MasterGuns Posted August 27, 2008 #1 Posted August 27, 2008 OMG! What a difference. I use to have a slow starter once the bike was hot. Comtemplated replacing the starter or at least removing it and cleaning it out like is recommended somewhere on this site. But I thought I'd try the battery cable upgrade first. Wow! What a difference. No matter how hot things get, even on the hottest days around here in Texas, starts right up like it is the first start that morning. I am really impressed. If all you 1st gen owners haven't upgraded to the larger battery cables, I highly recommend you get after it right away. I at first thought it would be a difficult task but the entire procedure only took less than two hours and a little bit of vaseline. AND, I didn't have to mess around with pulling that extremely difficult starter.
GigaWhiskey Posted August 27, 2008 #2 Posted August 27, 2008 Makes an even bigger difference with an Odyssey PC680. I did the PC680MJ for the metal jacket cause it gets so darn hot out here.

GigaWhiskey Posted August 27, 2008 #4 Posted August 27, 2008 http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc680series.htm It has a lot of juice, maintenance free and lasts a very very long time. Mine sits for a long time between rides, never needed a charge.
Snaggletooth Posted August 27, 2008 #5 Posted August 27, 2008 Did the cables on mine in the spring along with pulling the starter to clean it, which it needed, and install new brushes. What a difference! No drag at all anymore. Just cranks clean and hard no matter how hot the bike gets. Worth the effort.
KingSizer Posted August 27, 2008 #6 Posted August 27, 2008 What do ya charge for the installation? I bought the cables off Squidley two years ago at maintenance day and haven't put them on mine yet. Afraid I'll get it torn apart and won't be able to ride...
