  1. Hey Zach, Hey Ben, Thanks for the mention! Saddlebum is correct I offer a kit that De-links the front and rear brakes and replaces every rubber brake and clutch line on your motorcycle with Kevlar lined, S.S. covered material. It also uses a modified VMAX front brake splitter. The MKI VR's (1983 to 1985) had the two piston front and rear calipers with the 80MM spread on the front caliper brackets. The MKII VR's had the four piston front and rear calipers with the 100MM spread on the front caliper mounting brackets. Since the early R1 and R6 Calipers all have the 100MM caliper mounting brackets, you would need to change out your front forks to the MKII forks to be able to put the R1/R6 calipers on your bike. This is a direct bolt on swap, and I have a set of forks if you are interested as well as the De-Link Kit. You can also install a four piston rear caliper on your bike if you swap out the caliper mounting bracket, I have this bracket and a freshly rebuilt 4 piston rear caliper if you are interested. If you have other questions about upgrading your brakes, please feel free to contact me at: skydoc17@gmail.com Good luck with your project! Earl

  4. All this info is great! Thanks guys. Another thought I’ve had recently and this is for everyday carry as well is a compact umbrella or two. Aside from the obvious rain protection I’m thinking more for use against the sun, especially doing a roadside repair. It’s difficult to do anything with the desert sun beating down on you let alone see through the sweat.

  5. They forecast us 12”-20”. Only got 5-6, I’ll count that as a win. Snow rarely lasts a week here, riding today and going fishing Saturday.

  7. Nice to know I'm in such good company! I started on a Honda CM450 ~1989, upgraded to a couple of larger Shadows, then the 1100 Yamaha Virago. Was planning a 5-day trip with a couple of friends in '99 and starting thinking I needed something different for such a trip. I was 31 years old then and the idea of a big touring bike was not even within the realm of my thinking. That was when I walked into a Yamaha dealer and started looking at their bigger star cruisers. I called my wife who happened to be nearby and asked her to come give me her opinion of the bikes I was looking at & see how they felt as a passenger. In her smart ass way, she looked at the Venture and said, "Well, you could buy 'Grandpa's' bike here" (Sorry guys, she said it not me, but I did laugh...). The sales guy, of course, laughed too then said in all seriousness, "its a really nice bike, we'd be happy to let you take it on a test ride". She looked at me and said "you gotta try it, maybe Grandpa knows something." I signed the necessary paperwork and was off for a quick ride, she waited at the shop. I came back, told her Grandpa DOES know something and we're buying the Grandpa bike - because I love it! Haha Two weeks later I was off on my 1st multi-day ride through Yosemite, to Lake Tahoe, Mts Lassen & Shasta and then two days down the coast. That '99 Venture made multiple trips back to Yosemite, up and down the coast and eventually a multi-week round trip to St. Louis and back. It was also my daily commute ride. I kept it looking like it did the day I bought it. It was a sad day when I sold it, but the buyer was a 52-year old guy who's youngest daughter just left for college and he had given up motorcycles when his kids came along. Isn't that something! I'm right where he was then. And still love this timelessly beautiful bike! And yes, my wife is still a smart ass and she still calls it the Grandpa bike.

  8. I feel I must apologize. I had been making plans to fly down to Houston, visit friends and rent a bike to go riding around on. I had no idea that God would utterly smoke all you Texans in order to stop me. Sorry.

  9. I would go over and clean all the connections before I jumped the gun on that. I almost replaced mine due to a missing cylinder and upon removal noticed fretting on the terminals. I painstakingly cleaned up all the terminals with electronic cleaner than followed with ACF50. Then I sprayed everything with ACF50 prior to reassembly and the bike has run flawlessly since and that was three/four years ago. I see a lot of modules get replaced in my trade by techs jumping the gun only to discover the module was not the problem. So when my guys tell me a customers vehicle needs a module I always question what they checked before giving them the OK to replace and 9 times out of ten they come back to say upon deeper searching they found the actual problem which is usually faulty wiring.

  10. Also handy to keep on hand but get a quality one like https://no.co/gb40 Tool dealers like Snapon and Mac also sell quality ones It also is handy for recharging any USB device and the unit itself can be recharged off any USB power supply. I also holds charge for about a year. I have boosted my 5.7 v8 with it so a Motorcycle is a breeze some are junk like the Eveready which is the first one I had.

  12. Permission only works about 50 percent of the time. Go for forgiveness and dinner with jewelry. Also, if your determined to fix your problem look at replacing the ignition switch they are known for failure.
