New Venoms going on this weekend

Finally got spare rims finished, got the new Venoms mounted (after half an hour of cursing and fighting the tire tools) and tonight swapped out the front rim.

All I can say is WOW, what a difference over the Dunlops. Since I had both tires on rims, I was able to compare them side by side. Even with the rotors on the new rims, the venom weighed at least 4lbs less than the dunlop.

On the bike it was even more of a difference, steering is light, bike flicks like my FJ1200. Very impressed.

Tomorrow it's going to be the rear if I can work up the enthusiasm to tear the whole rear of the bike apart.

Unfortunately I get to pull the front back off in a month. fork seals have had it. I just had to see how the new tires looked and handled. :D

Got the rear on yesterday and spent the day riding them to get them seated and surface scuffed up.

It's like a whole new bike now. I ran it up to Tahoe and around the mountain roads and with the suspension cranked up it does feel like it outhandles my FJ1200. It's so easy to throw around now.

After you get a few miles on them, give us a report as to how they feel at higher speeds, like 70mph and up. I hope you do not encounter what many of us have at 70 and up on a 1st gen.

BTW, the Elite III feels good so far to about 85mph that I put on the rear.

Ok, finally got up onto the new freeway today and ran it out.

I was up to as high as 100mph and nothing bad. I did notice that I need to take the front back off tonight though and rebalance the thing a bit more precisely as I have that usual up/down bouncing at 30mph from being out of balance.

I did notice though that the front felt a little more "twitchy" (part of which is the out of balance issue too). It's nothing new to me as an ex sportbike rider but I can see how it could be a little disturbing to someone who is used to a more cruiser/tourbike heavy steering feel.

I am running 40lbs in both tires, progressive springs preloaded pretty heavy in the front (and with about half the oil in the forks, bad bad Verm). The rears I have set at 65 on the controller with damping set at 4. I will have to lower things down a bit and try it again to see if there's any difference.
