  1. Hello Forum. I purchased a new ClearView winshileld with vent for my ride a couple of months ago. It finally came in and I got around to putting it on this afternoon. To say it gives a much better view that the short one with the plastic chrome strip around the top is an understatement. I like a tall winshield with a vent for more protection from rain and this fits the bill. I did have one little scare while I was riding this evening. A buzzard flew up ahead of me so I hit the brakes pretty hard and got slowed down some. It was above my head and then suddenly dropped down right in front of the headlight. I was still doing about 35 when I hit it so it was a solid impact. Thankfully neither the fairing or the winshield were damaged so it was a good ride. Steve

  2. Dad, I promise to stop being a problem child, but the bad jokes voice in my head is hard to stop sometimes... And I agree, cool place to hangout, learn, help, laugh, etc. Thankful to all the foremembers here.

  4. Sorry, Patch. Got my days mixed up. The ladies don't know what they're missing I"m sure! I literally just watched that video a few nights ago! Very helpful for guys like me. He's the kind of person I see nearly everyone on this forum being like... brainiac's especially when it comes to bikes! I've always been told to surround myself with people who are more intelligent or more advanced in what area you have an interest in and this forum surely has it!!! Y'all are great and enjoy the camaraderie. Looking forward to the time when I can give back!

  5. For kinky guys like myself that enjoy fooling with combustion and have spent in excess of 10gs on a single experiment I have had my share of wins and losses. I found this video looking for simple demonstration of the dynamics at play when charging a combustion cycle. The CV carbs are much more complex but the principles at play remain. We have some threads here where we dive into fluid dynamics CV carbs..... Just one other comment: Today we can choose to not use a throttle plate to control air/fuel charges. This in turn causes other effects such as decreasing vacuum but that decrease also lowers piston drag making for quicker response and more energy delivered to the crank. Has a lot to do with the HP/torque ratings we can achieve with smaller displacements. Now you know what I know;) Show the vid to the kids

  6. Brought the RSV home from Phoenix. Yes, I put it on a trailer! Shame on me...right? Nah...when it's 110 degrees, I'm not riding without air conditioning. And no, 130 degree air blasting back at me at 75mph is not AC! Now that she's in the garage, which is insulated, I can work on her at my leisure. Right now, though, trying to make room for youngest kidlet and boyfriend...coming back into town to get her Master's. Bringing cat and boyfriend. Will stay here until they find a place in Tucson. So won't get much done while I visit with them. But nice to have RSV home!

  7. Yaknow new members like you, problem child 1968 and others make this club a cool hangout. Unfortunately no chicks swept me off my feet Saturday night so I made it home relatively early; tho I was feeling somewhat like Kris singing Sunday Mornin.... Well good onya The brake peddle sounds like a week return spring and some lube needed on the bush the peddle pivots around.

  11. Did you loose the 'washer spacer' that sits inside and flush with the wheel? Did you install the large washer in the proper sequence?

  13. Coil pack failures are less common then you may think as are TCI's. Ninety percent of the time the issue can be traced back to faulty or corroded wires and/or connectors. Having said that my favorite means of diagnosing is to start out by keeping things simple , rather than trying to get overly sophisticated (which can be overwhelming for some). Pull the plug wire If you do not have a spark tester (which are cheaply purchased at most any auto parts sources) insert a small screwdriver that will stay in place and than holding the shaft of the screw driver about 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch away from the engine block crank the engine a good spark should jump from the shaft of the screwdriver to the engine block. If not go to step 2 Remove the plug caps from the plug wire and check resistance through the cap. Place one probe of the ohmmeter into the wire end and one into the plug end. You should get a reading of about 10k ohms. If not replace. Remove and inspect all the connectors involved with the ignition system, specially the ones going to the TCI.. Even barely noticeable corrosion can be a source of electrical issue. Heavy green corrosion is easily noticed but if you look closely at the terminals you may notice what looks like a thin white or light green powder like coating on the terminals (this is known as fretting ) which believe it or not can interfere with good electric conductivity. Clean this terminals up as best you can (thin slivers of sandpaper wrapped over the end of a tiny screw driver or other very thin and tiny metal object combined with a good electrical cleaner are most effective here. To prevent further corrosion spray with something like ACF50 (my personal favorite available through some bike shops and amazon) or thin coating of dielectric grease. If you still don't have spark than you need to get into checking voltages and coil resistance. Check the red black wire at each coil. With ign switch on you should have 12 volts follow the checks in the attached PDF ign system chk 96 -2001.pdf

  14. Hi all, just want to say thankyou to everyone who has put the work Into this site. So thankful for all of you people and really proud to be a member. My grandpa left behind a 1987 yamaha venture royale 16 years ago and bike had sat for 15 years. After lots of monkeying around with the bike and messing with carbs I have got bike going and love it. I had been working on and rding sport bikes up until now and have so much appreciation for this bike.i am up in london Ontario canada so if there are any members in the area, would love to connect. Also would like to do some decent trips on bike when getting it running even better, I have been using this site for lots of information and it has helped me get to where I am at today with this bike, I owe you guys who have all taken the time to create this website
