  1. They're made for doing precisely that, so I'd be all for using them for stator and reg/rec replacements.

  2. I was talking to one of our techs at work the other day and venting my frustrations of soldering the wires on the regulator rectifier, when she asked me "why not use solder sleeves? I have seen them used for years on our shipboard cables but have never used them until now. They were really easy to use and the connections look really clean and sturdy. I am curious if anyone else has ever used them and if so what results have you had? Solder Sleeves

  3. On the middle gear cover, the bolt/cap screw at the six o'clock position should have a copper washer under its head. The copper washer acts as a gasket to prevent oil escaping. If the copper washer has become work hardened (and it is once installed) it will leak when the bolt is reinstalled, even if reinstalled with the washer. The washer can be re-annealed (softened) and reused or it can be replaced with a new washer. To anneal the old washer, heat it to red hot with a torch and then quench the red hot washer in oil or water. It will now be as new (soft) and capable of acting like the gasket it was.

  5. Personally I do not see either side or anyone I know laying down our weapons, sticking our heads in the sand hoping the enemy just walks away Ben. There is a big difference in approach to Communist China's open attack on the free world by each party in the U.S. though. Personally, I am privy to a lot of the science behind the virus (I have a daughter who is front line on the research and development of tools for handling it) but I truly have no better access to this knowledge than anyone who wanted to trash listening to Gov propaganda and do their own research. Just to bring you up to speed, cause I love you too, this wearing a mask thing is nonsense UNLESS you are properly wearing an N95 mask or better. Wearing of anything less has zero effect in protection. Also, any facial hair must be removed and the masks must be fit properly. Actually, the make up of this weaponized virus is of such that a proper fitting full blown resparator is about your surest way of protection with wearing a full blown haz mat suit with resporator and decontaminate shower between changes and then living in a bubble protection environment being about the way of absolute protection. Like it or not,, all of that is fact.. One of the things that we Americans have always enjoyed about the freedom/liberty the blood of our countrymen/women has purchased for us (I have a hunch that we should all take another peek at the true definition of Liberty - IMHO, many have forgotten what it really is) is that many of us in America who have grown to love and treasure the Freedom/Liberty our Constitutional way of life affords us do not appreciate Government controlling our lives. Passing on vital information such as I wrote above - yes,, closing down our country and locking us inside "for our own protection" - absolutely NOT.. Individual Liberty is lost when that type of socialism peeks its head out IMHO. Perhaps what you see as running and hiding/sticking our heads in the sand hoping the enemy will just disappear is something some of us Americans see as boldly facing the enemy and not allowing those who have sold out our country and have authority over us to trick us (thru propoganda) or force us into surrendering our individual liberties and freedoms by allowing something like the Covid virus to dominate our lives.. Something to think about.. Puc

  8. You bet brother!! Quite frankly, YOU are one amazing individual that deserves a standing ovation of the 5 star type for all you have done, past/present/future, in creating such an amazing adVenture for ALL of us who call your creation home!! You are appreciated and loved for all you are and all you do @Freebird!! I am also 100% all in with @Squidley on his from the heart/soul advice too,, for those who are not pleased (and I know it happens) looking elsewhere on the net may be best thing for them but I wish them the best in finding the family type environment you and your staff seek to create and have been successful in creating here on VR. 9. It’s all good my friend. The bottom line though is I know I will never please everyone. I’ll continue to try though. Thanks for owning up to it though.

  10. I totally. understand. I want to make it clear though. This was not change just for the sake of change. The server software was outdated. The system we were using would not run on the newer software. I had gotten notice from the hosting company that the old PHP software was at "end of life" and was obsolete. That created security issues with the server and I was told I had to update or the site would be taken offline. That's the long and short of it. I completely understand their side of it and my choice was to update the site or take it down. Taking it down was not an option for me.

  11. The early RSTDs have lower hp engines but I thought all of the RSVs had the same engine. I think they all have the same hp rating.

  12. @Patch Me wrong never, well maybe never, you know I might be wrong about that. I had thought the 99-13 were the same and have been buying parts under that assumption, but you know what assuming does to you.

  13. Yea, I kept waiting for Jay Leno to pull in with his motorhome. Oh well, just more proof that this group has become more about lifelong friends than just the bikes. I'm happy that people get here regardless of how they do it.

  14. Wow, a lot of people with no idea! How old is your oil? Maybe time for change? The light will flash for me sometimes when driving aggressively when shifting. The light only comes on if there is low level and has nothing to do with oil pressure. Are you checking the level when cold and the bike level, not leaning??
