren't just all green like a kids coloring book. I always had the fear if I lost my glasses whether on the motorcycle out on a horse or backpacking and/or canoeing the back country that I would be in what heck of a bind. Not any more.

  4. I'm in thee early stages of looking at new mowers. I now have a Woode Mow'n Machine with a 61" front deck and a Kawasaki engine. It's several years old now but hopefully won't need to replace it in the very near future but my wife mentioned that I should start thinking about it and If I need to replace it, should do it while I'm still working. Anyway, I started looking at what is available and ran across a DR Power electric zero turn with a 60" deck. You can buy it with one, two, or three batteries. I'm sure that for the size of my yard, it would require the three batteries to get it done with one charge. Now here's what puzzles me. They say that the electric mower will save an average of $10.00 per mowing vs. a gas motor. That's all well and good. They also say that there is a 5 year or 1000 hour warranty on the batteries and based upon my limited experience with these battery powered tools, that is about all you will get out of them. OK....so say that they last 5 years. The batteries are $1500.00 each. So in 5 years I have to spend $4500.00 to replace the three batteries. Based on my calculations, I would use about $1300.00 worth of gas and oil with my gas mower over 5 years. So how is this electric mower cheaper to operate? Do these manufacturers just hope that we don't do the math?

  5. Thanks everyone! Looks like I don't have to have a scavenger hunt after all! As soon as my clutch slave cylinder comes in, I can have the oil ready to go and get back out there. Always appreciate the help for y'all!

  7. Well, my wife got me thinking about a new mower but after a little consideration, I really don't need one. I currently have a front deck Woods Mow 'n Machine. 22 HP Kawasaki motor, 61" front deck with power lift, etc. It's been, and still is, a good mower. I like the front deck as opposed to mid mounted because it allows me to get under all the evergreen trees we have that are low to the ground. I thought I would like to have a new Ferris FX800 front deck but have found that they were discontinued. There are very few options for a front deck system, Grasshopper and Walker seem to be the biggest players but they are very expensive. Then I started looking at used but nearly new ones. My Woods only as about 575 hours on it and most of the used ones have 1200 to 2500 hours on them and they are still asking around 10,000 and up for them. So, I figure if those are lasting over 2000 hours, mine with 575 hours should last a LONG time yet. So I'll take a ltttle better care of and hopefully it will last as long as I need it.

  10. Hey Scotty, I know this isn't much help, but my vendor can still get these springs new. It would be $125.00 plus whatever the shipping would be to Canada from the USA. (+/- $35.00US wild guess) Hanging out with the Kanucs on a weekend doesn't sound like a bad idea to me, but I'll talk to just about anybody! Let mr know if I can help! Earl.

  11. Just an update, got everything put back together. Did very minor adjustments on the float height but had two of those rubber plugs on the jet blocks almost totally pushed out. Thanks to cimmer for mentioning that, need to synch the carbs and take it for a run to see if I find any improvement!

  12. Lisa and I (and the Pomeranians) took the motorhome to a friends farm for the weekend. Had a great time. Old friends, a campfire and a cooler of beer...what's not to like? Anyways, we're driving the motorhome home yesterday around lunchtime, and we're on a 2 lane, 55mph country road and I see an oncoming car ahead, and I notice him roll down the drivers window and hang his hand out...strange, but ok......Then, as we're passing, he lobs a frozen bottle of water at us, breaking a headlight and cracking the surrounding plastic. We're in a motorhome, with no easy turn around, so nothing I could do but keep rolling. So, what did this person get out of that...What triumph was there.... WTF is wrong with people? 😠
