I am a new 1st gen owner (1990). Love the bike, but have been shopping for some accesories on ebay. what is the best way for me to tell if parts from other 1st gen years, will fit my bike. Am looking specifically at drivers back rests. thanks to all for input! any one do bikers for babies in STL, MO? thinking of doing it this year.

All Venture parts from 86 to 93 will fit a 90. Some(but not all)83 to 85 parts will also fit Now about the back rest; they make a really good one for the 1st Gens at Utopia http://www.utpr.com/venture.html . When you get to the page, go to the bottom to "specifications" button and click it. They have some real nice close up photos of the back rest:thumbsup2: (No I don't own stock, darnit)

When looking for a drivers backrest, you need to find one for a 86-93 Venture as the 83-85 are different and mount differently.

Also be prepared to pay some $$$ for one as they seem to go high, but they are worth it on a long trip.

thanks guys for the info. the item in question on ebay is 130250404665. this is not the first time i have seen it listed, and the seller is clueless when i ask questions. can any one tell just from looking at the mount set up it it would work? thanks again

The add says it is for a 1200 which would be 83 - 85 and would NOT fit your bike. Looks to be new and still shrink wrapped.

The back rest is a VentureLIne for an 86-93, and is incomplete. It's missing the uprights. I wrote and told the guy this, but he responded that it is complete. Clueless is right. It's a bicycle shop in Billings Mt. That back rest from Utopia looks like it might be a winer. I actually like it better that the VentureLine...

I've got a driver back rest that fits the 86-93. Not sure the brand, but it is black.

 

I don't use it and will be pulling the mounting hardware this winter when I disassemble for body work and paint. If you don't find one by Jan. shoot me a PM. I'll probably have it available then.

Condor, i was looking at that one, but thought it would only fit a second gen? thanks MiCarl, i might take you up on that! I am tearing mine down tomorrow to put new valve cover gaskets on. have some oil on the outside, not where i want it! thanks to all for the replys, this site rocks! Go MIZZOU

I may be wrong, but I don't think they made Venture Line stuff for 2ndGens. I think it was more along the line of Star Accessories. If you look at those side brackets they have the 3 odd shaped adjustment holes that allow for forward/aft positioning of the side posts. The posts... kinda a wishbone affair.. are missing. The set would make a nice up grade refresher for one of the Venture Line back rests, but not at $150 bucks....
