Guest ReinyRooster Posted September 1, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 1, 2008 Was out for a ride with a friend today and noticed that almost every time I pushed the PTT button, the headlight warning light came out on the console. It only happened when it pushed the PTT button - never any other time. Any ideas what would cause that and where to look?
Marcarl Posted September 1, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 1, 2008 The PTT switch closes the ground to make a complete circuit to open the mic. Look to see where the ground is and you might find that it is grounded at the same place as the circuit for the warning light. Clean a tighten that grounding point and Bob's your uncle. Guest ReinyRooster Posted September 1, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 1, 2008 My uncle's name is Andy......bwahahahaha!! The problem here Carl is that you're talking electrical, which to me may as well me Martian! Talk slowly and clearly in easy to follow step by step instructions. Where would one look to find the ground for the PTT button?
AZSpyder Posted September 1, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 1, 2008 The PTT ground is a good idea. Could be finding the ground path through the headlight warning lamp. The ground of the radio transmitter may also be worth looking at. Another possibility is the antenna or cable. I don't know how the VR equipment locations are but is the antenna cable is routed next to a sensitive circuit it could cross talk into the adjacent wire. A poor ground for the antenna can also create lots of interference with other circuits. Jerry

Marcarl Posted September 2, 2008 Share #6 Posted September 2, 2008 The first ground I would look at is a bugger to get at, it's under the left hand faring, bolted right into the upper frame member on the outside right under the inner faring. Dano Posted September 2, 2008 Share #7 Posted September 2, 2008 Does that tie into the harness like the mute/channel search on the radio? Might be able to access it by taking out the radio, amp and bucket to see in there. I gotta do the same thing cause I've lost my search button on the remote.....
