  1. We had an HR manager that liked to use that line. I invited her to ride a fire truck for a few days to see if she still believed it. She declined. Many accidents are caused by complacency or carelessness but some can’t be foreseen.

  2. We 'all' seem to look for joy and peace at this time of year, it's on signs, in cards, on TV and the radio. Interesting enough it still seems hard to find. We go to the stores and buy what might be figured to get the perfect item only to find out it is the wrong brand, or not big enough or too large to fit, could even be the wrong color. We load up with food just to find out that we throw a lot out and that was a waste of money. We plan to fly somewhere but discover that the planes are all grounded. So where is that joy and peace that everyone talks about. Hey!! it's Christmas, a season to celebrate. Celebrate WHAT? Try celebrating the first part of Christmas, the part that says Christ. We do, we haven't given any presents at Christmas for 52 years or more, but spend time to find out what real peace and joy is/are. We eat well and visit when/where possible, but do spend time to visit with the One who the celebration should be all about, for then we have peace in our hearts and joy in our lives for we have a grand future. May you all find the peace and joy that is yours for the asking and once you know it, share it with others. Best part is: it's free and once you have it nobody can take it away.

  3. I agree with your comments. I just remember when I took my beginners riding course many years ago, the instructor was an older gentleman probably about as old as I am now. He said that he had been riding for about 50 years and had never had an accident. He said that all accidents were preventable as long as you watch out for yourself. I understand that all accidents are preventable if EVERYBODY does their part but that's not what he said. Sometimes you can do everything right and still be involved in an accident. Hey, that's just the way life is. We can only do all that we can and hope for the best. I've read a number of stories where people were sitting in their living room or sleeping in their bed when a car crashed through their house or even an airplane crashed into their house. Not ALL accidents are preventable by YOU or me.

  4. Anyone who has spent more than a minute or two with Freebird knows what kind of man he is. For those members who have not had the honor of meeting Don, I want to tell you, he is the best of them. I met Don first several years ago at his annual maintenance day get together and have seen him and Eileen a few times at other MDs. He's the kind of guy that can include everyone in his conversations and still seem to focus on YOU. This is a rare quality and one that follows through into every thing I have seen or heard about Don. A few weeks ago my wife suffered a serious heart attack and has been hospitalized since. I contacted Don to see how much it would cost to install a stair lift and was surprised at the price, in a good way. It was far less than I expected, though still out of my budget when the hospital bills started rolling in. I later asked for some advice regarding buying one of the many used stair lifts on Craig's List. He gave me some things to look for and warned me off of one that was out dated and, probably unserviceable. A few hours later he called me and told me not to buy anything, he had a used unit that he would let me have and install it for me and Kris. It turns out this "used unit" might have had some of the parts unboxed but had never been installed. Don came out and installed the lift yesterday, I am glad I took his advice as I would have still been working on it today had I done it myself. Once again, Thank you Don for your friendship and for everything you do here and everywhere else. The world is a better place with you in it.

  5. I have been blessed many ways in my life. Though I will never be a rich man monetarily, I feel blessed when I able to help and give back. It was my pleasure to help out.

  6. Good news! Kris is off all sedation and the ventilator and the heart and lung machine. She was experiencing ICU Delirium yesterday but the doctors think she'll get better with time off of the sedatives.
