Hi all,

My wife and I are heading to the Poconos Mountains at the end of the month. We will be in Shawnee on Delaware for a week and I am wondering if anyone knows anythuing about the area fior things to see/do while we're there.

We won't be riding the bikes out since my wife doesn't enjoy "long rides" anymore. Besides, riding together in the car gives us some time to enjoy each others company and talk. I considered trailering her Vulcan out, but figure it's not worth the hassle. There is a Harley dealer about an hour away that rents bikes, so we may do that for a day or two once we get there, but that all depends.

I'm mainly just looking for options of what to see or do since this is our first trip up this way. We traded our Virginia Beach timeshere for a mountain retreat this year and are looking forward to it. She has asked about running into New York City for a day. Is there somewhere in between to catch a train or something into the city/

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks, and ride safe.

Gary - Northeast Penn is a beautiful area. I haven't spent too much time there but I drive through there often. There is Steamtown in Wilkes-Barre if old trains is an interest. There are a lot of areas to hike and fish. Not much help I know. But - one thing I do have some knowledge on is NYC. I would recommend parking your car at a New Jersey Transit station and taking the train in. Get subway passes for the day and see the city. Go to Central Park and Ground Zero. Take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Empire State building, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are all well worth the time, in my opinion. You can get the train in Port Jervis which isn't too far depending on exactly where you are staying. But do take the train in - it will save on the headaches and expenses of having a car in Manhattan. Google NYC transit or NJ transit and there are several sites with train info such as http://www.mta.info/mnr/html/mnrmap.htm

There is regular bus service to NYC from Delaware Water Gap. That is only 5 or 10 minutes from Shawnee on the Delaware. If you like casinos, Mt. Airy is about 15 minutes from where you're staying.

Gary - I got home from work and had to ask my wife for more help. She grew up near there. She says...Gotta go to Bushkill Falls! She'll see what else she can come up with but that is her number one (unless you want to visit her mother in Wind Gap).

Tell your mom I'm on the way! That should really get her going. LOL

I appreciate the help making this trip something special for my wife. I looked up the info for Bushkill Falls and that definitely will be on the list of things to do. It looks neat just by the pics I have seen.

If you come up with anything else I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks and ride safe.

John,

Is it about an hour and a half ride into NYC do you think?

I was close to Trenton for the last couple of weeks. Did a beautiful ride going out of Trenton north along the Delaware up to New York state. Bounced back and forth across the river because 32 on the PA side has construction in certain areas. Well worth spending a day on the route.

Yes NYC is about an hour and a half away. I'm right in Stroudsburg and my number's in the member directory, if I can be of any help.
