jburrell Posted August 24, 2008 #1 Posted August 24, 2008 My wife of 39 years decided this week that it was time to go riding with me again and bought a helmet yesterday. Today I took her on a 3 hr ride out to the lake and twisties and stopped off to eat lunch. She says she enjoyed the ride and had a good time but was suprised how well the bike rode with us both. Personally I was not sure about this ride since I've only had the bike about a month and haven't ridden since 83. I was unsure how the bike would handle 2 up and if I was up to it considering all the chatter I have heard about this bike being "top heavy". To me other than the stop lights I think the bike handled better with my wife on it. Curves and slow turns were no problem 2 up. I believe I now have that back seat filled which is why I chose the RSV in the first place. WE are taking a trip next weekend and I am taking the bike so we can ride in the area. MY wife has already agreed to take a trip to Bandera TX from Houston (about 300 miles) for a weekend trip. Bandera is in the Texas Hill country and has a lot of twisties and great riding as well as an area called Lost Maples which is real nice in the fall. If your a newbie and considering a bike to do 2 up you cant miss with this bike. have a great day all jb :2cents::2cents:
wkboard Posted August 24, 2008 #2 Posted August 24, 2008 Congrats!!! That is fantastic, I also feel the RSV is even more stable than usual at highway speeds 2up. It is a great touring bike. Enjoy the ride, and be safe!
papa smurf Posted August 24, 2008 #3 Posted August 24, 2008 Awesome. When I first got my RSV, it definately was a bit intimidating to me. it did feel "top heavy", but I was a pretty new rider also. If you are a texan, you may want to check out this ride coming up September 20th. It's pretty unique. There are actually 5 different departure points and we are all meeting up in Nolanville Texas (Near Ft. Hood/Killeen). It's a fund raiser for a few different military support organizations. this is the 4th annual ride, and they keep getting bigger and better every year. check it out at http://www.motorcycle-run-for-the-troops.org. Everybody ride safe!
Sleeperhawk Posted August 24, 2008 #4 Posted August 24, 2008 I always thought the 2nd gen road better 2up. When I take it to work everyday, there is a definite lightness to the back and buffeting is a lot more noticeable when by myself.
cecdoo Posted August 25, 2008 #5 Posted August 25, 2008 Congrats, the best decision I made in the last 4 years was to buy a Venture for my wife and I to tour on, the second best was to join this site, the third was to get out and actually meet some of the members. Enjoy the ride. Craig
FutureVentures Posted August 25, 2008 #6 Posted August 25, 2008 Ok, my wife isn't a risk taker, apart from marrying me. So, I've got her on two other bikes previous to this one, for a few hours total. She's only been on the bike...........in the garage. I'm delighted to hear it's a bit easier 2 up, I hope she will be too. Hell, the back seat looks soooooooo comfy too. Any other advice/bits of wisdom out there from the "2 up" gals? On, how to get on and have fun?
Guest tx2sturgis Posted August 25, 2008 #7 Posted August 25, 2008 The Venture is made to run 2 up. Its what it was designed for, hence the strong rear brake, air shock, and passenger comfort, including PTT and headset hookup. Just add 20 or 30 pounds of air to the shock if your passenger is...uh...curvy...and if shes a lightweight, you probably wont need to add any air to the shock for short around town hops.
Sweetnothing Posted August 25, 2008 #8 Posted August 25, 2008 My suggestion is....if she is scared of it, go on a nice slow ride first with not too many turns and curves. Let her get used to it moving. And definately DO NOT TAKE HER ON ANY FREEWAY! A nice slow ride, stop for ice cream and give her a break. It won't be long before she will be asking you to take her for a ride.
