  1. I have a 2008 Royal Sar Venture with 39k. I always wanted a motorcycle to ride on the weekends but not a crotch rocket. This is my first big bike that I own but I will tell you it definitely is the most comfortable one I have ridden on.

  2. Make sure it is neutral than locate the start solenoid left of the battery. Bridge the two big terminals on the solenoid (this bypasses all the safe guards and switches etc involved with the starter circuit) and you are putting power directly from the battery to the starter. If the starter still will not crank you likely have a bad starter or a bad ground. If it does crank over than you should be able to ride the bike home. Then you need to check all switches wiring and relays related to the starting circuit.

  4. If anybody is interested, here are my notes on converting from incandescent headlights to LED. I ordered a set from LED Factory Mart. Info: 2005 Royal Star Tour Deluxe. So here is obviously your staring point. There is a screw on either side of the main headlight assembly. Remove the main headlight plug. Remove the rubber housing. Undo the spring bar. This will take a bit of effort. Before you remove the two long screws found a 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock you may want to take note of approximately how much of each one is screwed in. These also act as the aiming adjustments. You will still need to re-aim your light after you are complete anyways. Here is the inside of my driving lights before making any modifications. The LED 4" lights I ordered came with a very nice plug assembly but there wasn't enough room in the bucket to keep it. I had to cut it off and wire in directly. It will be a tight fit to get the 4" lights back in the bucket. When lining up the main headlight to go back in the housing note that if you line it up with this screw at the top it will not be centered. That screw is a bit off of 12 o'clock. Finished project.

  6. Yes it should start stand up, in gear, clutch pulled. Switch is at end of lever, it should start in neutral regardless of clutch switch. Same with side stand.

  8. The gauge on an 84 and in reality all 1st gens tend to run towards the hotter side. In reality they're not a very accurate gauge. Unless it buries itself, that sounds about normal. Make sure the coolant is topped off and the radiator is clean between the fins and run it a bit.

  11. Cleaned out the old system, gave it away and installed this Pyle unit on dark polycarbonate sheet cut to size. I used a rotary tool to remove the mounts for the old system. Mounted the bracket and hooked it up. I stream music from the phone but also use a USB drive with over 4000 songs.

  12. Is that because they don't have to bend over as far to clean the oil stains on the garage floor?

  13. While I’m thinking about it I recently took the basic rider course sponsored by Harley Davidson and they took us on a tour of there dealership. Upstairs were sales and parts and clothing and accessories. Downstairs was service with 4 techs who had all 4 bays with bikes on lifts so what’s different about Harley than Yamaha ? They were working on old bikes and new.

  15. Funny. When I first got my 05 RSV.... It took 2 calls to find a dealer to handle an oil change and check out. The 2nd Yamaha dealer had a mechanic that knew the Ventures. I took it in. All the shop guys stood around ooohing and awwing the bike. The older mechanic smiled and took it in shop. I came back after lunch in time to see my bike go screaming past me. Check out ride after service! The mechanic gave my bike an A and said he enjoyed seeing a Venture again. He's retired now, but just before he retired I managed to have him rebuild my front shocks. So look around. A small shop will be your best bet. Bring a manual with you just in case. Always be willing to talk to the guy about and discrepancies in manual.... Get to know him. It's a partnership!
