  1. Wife n I got in a 100 miler Saturday, left it set Sunday to do a little fishing. Rode into work today to enjoy these cool fall mornings. I’ll ride until early November, put her up for the winter break that we call deer season (16 days) then hopefully find enough warm winter days to keep it exercised.

  3. I have no issue using the battery tender on my AGM Battery as it only chargers when needed because it monitors battery voltage. Before I got the battery tender I used one of those timers you just plug into the wall outlet and plugged a cheap 2 amp trickle charger to it, which I left hooked to the bike all winter. I then set the timer to turn the trickle charger on for an hour each day. It work great.

  4. They should all move the same and dampen at the same rate.

  5. Getting the slide and diaphragm out is easy. Inspect the suspect diaphragm for pin holes/tears. If it looks good, inspect the slide for rough spots and cracks. If that looks good, put it all back together and synchronize the carbs. Then see what you have.

  7. Tank was half full so I filled it the rest of the way with ethanol free gas...put a half a can of Seafoam in it. Went for a quick ride to get the Seafoam into the carbs then shut off the fuel valve to let the carbs run out the gas....when she started sputtering I shut her down. Put her into the climate controlled shed. (8 X 14 Pump shed has a dehumidifier in it and I keep it heated to 45 degrees)...Both my Ventures live there. Other bikes stay in the unheated garage / shed. Put the cover on her, and that should be it until Mid-Winter, when I'll put a charger on it for an hour or so.

  8. UncleDJ, I just bought a 2006 5th wheel camper. The battery was dead. Checked it out and found it was boiled dry. The converter (120VAC to 12VDC) was bad putting out nearly 18 volts. I guess the PO was pretty lucky he didn't burn it down. You might want to check your d/c output if you plug into an a/c electric box.

  9. There is no such thing as asking too many questions because we all love to help were we can. Nor need you feel too dumb about these bikes since you can only get smarter and more knowledgeable about these bikes, through the more than willing help and advice of the membership. The main reason this site was formed was to share knowledge that is unavailable through other means, even bike shops do not have the knowledge this site has. There is a side effect however which I am sure was unforeseen by the founder of this site. You run the risk of forming strong off line friendships. You will find the members here are not just on line friends as many of us have formed strong in person friendships through rally's, meet and eats and meet and greets. Some of have formed friendships as far back as 15 years or more through this site and some of those friendships are still going strong to this day. Many members that live close enough together, help each other and that often includes newbies. The monitors here do a fantastic job in keeping this site in a PG state, clean and free of foul language and hurtful comments and any subject that gets too controversial to were it starts to turn ugly is shut down. All in all this site sets a high standard not seen in many other forums.

  10. Ladies & Gentlemen of the Venture world I am more than blown away already from this group . The first 2 responses to my barrage ( I truly am sorry about the question bomb ) have given me more information than i have ever received as a newbie on a site this seems like a good community to be part of for sure . I am all ears ( well eyes online ) an eager to learn the ways of this Majestic V4 steed ........ I still am in shock it is an 1984 model and only as of my purchase had 9,657 miles original so with proper maintenance I would think it will last a very long while . I am about to head out on the road I do lower 48 state pet transport so my online time will be sporadic but I will be reading an trying to learn as much as I can from everyone ....Thank you for the very warm welcome I am truly looking forward to owning this bike Matt

  11. UPDATE: well the camera unit mounted in the trunk contains a “built in” mic, but that doesn’t help much. All I’d get is some engine sound and rear speaker music. Fortunately it had an AV jack for an external microphone. I did some research and found a small waterproof mic, mounted it in a perfect place “no wind noise” cockpit. The cockpit acts like a reflector to pick up voice comms, some engine sound and of course music. Perfect blend! Here’s the final results. It’s the black center dot. I think it looks factory and you’d never notice it unless it was pointed out. Of course now that everything is recorded, I have to watch my “road rage” verbiage! 🤣

  12. Stared at it woefully. Between a major cellulitis infection that resulted in some flesh removal from my leg and time spent 1st on two portable IV units. Then from that I went on to what they call negative pressure wound therapy which I call attaching a small portable shop vac to my leg then on to cataract surgery in one eye with the other eye due to be done the end of this month I got one ride in, in June. BTW I would post pictures of the excavation site but I would not want half the membership to recycle their dinner on to their keyboard. Yes they let me take pictures as they worked. It was interesting to watch.
