rhighet Posted September 3, 2008 #1 Posted September 3, 2008 I have an '05 RSV with (of course) the electronic speedometer/odomoeter. The speedometer face has both mph and kilometers per hour shown, but my question is can the odometer function be switched from miles to kilometers electronically (maybe by a dealer only), or would I have to get a whole new 'Canadian' speedometer unit?
sarges46 Posted September 3, 2008 #2 Posted September 3, 2008 You would have to change the whole thing. Why do need to do this? Being nosy is all. I have a US bike and there are no issues.
rhighet Posted September 3, 2008 Author #3 Posted September 3, 2008 Hi Rick BTW... our prayers are with Big Bob. Yes, as a Canadian I bought a US bike and saved thousands and love the bike, probably will keep for a couple of years yet. Was wanting to 'switch' the odometer to kilometers for easier resale if/when I decided to sell it. I would of thought that since the speedometer/odometer is all electronic, the mfg would have kept the same part for US or CA bikes and had a simple way to re-program or 'switch' from US to metric like home electronic thermostats/thermometers and the such. It's no biggie really, I was just curious if anyone new if it was possible or not. Regards, Richard
sarges46 Posted September 3, 2008 #4 Posted September 3, 2008 When I sold the 89 US bike there were no issues from the buyer. I do understand what you're saying though as I turned down a bike in Winnipeg because it was a US one. I just didnt know better at the time.
dr_bar Posted September 3, 2008 #5 Posted September 3, 2008 I would love to have a fix from Yamaha to make riding across the border an easier experience. In Canada, the speedo is marked only in km... A button on the dash to switch between MPH and KPH would have been a logical adition to the 2nd gens.
Leland Posted September 4, 2008 #6 Posted September 4, 2008 Dip switch #2 of the SpeedoHealer http://www.speedohealer.com . Instructions say,"Set the Conversion mode value" 0: no conversion, 1: mile to km, 2: km to mile.
BradT Posted September 5, 2008 #7 Posted September 5, 2008 I too have a US Bike and I do not worry about the odometer, and wont worry when I sell it if I ever do that. Brad
