I was curious of others thoughts. I used to change tires on my old HD and never balanced them. Now that I am getting ready to changes the tires on my TD I question to balance or not to balance. I know there has to be a few of you hear with opinions or suggestions. As always thanks in advance for your input.

Balancing is pretty easy. Some tires are pretty close and others are not. You may get by without balancing them one time and not the next. It only takes a few minutes, I would go ahead and do it.

On this last E-3 I put on the rear of my bike before Asheville, I tried the axle between jackstands and thought I had done a pretty good job. After a few runs to about 80, I was feeling some bounce in the rear. So, I took the tire/wheel back off Tuesday night and took it by the shop I bought it from(I changed it). Without removing any weights, he put it on his machine and it come up 3/4 ounce out of balance. He removed all the weights and started again and balanced it. I put it back on last night and rode it to work today, but probably did not get over 45 to and from work thru town. I may make a better run in a few minutes as I am going for a ride.

So far with all the tires I have had on that rim, it almost always takes about the same weight in the same area. I suspect I have a wheel balance issue more than a tire balance issue.

The last set of tires I used were Avon Venoms when I changed them I used Dyna beads in them instead of static balance. The dealer I bought them from also rides bike and he swears by them. I have about 4k on the tires now no problems.

Is anyone else using these? I was wondering whether they actually work and if so, how DO they work??

I don't know about the beads but I would say balance the tire especially the front.

I axle balance the rear as Randy tried to do with a lot of success but I have the front spin balanced and even then every once in a while I will have a tire that has a little bounce at some lower speed.

My current front tire was machine balanced and it seems to have a little bounce(wobble?) in left hand sweepers, not dangerous but there.

Nice web site. I still don't understand how the beads migrate from the heavy side, but I guess it works or they wouldn't be selling any... :) My thought is that Ride-On also balances a tire, plus has the added benifit of keeping punchers sealed, and since the Dyna-beads are not fixed, and need to balance the tire each time it begins to rotated, that if we ever had to add any type sealer post-leak those beads would start sticking where they're not supposed to be and instead of being able to continue riding the bike would start hopping all over the place???

I've used and am using the Dyna beads. 2 bikes and six tires. They have worked extremely well for me and I'm convinced they have increased the mileage I get out of my tires. :thumbsup2:
