Sleeperhawk and I will be westward bound to Arizona on September 27!!!:cool10::cool10:

I just cannot wait for this trip since we missed out on Fort Collins last year. Two weeks have been allocated for this trip!

We should reach Texas Saturday the 27th and leave out on the 30th to Carlsbad, New Mexico and then to the Tucson area. We will be heading out of Tucson on October 5. We plan to go to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon! I asked Sleeperhawk if we could possibly cross over into California and let me put my feet down on the state so I can color in that map too.:scratchchin: He said YES! (So I will have quite a few states to color in by the time we get back to South Carolina!):)

From there, the plan is to travel upwards towards Colorado and the lower part of Wyoming (have never been to Wyoming) and then swing down through Nebraska, Kansas, and towards home.

Since I am not familiar with a lot of the sights to be seen along those routes, I am asking our dear members to let me know what we should try to see.:confused24:

I know I will be taking a lot of pictures along the way and should break my record!:thumbsup2:

Any advice would be sooooo greatly appreicated!

Ride safe,

Bobbie

You may need to get a few more memory cards for the camera. I hope you guys have a wonderful time. Just remember to keep in touch or we'll worry about you two.

If you really meant it when you said September I would make sure you have some warm clothes. It can and does get cool at the higher elevations. You may even run into snow in the high mountain roads.

Yellowstone is a great park to ride through but you will need the whole day at least. We were there for 4 days and still didnt think we saw it all!

All in all though that sure sounds like a great trip!

Thanks, Margaret!!! I am so looking forward to this trip - I love that part of the country.

George is taking his laptop, so I will be able to download my memory cards directly onto his computer and free up my memory cards. Otherwise, I would need a trailer for just those! :whistling:

Since we will have the loptop, we will be able to post now and then!

Thank you for your concern!

I would love to see Yellowstone, but like you say, it will depend on the weather if we can get up that far north I am planning to pack cold weather gear as well as clothes for the warm weather still around that time of year! As a matter of fact, we went to the local leather shop yesterday and bought a warm hoodie for me!:thumbsup2:

I will post pictures when we get back!:whistling:

Bobbie,

When you get farther along with your plans let me know when you'll be up this way!

Ummm... Yellowstone. And Grand Teton National Park as well.

We took the family to Yellowstone in 2000, with minivan and pop-up camper. We arrived June 7 to snow at the park's west entrance, so definitely bring clothes for cold weather in October.

Get plenty of New Mexican food, too.

Our trip was three weeks and 5,600 miles, but we took a different route: SC to Cherokee, NC; Mammoth Cave, KY; Lewis & Clark State Park, Iowa; across South Dakota to Custer State Park (lots of wild life); Devil's Tower; Yellowstone; Grand Tetons; Dinosaur bone hunting in Utah; hiking in Colorado; New Mexican food in NM; then we ran headlong home to SC.

We sure will! Would love to meet you! :thumbsup:At this point, I am not quite sure how Sleeperhawk will travel through Colorado, but I have a feeling it will be right by you on the way to Cheyenne! So I'll let you know as soon as I can!

Sounds like you had a trip that we would love as well. Will defintely keep that route in mind for our next big trip out west!

George's brother lives in Oracle outside of Tucson and he is going to be celebrating his 50th birthday on October 4th, so we decided to incorporate a sightseeing trip as well. :thumbsup2:

We will be checking out the New Mexican food for sure, we will be going to Carlsbad Caverns as well!

Bobbie,

Out of Tucson, head north to I-10 and west to Quartzite, then north on US-95 to Parker Az. Cute old railroad town and alot of great food. Ride north towards Lake Havasu City. Just outside of Parker is the Blue Water Resort. An Indian Casino that's not too bad for an hour or two gambling. When you pull into Lake Havasu city, there is the London Bridge and the Channel. Lots on neat boats and good lodging in the area. If ya want to step foot in California. Head north to I-40 and west through Needles Cal. You can stop there and put yer foot down if ya want, but turn north on River Road and head to Laughlin. It's kinda like a small Las Vegas. From there head East over the mountain to Kingman and then north to Hoover Dam, through Boulder Nevada and over the pass to Vegas.

That sounds like a great route! :thumbsup2: I will print this off and keep it on the bike. We are very flexible with our plans and routes as long as weather permits us to be!

Is it September 27 yet???:cool10::cool10:

Congrats Mechanic. You will love the trip out west. The Warden and I just got back from out there and loved every minute of it.

If there is one thing I would suggest for you to do is to go to both the South Rim AND the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. They are both beautiful, but the view from the North Rim is much more Majestic. You can't do both in one day due to the distance, but it is well worth the time. And you can stop in Marble Canyon on the way to the North Rim. That in itself is worth the trip.

On the way from the South to the North rim, we spent the night in Page Az. It is a beautiful little town on Lake Powell, right by Glen Canyon dam

If I tried to tell you all the sights to see, you wouldn't have time to explore for yourself. Just be prepared to live in awe the whole time you are out there.:thumbsup2:

All I can say is I can't wait! I know we could spend a month in that area and not see all that there is! Thank you for the tips!

Bobbie ,

If ya take the Grand Canyon tour , your more than likely ride the Original 1st Gen . More power and a heck of a lot faster of what they call them 1st gens today ! :witch_brew:

Watch out for them tourist traps with the fake turquoise jewelry . Call me and I'll tell you how you can tell real from fake .

Just remember , Be Happy , Ride Happy ! Short amount of time and a lot to do and see .

Just make sure George drinks a lot of water and keeps cool as possible . Keep the cell phone charged and keep someone posted on your schedule for safety sake .

By the way , whom is going to take care of the dungeon while you two are gone ?
