I kinda wish the stator in mine would take a poop. I want one of Buckeye's stators, and if mine would quit, it would move to the head of the priority list pretty quickly. Thirteen years and over 50,000 miles on mine and still going good. Man, when you want something to break...

kw, sounds like your starter button is sticking, spray some contact cleaner in there. Normally the relay will not stick on by its self. Try that first.

Hey Kevin....its the Stator, not the starter.....You know, the generator/alternator thingy...LOL

By the way, I picked up a jack adapter from AlbinoRhino. Thanks for the offer though.

Hmmm....Looks like the stators in these bikes seem to only last about 7-8 years. Sorry Ruffy, looks like your time was up!:duck:

You know, a cheesecake would sure ease the pain.....:innocent-emoticon:

Just a question for someone who's changed one out. How long did it take?

Mine is just 2 years and 18,000 miles old, so it will be a while before it goes south, but I sure would like the extra juice!

It took a couple of hours. The hardest part was getting the Philips screwsout that hold the stator in, and everything else that need to come off. I ended up having to drill the screws out and retap the holes. I used hex bolts when I put it back together. I wish you better luck getting it apart but I would still by a tap and chase the holes I believe it was an M6 tap. Good luck & keep us updated.
