I have belonged to this site for a few years now and have met many of you and have long conversations with lots of others. So I value and respect the opinion of lots of you guys....heres my question....I am thinking about getting a 1994 Goldwing...can get it fairly cheap. Any experience with this year? I know the wing is a good bike but some years have their issues? Any input?....Im looking at it because we are going to be doing alot more distance riding. I know all about the Venture..like I said, I have been here for years. I have even rode some other members bikes....but there are no deals on Ventures around here.Im looking at a wing. Something? Anything?

I believe the 94 is a 1500cc motor. I have freiends with that generation wing that go coast to coast with very little problems. Like with every bike, maintenance is the key. A bike in good repair will yield years of good service.

Yeah Tate. 1500 Is good bike, I have Guy from my cruisers group who is finally switch from 94 1500 GW And 120000 mils behind, to New 1800 one. He cant stop *****ing new one and cry for old 94. He said seating position and comfort are on Hi side with 1500. But he like extra juice of 1800. So if is steal go get your baby.

Good Luck, And say Hi to Moma.

I don't have anything negative to say and I hope you love it. As for problems, I know that some of the earlier wings had some stator problems that required that the engine be pulled to replace it. I THINK is was the 1200 models but maybe somebody else here can say for sure.

The stator issue was with the 1200's. Those would be from 1984 - 1987.

In my opinion - The 1500 Wing is a great bike for long distance cruising. Not as much fun around town though due to slow speed handling issues. I have owned 3 goldwing 1500's. They are reliable and solidly built. They will run for 100's of 1000's of miles with proper maintenance.

If you like the looks and the price is right then take the leap and RIDE IT!

First hand experience here....check my profile. I ride a 1994 GW, it has 98,700 miles on it. Still purrs like a kitten, runs strong. These bikes don't have a stator, but a true automotive alternator. It can be removed in 10 minutes flat. If you replace the brushes in the alt about every 60,000 miles, and do your other maintenance as specified you'll get really good service out of this bike.

People talk about low speed handling issues. Well, I can speak from experience here also, at least when compared to the 2nd Gen Venture. I owned a 1999 RSV, and it handled no better than the Wing at low speeds. Both are big, heavy bikes and meant for long runs. In my opinion, the Wing handles the twisties much better than the RSV. But, that isn't really what either bike is made for. If you're looking for a twisties bike, get a Concours or FJR.

For me, the RSV gives better comfort for the rider. My wife likes the rear seat of the Wing better though. That said, with a couple of accessories the GW's comfort for the rider can be quiet good. A backrest, a sheepskin, and some good highway pegs make it a very comfy bike.

Hey, if you can get a good deal on one, snag it.

yep i had a 84 1200 wing and the stator went south on it. the dealer had to pull the motor to replace it. bike was down for over a week, the bill was over $700.00. the new stator was warrented for as long as i owned the bike. honda addressed this (stator )

issue with the 1500. take off a few screws and remove the stator yourself. i'll never own a 1200 model again.

just my 2$

The 1500 wing is a great bike but a big bike. I just sold my 2000 1500 SE model, SE's are top of the line, all bells & whistles. I rode an 88 Venture for 4 yrs. before buying the wing, only kept it 7 months. I just couldn't get used to the opposed 6 engine design (width) and the bulk of the bike. The engine & fairing are wide, to get your feet out on the highway pegs you have to ride spreadeagle down the rode, I got a 34" inseam. The wing is a very smoth bike maybe to smooth, it was boring to me, like driving a car. I had the pleasure of pulling the top shelter to change the air & fuel filter, what a pain, not an easy bike to work on.

If you can get the bike at a good price buy it and try it, used wings cost more than ventures, they hold their resale. Stator problems were in the 1200's, 97-2000's had some alternator issues. I think the timing belts should changed 50-75k miles. You should be fine with an early 90's, my friend had a 93SE. Here's a pic of my old 88 Venture beside a 93 Wing, see the size difference. Thats a big ole fairing to hide behind on the wing.

I agree with these guys. If you can get it at a good price and the condition/miles are good, go for it! Ive got a '90 'Wing and it is one heck of a machine. She loves cruisin' at interstate speeds! The only thing I don't like particularly is the peg position (I've got some new boards coming to cure that). There's still a good number of accessories and add-ons available as well as replacement and used parts, should you choose to doll it up more. Good luck, whatever your choice!

Can't stand it...had to show my favorite toys. (I need to update the rear view pic. of the Wing..I changed mufflers & deleted the lower valence panel--much cleaner look)

I haven't heard any big negatives on the wings either. I do know that denden had one right about the year your talking about, might want to PM him and pick his brain. If the price is right...do it

:thumbsup2:
