Well Ive read MANY threads about peoples concerns taking their RSV to the Mountains. Last year we went as high as 12600 feet iAt Ft Collins,Co, a pop or two was all that I noticed. This week Debby and I are in Ouray,Colorado and have been to 12220 feet and NO pop at all. My friends cant believe a carbureted bike can take these altitudes like mine is doing. Alot of HD riders up here but everyone has been very friendly. We took a day trip to Arches Natl Park yesterday,420 round trip, and it was beautiful but HOT! The big arch that was most recognizable fell 2 weeks ago so no pics of it!.Will post more pics when i get bored. Tom

In 2000 I took my 99 over Independence Pass, pulling a pretty loaded trailer. I did notice a little loss of power at altitude but overall the bike ran great. Saved a lot of gas going DOWN into Aspen....just coasted.

I've been reading a lot of Ride Reports on the ADVRider site and everyone has that same third picture. I've got to get out there and take one for myself. Thanks for posting....great pictures.

Pike's Peak, Mount Evans, and Trail Ridge Road during the Ft. Collins International Rally. Absolutely no problems. Less power than at 600 ft, but that's it.

Here's a story I've been itching to tell:

When we got to the top of Mt. Evans there were two BMW Adventure touring guys up there. Apparantly one had something rare, though I don't know enough about 'em to appreciate it. Both were fuel injected.

When we got to the top I pulled into a spot and let it idle while we got off the bike. They made a bee line over to ask me if I'd gotten my bike remapped before I came up the mountain. I told 'em I had carbs. It really took 'em back. Seems they couldn't let go of the throttle without the things dieing. Their fuel injection just wouldn't idle at that elevation. They were all cranked up about needing a remap and the expense and availability and the like.

The Venture did fine. Irene got altitude sickness so we had to come back down right away. We weren't at the top much more than a half hour. I thumbed the starter. Let it idle a moment. Waved at 'em. Then headed down.

Mine did just fine all the way to the tops of the highest roads in the Rockies.

I've been here several times myself without my 99 RSV having any problems. Great ride to Silverton and Ouray, and also took time out to take the train from Durango to Silverton which also was a great ride. It feels like I'm in the Swiss Alps going through this part of the country. Another place to have VWV next year, but a good ride anytime.:Venture:
