hipshot Posted August 20, 2008 #1 Posted August 20, 2008 and other moving violations. i have been told, that if you get a ticket, for lets say $115.00. i'm told you can send in a check, for $118.00 or $120.00, to cover the ticket. the clerk then sends you a check for the amount that was "over the fine". NOW i'm told that as long as you don't cash that refund check, the case remains open, and never goes against your record. case can't be closed until the "books balance". anyone ever heard of this? just jt:confused24::confused24:
rod Posted August 20, 2008 #2 Posted August 20, 2008 I have heard this too. I have no idea if it is valid but I asked a CHP friend and got the "no comment" answer. Rod
halfwitt Posted August 20, 2008 #3 Posted August 20, 2008 I love Snopes! Sorry Hipshot. http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/ticket.asp says Not True. I have become so skeptical about things I hear anymore I always go there to check things out.
Steve S Posted August 20, 2008 #4 Posted August 20, 2008 I am living proof that this will not work in KY . They will not take a check for the ticket. Only cash or a money order for the exact amount. :bang head:

BOO Posted August 20, 2008 #6 Posted August 20, 2008 My wife works for the local County Circuit Clerks office and she said they don't care if you ever cash the check. I didn't ask her but like most government checks it probably expires in 90 days or so anyway. The government is pretty stupid at times but the one thing they do well is collect money. Jerry
