Bill in NJ Posted August 20, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 20, 2008 I just got a 99 RSV coming from a Kawasaki voyager. really like the bike so far. Now to my ?? The bike has 4' K40s on the bike now. I want to know if I can just swap them out and put on the Firestik 3' fireflys and a 3' firestik amfm3 for the radio. The antennas are working fine only to tall for the garage so I wanted something shorter, plus I like the look of a shorter antenna. Can I just unscrew the K40s from the Valor fold overs and install the firestiks?

Freebird Posted August 20, 2008 Share #5 Posted August 20, 2008 OK....I'll do it better this time. Here it is in my usual long winded style. Here is some information on the Firestik: All "FL" antennas are 100% American made with 100% American materials. To maintain a balance between flexibility and ruggedness, we use a custom blended, glass fiber reinforced tube. Each is wound with double insulated copper wire to prevent the oxidation and shorted windings often found on non-Firestik antennas. The tunable tip mechanism is made from rust-proof brass and has a rubber o-ring to hold the adjuster in place after tuning. Our 3/8"-24 threaded base will fit all Firestik mounts and accessories. Each antenna is covered with a static reducing, water-tight sleeve containing UV and pigment stabilizers. For peek performance we recommend that you use one of our Fire-Flex or RoadPal coaxial cables with these antennas. Here are the specs on the K40: ...specifications..... Universal Mounting Application Tunable Design Top Loaded Coil Frequency Range 26-30MHz Designed for CB and 10 Meter Radios 1/4-Wave Length Design Fits all 3/8" x 24 Threaded Mounts Chrome Plated Whip Adapter Mil-Spec Polyolefin Sheath Can be Used as a Single Antenna or Co-Phased for Dual Antennas And the Valor mount: Antenna Fold-Over The advantage of the 203EZ may not be immediately apparent. It was designed to provide an easy solution for dealing with an antenna while not in use, rather than removing the antenna from the base as a quick disconnect would require, the 203EZ will simply fold the antenna down into an easily managed horizontal position. Please remember, the antenna is not to be used while folded down, always make sure to place your antenna in the vertical upright position before transmitting a signal. Technical Specs: * (F) 3/8x24" thread on top, (M) 3/8x24" thread on bottom * Chromed Brass Construction * Durable Construction allows for use with fiberglass antennas up to 5 feet

MasterGuns Posted August 21, 2008 Share #9 Posted August 21, 2008 I hope I am inserting my question in the right thread and will have someone reply with an answer. Who manufactures aftermarket antennas (one for the cb and the other for am/fm reception) that will just replace the two overly long stock antennas on my 88VR? I, too, have a severe problem rolling in or out of my garage because the antennas are way to high. Heck, I have even broke a couple flourescent bulbs in my overhead lighting. I could care less if they both must be completely removed or if they fold down like the stockers. If some knows what I can replace them both with that are much shorter, please advise. masterguns
Bill in NJ Posted August 29, 2008 Author Share #10 Posted August 29, 2008 Hi all. I just got the antenna's today and put them on. Look alot better to me and no more scraping the garage door when parking it. My next question is ... Do you need the heatset to adjust the CB? I do don't have one yet. Just not sure if I need one to set the antenna.
Freebird Posted August 29, 2008 Share #11 Posted August 29, 2008 No, you do not need the headset to adjust the SWR. Just the meter and then you'll use the press to talk button on the handlebars.
Bummer Posted August 29, 2008 Share #12 Posted August 29, 2008 Hi all. I just got the antenna's today and put them on. Look alot better to me and no more scraping the garage door when parking it. My next question is ... Do you need the heatset to adjust the CB? I do don't have one yet. Just not sure if I need one to set the antenna. It's better to do the SWR without the headset plugged in so you can't accidentally talk into the mic while pressing the button. It's just a little safer that way. It reduces the chances of letting the magic blue smoke out of the CB.
Bill in NJ Posted August 30, 2008 Author Share #13 Posted August 30, 2008 Thanks guys. I do think the blue smoke could be pretty but not coming from my CB. Thanks again.
MongoE9 Posted March 15, 2011 Share #14 Posted March 15, 2011 If anyone has any old stock antennas and mounting hardware laying around I could sure use them. The guy I bought my 06 Venture from cut and hid them both under the trunk and used primarily an XM radio. I now want to use the radio and the CB properly but am having a hard time finding stock antennas or anything else without breaking the bank. THanks for any insight.
