I've already got my 9 year old driving (he sits on my lap me keeping my foot near the brake) in car parks and when we move our cars around to get out of the driveway. He helps me with jobs on the bike (including doing almost everything under instruction on my RSV clutch change) One of my main aims with him is to instill into him, you have to work to get anything, including getting a driving licence (or drivers license 😀). (I also want him to be at least mildly mechanicly competent)

Hey Graham, Congrats on your new GL1500! You are STILL welcome to hang around, we won't mind! The lesson to be learned, and to be carried over to your NEW GL1500 is "if you can't get Ethanol free gas in the UK, then you need to treat that gas with Sea Foam or other additive to keep the Petrol from separating from the Alcohol". Those Honda Carbs. are a bit trickier to get unstuck then the Yamaha Carbs. Good luck with your new scoot, Earl

I did the same with all my kids including the girls and I taught them all how to drive stick.

View from the UK. We have a cut off date for sale of ICE cars of 2030. And now this consultation on ending ICE bikes by 2035. The truth is we will not be ready. There is no real infrastructure plan. The likelihood is an extension till 2035 on cars. Personal opinion is I can see small bikes (what we call A1) being electric with some A2 specific (up to 33bhp - built to be for the A2 licence) being included in a 2035 electric change. Unfortunately, we have a government* that talks an awful lot about what it's going to do but never actually puts any plans into action. (*not that we actually have a government at the moment as we wait for a new Prime Minister to be elected)

I bought it last year (the 1500) .... and it has been the biggest nightmare in my motorcycle life 😪. I've had it stripped (carbs off) once already, to replace the notorious 90° pipe under the carbs. She's currently sat idle till I have time to strip it down again (carb clean).

Agreed. The 777HD has the ride comfort and stickiness of the 230 but built for heavier bikes. I'm about to put another 777 on the RSV rear. It's time. I don't mind the price of the Commanders, but their wet handling is not what I want. The hard compound is great for some... But I want the ride and weather capability only a softer compound can give.

When the younger people like to call us uneducated I like to remind them that the owners manuals used to have information on how to remove, set or work with various aspects of maintenance on a our cars. The you look at their owners manuals and it says not to drink the battery acid.

Ha. When I took my youngest to get her license there was a man and wife to test. They were from another country here for college. He passed, she left with the examiner, 5 minutes later they were back with the examiner driving. My kids had to pass my test first that was much harder than the state’s. My kids drove in storms, on ice, interstates, and cities while on their permits. I cut too many people out of wrecks to take it easy on em.
