  1. Sounds like a great plan, sometimes some even modify the seat to get a lower height FYI, next post, many people dislike it when a thread is started as all capital letters, kinda seems like we are being yelled at. 🍻

  2. Hello Forum. I was in need of some parts for my "new to me" RSV and Squidley stepped in with several parts that I needed to get my new ride detailed like I want it. He is a good honest man that shipped parts to me to inspect before I sent a check, it's rubber by the way, to pay for them. We have a lot of good members on this Forum and I am thankful I am geting to know some of them again. Steve.

  3. Some of the old timers on this Forum used hockey pucks placed on top of the jack to align with the frame of the bike. If you get them located properly, then you can bolt them to the jack if you are going to dedicate the jack to that model of bike. Conversely, you could build a light frame out of angle and mount the pucks to that and set it over the jack. Also, you can use short pieces of 2 x 4 blocks to do the same thing. Jim

  5. This is true for any repair shop. If the repair bill is going to exceed the resale value of the machine the shop is taking a chance on getting reimbursed for parts and labor. At the truck shop I work at we do not refuse any vehicle but we do inform the customer of the costs they could be running into and if those costs exceed the value of the vehicle the customer is given the option to refuse any further expense or to pay all or a percentage of the possible cost involved in advance, with the understanding that because it is an older machine that once we get into it other issues could crop up and we will do our best to keep them informed as we proceed should they wish to pull the plug at any given time.

  6. I bought the RSV 10 days ago knowing it needed new tires before I could ride it. BUT I didn't relize it would be 12 days before I would have time to get on it. Since it had been 10 years since I had been on an RSV I wanted safety gear before I rode again. I have ridden other smaller bikes like my buddy's Road Star, but not often or far. I got the bike back from new tires on Wednesday, new helmet came in Thursday and new coat Friday. Saturday I checked the bike out real good, added a back rest, got geared up and hit the road slowly and carefully. To say it was a wonderful experience would be a vast understatement. I chose out of the way 2 lane roads for 95% of my riding, I needed fuel and food that took a 4 lane, and only had one close call with a truck that felt he need 90% of the road for his oversize tires and loud pipes. I put 135 miles on it in about 5 hours and stopped and visited with my BFF for a few minutes. She wanted to see the bike so she might feel better about me riding again. I love riding again and am looking forward to getting back in the groove so I can start taking trips out west. Thanks for listening to my rambling. Steve

  9. Thank you for the kind words Steve, and you other brothers. I have tried to live my life to treat people how I would like to be treated. I'm just happy that the items will go to someone who can use them 👍

  10. Hi. I’m Charles . Nice to meet you guys. I’m retired and love to ride. I just bought this bike about a month ago and it runs great. I paid 1500 dollars for it. No problems so far. I also bought a 83 Yamaha 1200 venture royale but couldn’t get it running. I put all kinds of parts on it, re-wired it and everything. Just got tired of working on it so I bought a newer 1300 and loving it. Thanks for welcoming me.

  14. I’d rather mess it up myself or take my bike to another member across the country than have some 18yo no nothing at a stealership touch anything. There are some custom shop exceptions.

  17. You could, and I am just going off the top of my head here without studying the bikes schematics, I would say you would need two relays one for each light ( Left and right ) since you do not want to interfere with normal signal function. Cut the wire to the left signal light. Connect the wire coming from the the light to terminal 30 and the other wire to terminal 87a. . (which is NC) Now do the same thing with the second relay and the right signal light. At this point the signal lights should work as normal again. Next, tap into the red wire from the back off module and run to terminals 87 of both relays. Connect terminals 85 of both relays to ground Connect terminals 86 of both relays to either the yellow wire of the back off module or the same terminal on the optional switch the yellow wire is connected to. this should keep the front signals operating as normal when the optional switch is off but switch the lights over to the back off module when the optional switch is on.

  18. Just thinking out loud here. Sounds to me like that power plant may only be running on 2 or maybe 3. Way to much shaking going on. Never mind that you had only a few bubbles, there should not be any of those,,, after all, it's not the bath for the missus is it? If I am right on it not running on all four, then why isn't it? Could be that 1 cylinder is out and not combusting, but also leaking into the coolant. If it's not combusting, there wouldn't be any combusting gases to test for. Maybe pull the plugs and see what they look like, and do a compression or leakdown test.

  19. I always lived by the theory that the thermostat was added into the system to stop the flow of coolant long enough for the coolant in the radiator to be cooled by air passing thru the rad veins before it re-enters the water jackets surrounding the combustion chamber/jugs.. If that is so than removing the thermostat and leaving it out is probably not your best option. Besides, if your going to take it apart to remove the thermostat you may as well replace it with a new one so you dont have to redo the job. I also wonder if you may be just experiencing a bad rad cap.. Another theory of mine is that the system is designed to operate under pressure as the pressure actually assists in boiling control as does using coolant instead of water. Maybe make sure your bikes cooling system has proper coolant mix as well as a good radiator cap that will not allow pressure release until above spec pressure in the system has been reached would be a good place to start.

  20. There was a mod that some of us did to our radio setups and it was called Marshall Mod as a gentleman named Marshall Gammon came up with the idea. It involved adding a second antenna to the setup. Some of the travel trunk racks have a provision added to them at the factory for adding a second factory antenna mount to the left side of the rack. We would add that mount and then add another antenna to the left side and run that directly to the radio antenna connection using a cable with a male Motorola connector to a male PL-259 connector. This bypass the splitter box that is connected to the CB radio and allows that to be removed with the CB antenna connector then move directly to the CB. You might be able to find this cable at a truck stop that has CB supplies for the truckers. I ended up with a couple of 4ft Firecracker CB antennas on each side of the travel trunk with fold down adapters and the correct length of cable running up to each radio. This did improve my FM radio reception. I cant say much about the CB as I honestly dont use it but have left it in place and connected. Every now and then I turn it on just to see if I hear anyone out there still using it. If I was going to do it over again, I would get 3 foot Firecracker CB antenna as the 4 ft ones are a little long.. I hope this helps. Rick F.

  22. On the 1986-1993 Venture, the only original part to be reused is the "cap" (the aluminum plug with O-ring) and the "bolt" (the aluminum threaded cap that holds it all inside.) The "cap" will provide the recommended preload (15/16"). No PVC spacer is used.

  23. Hi to everyone i havent been a member long but ive really enjoyed all of the help and support that has been offered on this site. I m laying in a hospital bed right now in Thunder Bay Ontario after being blown off a curve. Theyve pinned my left femur back together and fused my back from my lower neck to below my shoulderblades. I went into the surgery with full muscle control and feeling. No numb spots and all responses were normal. This is day three after the surgery and im still numb from the chest down and very little muscle control in my left leg. I cant tell if im moving my feet and legs unless i can see them. Doctors have run mris and cts and things look good but the numbness cant be explained other then swelling of the spinal cord. So im asking for prayers. Im asking for a flood of them. If a centurion could approach Jesus with the faith that just Jesus saying the words be healed would be enough and a bleeding women with the faith in a single touch of Jesus's cloak would heal her i can boldly approach the throne and humbly ask for the healing touch of our Lords hand and i would appreciate it if you would join me there in prayer these next days and weeks. Thankfully my wife has been allowed to visit yesterday and today but with lockdowns due to covid that will be the only chance i will have of seeing her for a long while. Through it all blessed be the name of the Lord
