  1. Well @wsantosf, Let me answer your question from personal experience which I shared here a long time ago. I was working on my bike before I had a lift doing an oil change. To help level the bike I placed a 2x4 under the kickstand putting the bike much more level. I guess I didn’t realize how close to the “balance point” it was. As I was putting on the left side side cover I gently pushed on it to seat it in the rubber grommets, and that’s all she wrote! I couldn’t stop it and watched in HORROR as my baby made an unimpeded fall to the concrete on the right side. It was then I realized the engineering genius of Yamaha as the bike went over to about 47-48 degrees and stopped. It seems the main bar the floorboards are mounted to (floorboards included) are what stop the bike and prevent further rollover. Also, the black plastic saddlebag lowers are what support and cushion the saddlebags! I set the bike upright and examined for any damage.... NOTHING. And I mean not so much as a scrape! That being said, trust me when I say, it has protection already built in by design. You just can’t see it. Kudos to Yamaha on design!

  2. OK...I'll do my best. Yes, followers are the same thing that friends list was. Just a different name. Yes, the old one its a thing of the past., VR Honor Badges is gone. There are a couple of options for something similar but I'm still studying them. From what I've read, both are pretty buggy right now. Hou can still PM a member. It's Called "Messaging" now. Hover over somebody avatar and a popup will show "message", "ingore", and "find content" which is other things that user has posted.

  3. Using the solder splices you need to make sure that you are heating the solder to the correct temperature, to hot or to cold and the solder will melt but made a weak connection that may fail. It is very difficult to tell by looking at it if you have a good connection while it is very easy to end up with a poor connection. When making high reliability wire connection for critical equipment, solder is not the preferred option, Crimped or welded is the preferred method. Welded is not an option for 99.9% of us. I have had the best results using the crimp but splices that have the adhesive lined heat shrink tubing on them. You can buy them at any Auto Zone and probably most other auto parts stores. The crimp on adhesive lined shrink tube splices, and terminals are all I use anymore for terminating wires. A proper crimp is more reliable than a proper solder joint in a vibration environment.

  5. I agree with @Flyinfool and there fore have never been a big fan of these. You need to consider that solder joints are only truly reliable on new and/or very clean wire. If the integrity of the soldered connection is not as good as it should be you may end up with resistance in the connection. Under a heavy enough load that poor connection will heat up and in many cases the solder will melt and the connection will come apart. In the trucking industry wiring is an on going battle specially in places like here in Ontario were salt is used on the roads in winter. So like wise I am not a fan of the one piece crimp connector with heat shrink because often times when you crimp these the insulation gets pierced and as a result I have seen many of these turn green and fall apart. The most reliable form of connection I have used is the bare crimp type butt connectors and for very severe conditions I will prefill the connector with dialectic grease (in a pinch silicone brake lube or Vaseline also work well ) I then slide a piece of dual wall with sealant heat shrink over the connection (slid on to one of the wires prior to making connection ) I have never had this type of connection fail on any equipment regardless how severe the environmental conditions it is exposed to. Crimp connectors; ask @Marcarlwhat my preference is. I once threw out his cheap Walmart specials and replaced it in his tool box with an extra pair I had in the truck LOL. I prefer the type made like the ones made by Klien, Channelok or stake-on.

  7. I read about that too. Good for me, I guess. I am still riding even when temps are in the low 30s. It just feels great. I’ll take whatever chance I can to ride and I especially will not be so sad if I don’t get to use my snowblower this winter season. Ride safe and don’t forget to turn on the heat. 😃

  8. Hello all I've not been on for a while, hope everyone is doing well. Thought I'd share my sat nav mount idea This is a standard Garmin Sat Nav Drill a hole in the attachment piece Remove the star badge and drill a hole in the cassette deck cover Attach them both together and screw down Attach Sat Nav - id recommend a bit of gorilla tape on the back as a fail safe I also ran the power cable through the fairing to the power socket Looks really good in my opinion and can still be removed if you are worried about it being stolen (take your gorilla tape with you to re do your fail safe)

  9. I had to give this some thought, and had to re-read what it was that was posted. I think it could be two-fold. One is that politics has no place here, and it would not be hard to inject some political thoughts into the discussion and hence delete this whole thread. I do have to compliment those involved, on staying mostly out of that arena, although I bet there may have been some erasing done before posting. Two, would the discussion on how the whole Covid situation is being dealt with, or not, what effect it has, or has not, how it might or might not have an effect on the lives of humans. This could also get political very quickly but maybe more importantly was leading to 'direct debating' , if I may call it that. That is the prime reason for my suggestion to 'address the chair', if for no other reason that to keep us away from biting at each other. Three,, I know, I said two, but I couldn't possibly keep this short,,, eh @saddlebum. Folks on North side of the border have the opportunity to watch what's going on with your side. We are not actually involved, we don't have to live with the consequences as you do. I didn't say it doesn't effect us, it will somehow, but we have no real say in the matter, so it's a different ball game for us. We get our info by the News and what ever else we decide to watch or listen to. As with all reporting, there is a slant and we will remember more easily the slant that supports our own thinking rather than any slants that do not. Personally, I do not envy the decision that Americans have/had to make. Sure is good to know that there is a Power that overlooks all this, and that nothing can happen without His knowledge.

  10. I haven’t been here long enough to say much, but if asked... I agree with @cowpucthat #2 is a more sophisticated and classy look. I usually use #1 cuz it seems easier to navigate, and like you @FreebirdI don’t care for #3. IMHO, you “long timers” who live here should have what you want.
