Dark Wolf Posted August 22, 2008 #1 Posted August 22, 2008 I know this is a dumb question but here goes. I own an 83 VR, about to change the plugs and can't find what to set the gap to any help would be appericated. Also my headlight fuse blew and when I went to change it the holder was brittle and broke, I rigged it for now but need a replacement, probally the whole panel. Anybody got one or know where to find one. Thanks everyone.
Condor Posted August 22, 2008 #2 Posted August 22, 2008 I've never gapped the plugs as they're pre-gapped by the manufacturer. I guess it wouldn't hurt to check, but I just toss 'm in right out of the box. A couple of folks have replaced their fuse panels with aftermarkets, and moved them off the battery and onto the top of the air cleaner box. Squidley has done a few and would be the guy to contact for info on panel type etc...
fixit3546 Posted August 22, 2008 #3 Posted August 22, 2008 Gap to .35 And always check them, they are almost never right.
Ferrantelli Posted August 22, 2008 #4 Posted August 22, 2008 New fuse panel anyone? http://www.bestrestproducts.com/celestia/products/electrical/
rek58 Posted August 27, 2008 #5 Posted August 27, 2008 I gap at .034 and always check the plugs, never found a plug to be the same out of the box. Granted they may only be .001-.002 off one way or the other on average, and maybe it's not that big a deal, but at least I know I'm starting off the same in all cylinders. Besides why take the chance of getting that one plug the guy dropped Friday afternoon just before he punched out and it's "pre-gapped" at .000.
