  1. What a great childhood I was fortunate enough to have. Lived in the suburbs of Y-town, Public swimming pool, playground and a class B ballpark across the street. My first job, at age 7 was chasing the foul balls that went backwards over the bleachers for $1.00 a night....That paid for entrance to the pool and gas in my mini-bike....30 acres of woods 2 blocks away that we'd all play in...friend and I would ride the mini-bikes there.... After school, and all Summer, parents wouldn't see us except for meals. Great group of friends that I'm still close to today. Went riding up to the cabin with a few of them a couple of weeks back. You just can't replace old friends. I can remember standing at their screen door and calling out their name to come out and play. Did some informal baseball, football and basketball at the park, but was more interested in the woods and what dad was doing in the garage. Parents took us to the cabin (Same place we just rode to,....same place...new cabin that my brother and I built with Dad in the early 90s)...went at least 3 times every Summer......and yes....I still drink from the stream behind the cabin..... Thanks for helping me reminisce. Good times.

  2. Got Black Cherry cleaned up after the recent trip to camp. Road down to cabin is REALLY bad, meaning that I had to do some mud running to get to / from cabin. Washed, waxed, half a can of Sea Foam in the tank, and ran most of the gas out of the carbs, covered, then put into climate controlled storage. (Pump shed has heat and a dehumidifier running) Gonna try to get out a couple of times again this year, but life sometimes gets in the way, so I figured I'd better have her prepared for a long rest.

  3. The '83 is far more snappy out of the hole than the Gen 2. The '83 is by far the fastest, most nimble bike of the family and, one might even argue, of it's class across the board. However, the Gen2 is far from a pig. It should out perform any but the top performance HDs. Is your engine bogging on the hole shot or is your clutch slipping? Clutch slippage is a universal problem with the stock Gen2 and there are a few clutch upgrade kits available. Skydoc_17 sells a great clutch upgrade kit at a competitive price. There is also a Barnett kit out there. I'd start by verifying you are firing on all 4 cylinders then a carb sync.

  4. Or -- if the squelch is turned all the way down the slightest CB signal even if it is only a silent carrier wave will cause the radio to cut out since CB takes priority The higher you set your squelch the stronger the CB signal needs to be to over ride your radio or just turn the CB off.

  5. Did you check the squelch on the cb? If the cb is on, the squelch setting will mute the radio if a strong cb signal comes through. Mentioning cause I learned this myself years back. Had me going for a while. But since you've had the scoot for years, I doubt that ...but wanted to mention just in case! 😁

  6. Refrigeration is certainly less physically intense than framing or loading roofs!👷‍♂️ Unfortunately, I wind up doing new construction as much as service and quite often end up hand carrying insulated box panels and muscleing 200+ lb. condensing units up stairs and the like.

  8. The Zen of motorcyling has no room for a loud primary whine if you have it. HD mufflers or earplugs aren’t a solution. I’d be embarrassed to sell to the deaf. 3 baskets later. Help me find the fittings.

  10. Opened up the fairing this weekend to install an LED headlight bulb and fix my passing lamps. The fuse for my passing lamps looked good, but the fuse holder wasn’t closing tight enough to make good contact, so I wired in a new blade type fuse holder that I had in the tool box and while I was at it I added a few extra inches of wire so I could run the fuse to the rear opening of the fairing by the triple trees. Now if the fuse blows I don’t have to split the fairing to replace it. IMG_1411.MOV

  11. If it got hot we stopped at the nearest house and drank from the hose. Nobody ran us off from that. Drank from the creeks too, no telling what was in that water. Maybe that’s why I have a strong immunity.

  12. We have neighborhood kids that are outside a lot playing ball in the street. When it gets to hot they all hide inside. We didn't care what the temperature was when I was kid in Northern Ohio, we were outside all the time. BTW I always did my homework during class and never took a book home until college just so I could be outside, working or riding.

  13. No kidding kids today are more sophisticated but in my mind what they consider as fun does not even come close to the fun we had as kids in the 50's and 60's. When is the last time you saw a kid climb a tree grinning from ear to ear catch mice or frogs with their bare hands. or a group of kids get together and completely on their own organize an impromptu game of football, baseball, soccer or street hockey. wonder off into the bush and build forts. Someone once said I was happier being 20 in the sixties than sixty in the twenties. I one time scampered up the face of a set of storage racks to toss down eight 11R-22 truck tires. the 30 year old on the ground stunned after saying it could not be done asked how is it a 65 year old guy like you can climb like that. My simple answer was I grew up climbing real trees not virtual trees.
