  1. Before I head out on a multi day run I also take a look at the member map to see who lives near my route.

  2. For me on this side of USA, Rain Gear. I'm also a firm believer of the vacuum type bags to pack clothes in. They compress and keep stuff dry. First pic here of RSV is what I had to pack when I went to Daytona to work as an official. I was up there for 3 weeks. Uniforms, rain gear, warm clothes, and 3 firesuits. Second one is 07 or 08 when wife and I went to NC for a week in Fall.

  5. I am aware Carl, that’s why I live down here 🤣🤣. There’s a possibility we may retire farther south to get away from more of it. All this slipping and sliding and I don’t bounce back up like I used to.

  6. I’m just floating this out there to see how much interest there might be. I always see the pictures of freebirds maintenance days and it looks like a great time. Unfortunately it’s a bit to far for some of us to be able to make the trip. So I’ve been thinking it would be nice to try and get some of the west coast guys together. I don’t have a big spread by any stretch of the imagination (small house on a cul de sac) but pending approval from Household 6, I could have a few bikes here before the neighbors start to get upset. i don’t have even a fraction of the knowledge that a lot of members here have, but I’m learning all the time, and I’m pretty handy with a wrench. I also have a jack adapter, a carb tune, and a decent set of standard tools. If anyone is interested please respond. Also if anyone just wants to hook up for some riding please sound off. I’m in Victorville in the high desert.

  7. @XV1100SE has same bike. He could tell you. Found this in previous post of his. I'm impressed with Performance Cycle! I didn't realize that there was a difference in parts for the 2012/2013 RSV but apparently there are differences. For "up to 2011"... there is sealing rubbers 5EA-1111G-00-00 @ $16.31 that goes over bolt 90109-066F0-00 (didn't ask for price). Cost of the rubber is $16. For 2012/13 there is 5SL-1119E-00-00 (which are bolts with rubbers). The 2012/2013 bolt/rubber is $5.95 but back ordered. I don't know if these parts are interchangeable as no part numbers are listed as replaced by another. Thru Performance Cycle I have ordered : - sealing rubbers # 5EA-1111G-00-00 up to 2011 $16.31 quantity 16 - valve cover gasket # 4NK-11193-00-00 @ $44.71 quantity 2

  9. Plan for the unexpected which includes a lot, including the weather all the way to a flat tire. MORE: Leave with good tires. Take tools you can use. Invest is a SPOT or similar for emergency if no cell service. Med Jet is great if you and/or you motorcycle need to be evacuated for any reason. I had to use it. If traveling outside USA obtain some hospital insurance that will pay the facility, not you pay and pray you are reimbursed (happened to me). GoreTex is you friend. Be very aware of the range of your motorcycle in a worse case and have a good idea where you will get your next fill. Yep, early on I found out about range. Use water proof bags to pack your clothes in even if you think your luggage is waterproof. But most importantly, enjoy it.

  11. Good question, wife says most important to get off the steed, stretch and rehydrate every couple of hours. Myself, a full selection of tools and a cell with wifi/data. 60 day rte66 run was longest for us in 2013, 267 hours saddle time. This forum was the best reference to successfully put that trip together.

  12. As we've said in the past, plan it and they will come.

  13. Back in November my wife and I took a 4 day trip to the FL Keys. We actually fit everything in the saddlebags, trunk and extra bag on the luggage rack. The trailer was full of fishing gear. I was impressed that fully loaded, two up and pulling a trailer the RSV was able to cruise down the Turnpike at 80+ mph like the trailer wasn't even there.

  14. Don't overplan your route, allow yourself to change it up on the fly. Don't insist on a set daily destination; if you tire, find a place to stay, if you feel good, keep going.

  15. Nice pic! I’m an Eagle Scout and have done a fair amount of backcountry backpacking. I sort of feel this is very similar in concept. Now to sort through all the cobwebs blocking experience past.
