I’ve heard it the other way around. Eating group with a riding disorder.2 points

When I saw the pic, it does not look so bad...but the bike may have some significant hidden problems that can be very problematic. As mentioned before, see if the engine is any good...however, you will have to determine that yourself and definitely seek a second opinion. Say the engine is still good, you still have a lot to tinker and replace (fluids, etc.). Are the tires any good or could be close to being dry rotten. The list can go on and on and on. With that said, if you have all the time and now that we are approaching the colder months, tis the season to work on a project bike. You are in the right forum and there are several members here with tons of knowledge and expertise and they can guide you and give you confidence. Whatever you decide, Good Luck and most importantly...Have Fun working on your RSV.2 points

I bought a 1983 XVZ1200 from a friend in late 2019 .. I am going through the bike from the front to the back. I do not ride any bike till I work my way through it repairing as needed . ( it cost many $$$$ ) I have been riding since 1964 and prefer to buy a bike in as is condition then rebuild it . I did notice 2 very different punch marks behind the engine number not sure what the punch marks are for He had a custom built trailer hitch mounted on the rear which I have removed , it was well built and fit the bike nicely .. I have removed the hitch and I am wanting to sell it . I live in Morden , Manitoba1 point

I've added a new "Members Map" and the link is in the menu bar at the top called "Community Map". You don't need to do anything, it will add you automatically if your country, state, etc. are in your profile. It will take a few days before it adds everybody. It only adds 100 per day due to API key restrictions and etc. So please be patient. Also, only Supporting members will be listed.1 point

and,, any time I have saw gas and water mixed, the water always seemed to end up at the bottom of the mix. So the coolant goes up the intake, fills the venturi, displaces the fuel in the vents/jets/emulsion tube and settles into the bottom of the bowl until it fills the bowl to the brim cause it is not being controlled by the float valve and ends up going out of the overflow tubes..1 point

@Patch Me wrong never, well maybe never, you know I might be wrong about that. I had thought the 99-13 were the same and have been buying parts under that assumption, but you know what assuming does to you.1 point

There are jets and port passages, 5 in total, including the cold start and coast enrichment valves, plus three air vents at the top edge of the venturi that lead to the fuel bowl were coolant can back up into the fuel bowl once coolant flooding back from the faulty cylinder floods the venturi.1 point

I've been watching them for years along with Barret Jackson... It's entertaining as all get out. Usually the first days cars are about the only ones I could possibily afford, but the fun comes in the next few days seeing cars I've owned going for mega-bucks... Never been to one in person, but maybe when all this Covid BS comes to an end I'll give some thought to BJ in Reno or Vegas... I hope this posts, cause I'm having a heck of a time .logging on... Hopefully now I am???1 point

Well, after discussing it with the developers, I now know what is happening. The old forum used separate profile fields for the city and state. For this map to work properly, the city, state has to be in one field, like Oberlin, OH. So, I have to come up with a script and query to change it in all the profiles. I will get it done in the near future.1 point

Scott, I have been to both Mecum and Barrett Jackson actions, but only as a spectator. You can get up close and personal with the cars before the auction and I expect that if you can find the owner he would answer any questions you have and let you hear it run etc. Not sure about a road test and I have never seen any lifts available for use on site. FYI, I paid to have an inspection/appraisal done on a car I was thinking about buying in Dallas TX. It cost less then an airplane ride and was the best $400 I ever spent. I didn't buy the car.1 point

So 1st welcome to the family: You seem to have the attitude we enjoy playing with More than an active group just ask Dad we are well known to be Hyperactive and darnrightoutofhand at times (not me of course I am the quiet one) This model is my least favorite due to the corners Yam cut from the earlier and then later models. I am siding with Puc on this one. We've kicked this can around with others and always end up with the same conclusions, not enough air and not enough rpm potential! So if you chose to set it up as a cruising by then there plenty of torgue for that!1 point

Keep in mind you can find running/riding 99s in the 2500 range.1 point

For as little as these old Yams are worth (and that aint much) and as much as I LOVE the long bikes plus considering the frame design, 15 inch rear wheel and it being a V-4 I would chop it.. I would either shop the bike shows for a decent old school springer of at least 10 over or I would just spring (pun intended) for a new Paughco 16 or 18 over springer, rake the bike and end up with another wayyyy cool,, wayyy fun long bike to play on.. Loved my choppers! Would DEFINITELY do what Sky suggests and I would know 100% what I had for a motor 1st though cause if the engines gone,, aint worth fooling with IMHO.1 point

Sounds like a big project. Check the compression of the engine before you spend too much money on it. if you have the time and the interest, go for it!1 point

PLEASE don’t be talking voting. This here election is about to wring out what little patience I have left. We’re going on a two day ride just to get away from it. We voted early just to get away.0 points
