Sweetnothing Posted September 5, 2008 #5 Posted September 5, 2008 Hmmm....Looks like the stators in these bikes seem to only last about 7-8 years. Sorry Ruffy, looks like your time was up!
pegscraper Posted September 5, 2008 #6 Posted September 5, 2008 I kinda wish the stator in mine would take a poop. I want one of Buckeye's stators, and if mine would quit, it would move to the head of the priority list pretty quickly. Thirteen years and over 50,000 miles on mine and still going good. Man, when you want something to break...

Dano Posted September 5, 2008 #8 Posted September 5, 2008 kw, sounds like your starter button is sticking, spray some contact cleaner in there. Normally the relay will not stick on by its self. Try that first. Dan
kwisor Posted September 5, 2008 #9 Posted September 5, 2008 Thanks dan i'll give it a try kevin wisor 1999 rsv jax fl
1BigDog Posted September 5, 2008 Author #10 Posted September 5, 2008 Hey Kevin....its the Stator, not the starter.....You know, the generator/alternator thingy...LOL By the way, I picked up a jack adapter from AlbinoRhino. Thanks for the offer though.

1sttenor Posted September 5, 2008 #13 Posted September 5, 2008 Just a question for someone who's changed one out. How long did it take? Mine is just 2 years and 18,000 miles old, so it will be a while before it goes south, but I sure would like the extra juice!
breakingparts Posted September 5, 2008 #14 Posted September 5, 2008 It took a couple of hours. The hardest part was getting the Philips screwsout that hold the stator in, and everything else that need to come off. I ended up having to drill the screws out and retap the holes. I used hex bolts when I put it back together. I wish you better luck getting it apart but I would still by a tap and chase the holes I believe it was an M6 tap. Good luck & keep us updated.
