FuzzyRSTD Posted August 21, 2008 #1 Posted August 21, 2008 (edited) Sorry, just noticed that I posted in wrong forum. I have an oil leak that shows up on the left side of engine (sitting on bike). The oil is coming from just behind that chrome bolt and large washer that kinda protrudes out from front middle, left side of engine. The mechanics say it is the O-ring seal that is between starter and engine ? It was replaced, and I checked, it was leaking before I got home from dealer(160 mile round trip). I first thought it was just some oil residue from the intial leaking. But it is not. Mechanic says can't get to it until next week. :bawling:I have been waiting on him now for 2 weeks. He says that the seal is really hard to get to, and was possible that it got pinched when replacement was done. 1..What do you all think it is? 2..Has anyone else had this problem? 3.. Any suggestions? Problem solved. Head gasket leaking. Bolts noe prperly tourged from factory. 9/03/08 Edited September 3, 2008 by FuzzyRSTD update
GeorgeS Posted August 21, 2008 #2 Posted August 21, 2008 I would suspect the Gasket under the Large Case Cover. If the Starter O-Ring was replaced, I doubt, thats where its comeing from. I have replaced that Case Cover 4 times, I always use a new gasket, and Sealant. Three out of 4 times I had Oil Seepage. Frankly, I quite worrying about it!! Is it Dripping on the Garage Floor ??? If not, forget about it, and go rideing !!!! Life is to short to sweat the small stuff:scratchchin:

It runs as a drip from behind that bolt and out and down side of engine. Not only bad for engine if gets worse, but also can get to your pants leg. It will run about four to six drips out from there in about 40 mile or so. I can't figure why it all of sudden started this leak after about 1200 break in miles ? That is what kinda causes me to think maybe leaking from somewhere else, exspecially after the o-ring seal was replaced, case cover maybe or something? Thanks
Squeeze Posted August 23, 2008 #4 Posted August 23, 2008 Valve Cover Gasket would be my Suspicion. There no Way that Oil, coming out from the Stator/Casing Connection, would rise up to the Mount and start to see the Day Light there. The Boring in the Casing where the Starter engages to, is the the very least Corner where Oil will travel while riding. I think, even the O-Ring to seal this up is unnecessary.

Thanks Squeeze, it was the head gasket and improper tourge from factory.
