  1. Last March, I brought the RSV to Phoenix so my buddy and I could ride through the Spring through Fall... Hitting the mountains and enjoying weekends on the road. Covid put an end to that. A few weeks ago, i started the bike up and fuel poured out the overflows. Went through the basics but nothing worked. Mind you I've been running her at least once a month since March. Running fine. This week I broke down and took the carbs off. Actually, after reading @V7Goose's older article about removing carbs and another that @Freebird posted from an earlier member... The process was simple!! Yea.... Seriously. Took the carbs out, cleaned the carbs, bowls, jets... Checked the gas in tank, fuel lines and replaced fuel filter. Replaced plugs as well. Thought we had it done but after 10 minutes or so of running very well... fuel poured out the left overflow. Took the tank and air stuff off... Started her up... And she ran fine... No overflow. What? Put her back together last night.Went for a long ride today.... City riding, country and freeway... Hitting 80mph. Not one issue. Have to conclude the problem was some gunk got in one of the carbs and took a while to work it's way out. For the record, the full gas tank had Stabil and Techron in it since March. BTW, I set the floats at 9mm and the pilots at 2.5. Pilots were at 2.25 and she was always cold blooded. So a touch more fuel I thought would help. It did. My thanks to @cowpuc for his help and his encouragement! Besides helping me stay on track, he gave me extra ideas to ponder and check out as I went through the carbs. This forum and it's members have once again proven their worth!! Sorry no pictures... We were to busy CTFW!! David P.S. Dont fear pulling the carbs on the 2nd gen. Read the two articles, both in the 2nd gen maintenance section. The pictures and explanations are perfect.

  2. Eileen and I actually got out for a ride Friday afternoon. Hard to believe that we had such a nice day this late in November. Left about 2:00 and rode maybe 150-200 miles. Ended up in Bellville, OH and stopped for dinner. It was dark when we left and the temps had dropped into the mid 50s. Had about a hour ride home and it got a little cool but we were dressed pretty well for it. Had a great time and it sure felt good to get the bike out. Back into the 30s and raining again now. Might have been the last ride of the year for us.

  3. I'm sure I've posted other beer brewing topics here in the past. I've been home brewing for many years but have not brewed regularly for a few years. Mostly because my system was cumbersome and time consuming in clean up. I could do 10 gallon, high gravity batches but my brew day was 6-8 hours per batch. I just picked up a Brewer's Edge Mash and Boil with Pump system. It's a lautering Tun and boil kettle in one set up. Now, instead of having a hot liquor tank, mash tun, and boil kettle with separate heating sources that took up 10 feet of counter space and a good bit of floor space, my 5 gallon brew setup fits on a 2'x3' table. This is my first brew with the new setup and, so far all is well!

  4. Now that I'm deep into my carburetor cleaning and overhauling (waiting for new needle valves at the moment), my curious mind has taken over and I've been doing a bit of research about ethanol, why we are required to use it, what it does and why its bad. I'm sure most of you are already years ahead of me on this, but my research led me to ask "Why in the heck isn't someone creating an alternative to this ethanol?" Well, as it turns out, they are: bio-isobutanol! Bio-isobutanol has higher energy content than ethanol, is not corrosive, is not hygroscopic (so does not phase separate) and can be made from same feedstock and equipment as ethanol (different fermentation yeast and separation processes though). There really shouldn't be any political battles from the corn belt to protect their profits, which would be a huge hurdle to overcome. And the best news is that the EPA approved its use as a fuel additive in 2018. We can, in part, thank the marine industry for pushing for this through gov't channels. https://www.nmma.org/press/article/22033 I'm not too far into it yet, but wondering if other industry groups are also backing isobutanol to replace ethanol and what the chances are we'll actually see this in our fuel instead of ethanol in the near future. Here's an interesting article from a few years ago comparing the two additives in boat engines: https://www.boatingmag.com/replacement-ethanol/

  5. Hello everyone! I just found this forum a few minutes ago and decided to give it a shot. I worked a deal last night and got an '83 Venture. It's not running right now, but he has a clear title on it (big plus). I am looking forward to getting her home and getting started. I hope I can pick peoples' brains from time to time in case I get stuck on something. I'm including a pic of my "beautiful" basket case.

  6. I went in for my pre op Covid test this morning. Tuesday is lights out for some pretty major foot surgery. Well the surgery its self is not that major, about 2 hours, but the recovery will be. With some luck I may get to put a shoe on by March. The short version is they will almost be cutting the foot off and screwing it back on where it is supposed to be at the end of my leg. Disclaimers....... I do plan to be online Tuesday night after the surgery, I may still be half under so I will not be responsible for any strange things that flow out the ends of my fingers and into the keyboard. I also will not be responsible if someone laughs so hard they spew all over their keyboard and/or monitor.
