halfwitt Posted August 31, 2008 #1 Posted August 31, 2008 So, I'm in my cage behind two crotch rockets, I see one guy doesn't have a helmet on. We've had the discussion - don't need to go there. I think it's silly but that's me. BUT - the guy also has sneakers on...I've been guilty a few times myself...BUT - he has shorts on...don't think I've ever done that. But by itself - not a capital offense...BUT he has no shirt on - I've NEVER done that. Looks like it could be painful...AND, as I sit behind him at the light, his rear tire is down to the steel belt - the ENTIRE circumference of the wheel. Is this a disaster waiting to happen or WHAT? I don't get it.
mini-muffin Posted August 31, 2008 #2 Posted August 31, 2008 Yep common sense is dead. That guy might be too if his tire was that bad and he had no protective gear on. Guess it's one way to thin out the gene pool. Margaret
mbrood Posted August 31, 2008 #3 Posted August 31, 2008 Young kids are faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a steaming locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. And they just WOULDN'T fall down and get hurt... they're impervious! We should hope that his one or two "lessons" are at low speed and on smooth grass... we ALL felt that way at times... as kids. Then fell down. But yeah, on a crotch rocket on city streets... that's over-confidence times 10.
Owen Posted August 31, 2008 #4 Posted August 31, 2008 I remember vividly, the day my common sense returned to me. I was 24. I realized my dad was not the dumbest sob in the world. He was right. He was always right. Hopefully my 20 year old will live to experience that day for himself.
Guest weirdbeard Posted August 31, 2008 #5 Posted August 31, 2008 I don't know maybe I am wrong but if he had been wearing old worn out jeans and a cotton tee you might not have thought so much about it, But really what kind of protection is that? That shirt is not really going to hold up that good sliding on the pavement... When I ride I wear jeans. I don't feel "protected" in shorts. I ride with a cotton tee in the summer. (It is hot around here!) I would not feel "protected" without a shirt. Besides making me feel "protected", Is this clothing that much better than riding in the nude?
mraf Posted August 31, 2008 #6 Posted August 31, 2008 It died with good manners, respecting your elders and not speaking until your spoken to. When he falls I just hope I'm nowhere around. Hate to see that much blood. He'll be telling himself "I must have been having a :sign brain fart:".

tooldood Posted September 1, 2008 #10 Posted September 1, 2008 Three yards of black fabric enshroud my computer terminal. I am mourning the passing of an old friend by the name of Common Sense. His obituary reads as follows: Common Sense, aka C.S., lived a long life, but died from heart failure at the brink of the millennium. No one really knows how old he was, his birth records were long ago entangled in miles and miles of bureaucratic red tape. Known affectionately to close friends as Horse Sense and Sound Thinking, he selflessly devoted himself to a life of service in homes, schools, hospitals and offices, helping folks get jobs done without a lot of fanfare, whooping and hollering. Rules and regulations and petty, frivolous lawsuits held no power over C.S. A most reliable sage, he was credited with cultivating the ability to know when to come in out of the rain, the discovery that the early bird gets the worm and how to take the bitter with the sweet. C.S. also developed sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn), reliable parenting strategies (the adult is in charge, not the kid) and prudent dietary plans (offset eggs and bacon with a little fiber and orange juice). A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, the Technological Revolution and the Smoking Crusades, C.S. survived sundry cultural and educational trends including disco, the men's movement, body piercing, whole language and new math. C.S.'s health began declining in the late 1960s when he became infected with the If-It-Feels-Good, Do-It virus. In the following decades his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of overbearing federal and state rules and regulations and an oppressive tax code. C.S. was sapped of strength and the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, criminals received better treatment than victims and judges stuck their noses in everything from Boy Scouts to professional baseball and golf. His deterioration accelerated as schools implemented zero-tolerance policies. Reports of 6-year-old boys charged with sexual harassment for kissing classmates, a teen suspended for taking a swig of Scope mouthwash after lunch, girls suspended for possessing Midol and an honor student expelled for having a table knife in her school lunch were more than his heart could endure. As the end neared, doctors say C.S. drifted in and out of logic but was kept informed of developments regarding regulations on low-flow toilets and mandatory air bags. Finally, upon hearing about a government plan to ban inhalers from 14 million asthmatics due to a trace of a pollutant that may be harmful to the environment, C.S. breathed his last. Services will be at Whispering Pines Cemetery. C.S. was preceded in death by his wife, Discretion; one daughter, Responsibility; and one son, Reason. He is survived by two step-brothers, Half-Wit and Dim-Wit. Memorial Contributions may be sent to the Institute for Rational Thought. Farewell, Common Sense. May you rest in peace.
bongobobny Posted September 1, 2008 #11 Posted September 1, 2008 At work we have a standing rule not to use the words "sense" and "common" together in a sentence. For quite some time now we have observed that sense ain't common...

muffinman Posted September 1, 2008 #13 Posted September 1, 2008 I have known for a Long time that Common sense was dead Just ask Mini she often tells me I was born 50 years to late because I think that a person should be held responsible for their actions or lack thereof. That being said if the CR riders hurt themselves I think they get what they deserve for riding unprotected and like fools. On the same token if I get hurt riding the way I do and it is my fault I will not complain I know I ride hard alot of times but I always stay in my comfort zone. Jeff
Pilot Posted September 1, 2008 #14 Posted September 1, 2008 I saw a kid on a crotch rocket once who had shorts and sandels on and nothing else, doing about 70 on the highway. And that was not the best part of the sighting, his passenger had a bikini on and no sandels.... I might add a very skimpy bikini. I followed them for about 14 miles just to make sure they made it OK....
halfwitt Posted September 1, 2008 Author #15 Posted September 1, 2008 his passenger had a bikini on and no sandels.... I might add a very skimpy bikini. I followed them for about 14 miles just to make sure they made it OK.... Now that is a good responsible person!
Yammer Dan Posted September 1, 2008 #16 Posted September 1, 2008 Now that is a good responsible person! Now Thats Common Sense!!!
